
One of the key attractions during Asia's premier air show, Aero India-2019, would be the 'Drone Olympics,' wherein national and international players would demonstrate their potential.
The government of India is organising the Drone Olympics under which various drone competitions shall be held and winners will be honoured.

The Defence public relation officer tweeted that the event would be open to both Indian and international players and being the first of such kind global event on drones, it will be a great opportunity for global and Indian drone manufacturers to showcase their Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

The five-day event starting from February 20 would take place at the Yelahanka Air Force Station.
The drones will be assessed on the basis of their surveillance capability, flight time, live transmission resolution, detection of targets, weight drop challenge, formation flying capability and other criteria.

The competition would be held in three categories, which include surveillance challenge to determine the surveillance capacities of UAV, supply drop challenge to assess the weight dropping capacity of the UAVs and the formation flying challenge to demonstrate different shapes with group of UAVs.
"It will not only encourage the UAV manufacturing in the country but also provide an opportunity to the Armed Forces to assess the capabilities that exist in the world," said India's defence ministry in a statement.

The PRO said it has received 121 applications for the event of which 57 have qualified for the prelims to be held on February 18 and 19.
The final round would take place on February 21 from 10 am.
The winners would get a total cash prize worth Rs 38 lakh, the official said.
"The UAV market is one of the fastest growing fields in the world. Role of UAVs in defence sector is ever-increasing on account of new additionalities being added to them making them fit for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic warfare and strike missions," the statement added.

The exhibition is themed as 'The Runway to a Billion Opportunities'.
