At least nine persons died and at least 12 were injured in several districts of West Bengal due to incidents of a lightning strike and wall collapse because of heavy rainfall since Thursday evening, a state disaster management department official said.

While four persons were killed due to lightning strikes in Hooghly district, one from Birbhum district died the same way on Friday, he said.

One death each was reported from Purba Burdwan district's Katwa and Mangalkote because of wall collapse.

Lightning caused the deaths of one person each in Howrah and South 24 Parganas districts Friday, the official said.

"The injured are undergoing treatment at various hospitals," he said.

He said that our presence will grow in the region and will grow on the bed rock of peace.

He admitted that there has been a disruption in the global order. “Despite progress, we live in the age of uncertainty, clashing vision and competing models,” he said. He also said that internal disturbances are acquiring ethnic fault lines. “It is an interdependent world and nations need to rise above the divisions and work together,” he said.

“I see ASEAN as an inspiration,” he said. He said that ASEAN’s unity is essential for this region to prosper. He said that ASEAN unity must be supported. “ASEAN lies at the heart of the new Indo Pacific,” Modi said. He said that ASEAN is required for a stable world and this entity is not against anyone.

Modi also renewed his faith in multilateral order and safe oceans for everyone. He also rued growing protectionism in goods and services. He continued to focus on rule based systems to ensure international stability in trade and commerce. Modi said that India is prepared to work with anyone to promote peace and trade.

He added that the great power rivalry must be avoided. He said that Asian cooperation will define the new century. “Differences should not be allowed to turn into disputes,” said Modi.

The CPI General Secretary termed the win in Kerala a "very good positive" response from the people, who reposed their confidence in the Left government.

"The victory margin (20,956 votes) is fantastic," Mr Reddy said.

The ruling CPI(M)-led LDF's Saji Cheriyan won the Chengannur seat, polling 67,303 votes. The Congress-led UDF candidate D Vijaykumar got 46,347 votes and BJP's P S Sreedharan Pillai came third with 35,270 votes.

"That's true," he said on perception that the BJP is gaining ground in West Bengal at the cost of the Left. "We need to do deeper introspection on this issue (in West Bengal)."

Like in some of the recent elections in West Bengal, the BJP pushed the CPI(M) to third spot in Maheshtala assembly bypoll, where the TMC emerged victorious.

Indian-origin businessman buys Seychelles island

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore on Friday, where he said "solutions cannot be found behind walls of protection, but in embracing change".&nbsp;

Modi added that India stands for an open and stable international trade regime. "What we seek is a level playing field for all," he said. &nbsp;

Modi said that "this is a world of inter-dependent fortunes and failures. No nation can shape and secure it on its own. It is a world that summons us to rise above divisions and competition to work together."&nbsp;

He then asked if that was possible, replying in the affirmative. "Yes it is possible. I see ASEAN as an example and inspiration."&nbsp;

"India stands for a free, open, inclusive Indo-Pacific region, which embraces us all in a common pursuit of progress and prosperity. It includes all nations in this geography as also others beyond who have a stake in it," said Modi.&nbsp;

"India-China cooperation is expanding. Trade is growing. And, we have displayed maturity and wisdom in managing issues and ensuring a peaceful border. There is growing intersection in our international presence," Modi added.&nbsp;

"The Indian Ocean has shaped much of India's history. It now holds the key to our future. The ocean carries 90% of India's trade and our energy sources. It is also the lifeline of global commerce," said Modi.&nbsp;

Two security personnel and one civilian were injured in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Friday after terrorists hurled a grenade at police party.

Earlier in the day, the terrorists had also targetted the&nbsp;house of PDP MLA Mushtaq Shah in Tral area of Pulwama district.

However, no loss of life was reported in the incident as the bomb had exploded in the lawn.

A security official&nbsp;had said earlier&nbsp;that twelve terrorists of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed managed to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

The terrorists have reportedly split into groups and, according to the security forces, could be planning large-scale terror strikes.

India's diesel-electric submarine Sindhukesari is all set to be out form the workshop of the Zvyozdochka Shipyard in Severodvinsk, Russia.

A media report quoted a defence source saying that the submarine will be floated out in several days.

The submarine which had been under repairs with Russia was built at the Leningrad Admiralty Association (currently, the Admiralty Shipyard).&nbsp;

It was equipped by the Indian Navy in 1989.

Before this repair, the submarine&nbsp;was laid down at the Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod in 1985 and it was taken by the Indian Navy in 1987.

The marine was delivered to Zvyozdochka Shipyard in Severodvinsk for the second medium repiar in 2017.

