Officials reported that at least 18 evacuation orders were in effect in western Sydney, a region that was devastated by heavy flooding in March this year and that roads throughout the city were shut off.
In last 24 hours, emergency personnel responded to more than 1,400 calls and performed 29 flood rescues, as per the official.
Twenty people lost their lives in the east coast flooding incident in March, which was brought on by powerful storms that wreaked havoc in Sydney’s west.
Local stores and a gas station were submerged by floodwaters whereas Camden, a suburb of Sydney in the southwest with a population oof nearly 100,000 people.
The emergency service minster Stephanie Cooke that the situation was “a life-threatening emergency.”
She further said that the situation with the floods was rapidly shifting and advised the residents to be prepared to evacuate on short notice.
In the light of the weather, the service minister urged residents along a 500-kilometer (310-mile) section of Australia’s coast to postpone their travel plans.
