The year 2016 has nearly ended and the Indian automotive industry has seen close to 50 new launches and upgrades during the year, across the segment. Out of the all, some were mass segment cars and some were performance-oriented models.
Elantra's facelift was long overdue, but Elantra's new model scores over the earlier facelift of its peers in designing, technology specs and comfort. With Elantra Hyundai is being bold in a market which has long stopped being buyers' favourite. Still, with attractive unique design and all-aggressive looks, a City bound customer won't mind spending 4-5 lakh extra for Elantra.
With one major stroke of all-around uplift, Toyota Innova has leapfrogged from a value-for-money MPV, to the one if the most sought after in design, features, power and comfort. After personifying comfort for Indian customers at its launch more than a decade back, the new Innova Crysta is now the most attractively designed MPV that even gives the best designed SUV makers a run for their money.
Pushing the envelope further, that would have surely been the brief given to Fortuner's designers. Improving the bad is easy, but improving the perfect is very difficult. With the launch of new Fortuner Toyota has increased its appeal, converting gold into platinum.
None of the Jaguar cars has made so much news off-late as XE sedan and XE is important as it shows Jaguar's coming down one step of the ladder to appeal to premium car buyers. XE might come at lesser price than Jag's earlier sedans but it is in no way comprising on looks, quality and appeal
No carmaker thought about giving utility space---two extra seats--at the back--in their compact SUVs. Honda is first with that and it increased the appeal of Honda BR-V and there it stands out among its peers. With Duster fast loosing its shine and Ecosport also failing to attract many buyers without discounts, BR-V will attract customers for its utility, finish and looks. Only its resemblance to Mobilio is something customer would want to forget
The Ford Mustang right-hand drive was long due for India and the carmaker introduced the iconic muscle car in India at a starting price of Rs 65 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi this year. The Ford Mustang is sold through the CBU route and is the only muscle car available in the country.
Powering the Mustang is Ford's naturally aspirated 5.0 litre V8 petrol engine that generates 395 hp of power and 515 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. In order to enhance the driving experience, the four-seater muscle car is equipped with an advanced braking system that distributes brake force between front and rear wheels and prevents the wheels from locking.
After hitting the bottom, there is only one way, which is upwards. The earlier Endeavour's design was old and quite out of the trend. With the new Fortuner
Ford has tried to make a comeback in the premium SUV market with major design, tech and comfort changes. But its uncanny resemblance to the new Fortuner will give Ford sleepless nights.
One of the last launches of 2016 is one of the best ones too. Though Mini Clubman may not be every man's compact car, it is a dream of everyone who wants to own a compact style statement with comfort and luxury . Clubman will join the existing range of Mini cars in India including the Mini 3-door, Mini 5-door, Mini Convertible and the Mini Countryman. Like all Minis, the Clubman is a luxury hatchback which features circular headlamps with chrome surrounds, a hexagonal contoured radiator grille and wide lower air inlets. At the back, there are large tail-lamps which are unique to this model along with a split open tail-gate. Inside, the Mini Clubman is all luxury with its leather wrapped upholstery and high-end materials.
Tiago could finally be a game changing product from Tata Motors stable. It will put an end to Tata Motors earlier reputation of questionable reliability and build quality, Tata introduced the Tiago, an entry-level hatchback which was priced aggressively. With a starting price of Rs 3.95 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi, the Tiago garnered interest quickly and is presently driving the sales growth of the company.