The term of this repair was 27 months. A report said that the service life of the sub marine after this upgradation will extend by 10 to 35 years.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned P Chidambaram to appear on June 6 in connection with INX Media case, reported&nbsp;news agency ANI.&nbsp;

Former union minister secured an interim protection from arrest till July 3 only yesterday from the Delhi High Court in the same case lodged by the CBI.&nbsp;

Justice A K Pathak asked Chidambaram to join questioning and cooperate in the investigation as and when called by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).&nbsp;

The court also issued a notice to the CBI and sought its response on the senior Congress leader's anticipatory bail plea and listed the matter for further hearing on July 3, directing that the agency will not arrest him till then.&nbsp;

Chidambaram's role has come under the scanner of investigating agencies in the Aircel-Maxis deal of Rs 3,500 crore and INX Media case involving Rs 305 crore. It was during his tenure as finance minister in the UPA-1 regime that FIPB clearance was granted to the two ventures in which alleged irregularities have been found.&nbsp;

In the INX Media case, the CBI had registered an FIR on May 15 last year against alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was finance minister.&nbsp;

Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram was also arrested in the matter on February 28 for allegedly receiving funds to the tune of Rs 10 lakh in the case. He was granted bail on March 23.&nbsp;

The other accused in the case include then INX Media Director Indrani Mukerjea and then INX News Director Peter Mukerjea.&nbsp;

The Agra unit chief of ex-VHP president Pravin Togadia’s new organisation Hindu Hi Aage has declared a Rs&nbsp;2 lakh reward for anybody who slaps Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

Govind Parashar has accused Salman of hurting Hindu sentiments by naming a movie, Loveratri that sounds like a Hindu festival Navratri and also deliberately scheduling it for a release during the festival.&nbsp;

Taking the law into their hands, Parashar and other Hindu Hi Aage activists burnt posters of Salman Khan’s movies. They also raised slogans against the actor and the movie Loveratri. Loveratri is scheduled to be released in October and features his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma.

Parashar said, “The movie is being produced by Salman Khan by distorting ‘Navratri’ – a religious occasion with which sentiments of lakhs of Hindus are attached. We condemn such intention of Salman Khan and seek a ban on the movie. If it is permitted to be screened, we would oppose it tooth and nail.”&nbsp;

He warned, “We won’t tolerate hurting of Hindu sentiments and as city unit president of Hindu Hi Aage I have declared a reward of Rs two lakh for anyone thrashing cine actor Salman Khan in public.”

Promising to review the ruling BJP's defeat in Kairana Lok Sabha bypoll, Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey said today that the "politics of fatwa" devoid of any principles has temporarily overpowered the politics of development.

Pandey said the BJP will review its performance in the Kairana bypoll to ascertain "what went wrong" for the party.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was defeated in the bypoll by the Rashtriya Lok Dal.

The RLD was supported by the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Congress.

"Politics of fatwa, casteism and politics devoid of any principles temporarily overpowered politics of development," Pandey said in a statement issued in Lucknow.

He said the defeat in the Noorpur Assembly bypoll will also be reviewed and a strategy will be formed accordingly.

"The BJP indulges in positive politics pertaining to development and farmer welfare, while the opposition resorts to politics of falsehood and negativity. Lies and politics of fatwa will not last long. And in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, people of the country will re-elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Pandey said.

Comedian Bharti Singh revealed some shocking truths about her personal life in a chat show recently including her mother wanted to abort her due to poor financial condition. Speaking at a chat show called “JuzzBaatt...Sangeen Se Namkeen Tak”, Bharti said, “My mother wanted to abort me due to our financial condition, but she later decided against it. Today she is very proud of me.” She continued, “I remember this one time, just before my performance, my mother was admitted to the ICU and I wasn’t keen on doing the show. But she motivated me to go for it.” The host Rajeev Khandelwal of the chat show makes his comeback on TV with this after a long time. He also hosted another show “Sach Kaa Saamnaa”.

Sharing "specific information" with the&nbspincome tax&nbspdepartment about any Benami transaction or property could earn you up to Rs one crore, while the same for undisclosed black money stashed abroad could fetch up to Rs 5 crore.

Besides, the 'Income Tax Informants Reward Scheme' has also been amended under which a person can get reward up to Rs 50 lakh for giving specific information about substantial evasion of tax on income or assets in India, which are actionable under the Income-tax Act, 1961.

The&nbspCBDT&nbsptoday announced Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018, under which any person, including foreigners, can inform Joint or Additional Commissioners about benami transactions and properties which can be tried under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016.

This reward scheme is aimed at encouraging people to give information about benami transactions and properties as well as income earned on such properties by such hidden investors and beneficial owners, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.

"Under the Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018, a person can get reward up to Rs one crore for giving specific information in prescribed manner to the Joint or Additional Commissioners of Benami Prohibition Units (BPUs) in Investigation Directorates of Income Tax Department about benami transactions and properties as well as proceeds from such properties which are actionable under Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988, as amended by Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016," it said.

The tax department also assured full confidentiality of the informer for all the reward schemes saying that the identity of the persons giving information will not be disclosed.

With regard to information shared with the I-T authorities about any undisclosed black money held overseas under the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) and Imposition of Tax Act, 2015, an informer could earn a reward up to Rs 5 crore.

The reward amount for information under the Foreign Black money Act has been kept high at Rs 5 crore to make it "attractive to potential sources" in foreign countries, the I-T department said.&nbsp
