<p>Later, the prime minister visited Singapore's oldest Hindu temple Sri Mariamman and participated in prayers.</p>

<p>"Reinforcing our strong cultural connect, PM @narendramodi visited the Mariamman Temple," Kumar said.</p>

<p>Built in 1827, the temple was constructed for worship by immigrants from the Nagapatnam and Cuddalore districts of South India. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mariamman, known for her power in curing epidemic illnesses and diseases. The temple is located in the heart of Chinatown.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He also visited Chulia mosque in Chinatown which was built by Chulia Muslim merchants from India's Coromandal Coast under the leadership of Anser Sahib. <p>ANI reported vendors at Delhi's Okhla mandi as saying prices had risen.</p>

<p>PTI added that the arrival of vegetables at various market committees and the collection of milk in Maharashtra's Nashik district had also been affected.</p>

<p>"All milk dairies in the (Nashik) district are closed and collection centres for milk has been affected. Agitating farmers poured milk on the roads at Visapur in Yeola taluka in the morning today. Arrival of vegetables at APMC is also low," PTI quoted Raju Desale, working president of the All India Kisan Sabha, as saying.</p>

<p>The farmers began their 10-day strike — called Gaon Bandh — on Friday, saying they would not transport their produce to the cities. The farmers have also threatened a Bharat Bandh on the last day of their strike, June 10.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The farmers are demanding a waiver of their loans, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report, and a minimum income guarantee scheme.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Farmers were seen in Punjab and Maharashtra dumping fruit, vegetables, and milk on the streets.&nbsp;</p>

<p>PTI reported that farmer organisations have called for a boycott of mandis&nbsp;in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mahrashtra, but that Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh convenor Shivkumar Sharma claimed in Bhopal that the farmer strike is being observed across 22 states.</p>

<p>A surge in oil prices over the past few months means India's retail inflation has remained above the RBI's target of 4 percent for six months, increasing pressure on the central bank to act sooner than previously expected.</p>

<p>"In efforts to contain inflation and maintain financial stability, it is likely that the RBI will raise interest rates over the summer," said Dodhia.</p>

<p>Friday's&nbsp;survey also showed foreign demand for manufactured goods rose at the strongest pace&nbsp;in three months, though the same cannot be inferred about domestic demand.</p>

<p>A sub-index tracking overall demand declined to 51.6 last month from 52.0 in April, suggesting domestic demand may still be recovering from the botched implementation of a new national tax system last year.</p>

<p>So overall output expanded at a slower pace, leading firms to hire only modestly, and optimism about future output declined after hitting a nine-month high in April.</p>

<p>India GDP grew at its fastest annual pace in nearly two years during the January-March quarter, expanding a better-than-expected 7.7 percent, and retaining its title as the fastest growing major economy by beating China's growth rate of 6.8 percent.</p>

<p>At least 11 people were killed and another injured when a jeep collided with a speeding truck at Kosdani Ghat on Yawatmal-Nanded road in Maharashtra in the wee hours on Friday.</p>

<p>The jeep, en route to Huzur Saheb Gurudwara at Nanded from Punjab, collided with the speeding truck, resulting in on the spot death of 11 people and injuries to another, police said.</p>

<p>The bodies were sent to Arni hospital for post-mortem. The rescue operation was underway, police added.</p>

<p>The festival has received a total of 3,080 movie entries so far, wherein 967 are from India, 249 from Iran, 243 from the United States, 123 from Spain, 118 from Brazil, 118 from France and 107 from Turkey.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Besides these countries, other participating countries include - Pakistan, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Poland, Malaysia and many more.</p>

<p>Scheduled to be inaugurated in New Delhi from&nbsp;June 29th, 2018, the festival invites film entries from filmmakers across several categories.&nbsp;</p>

<p>All the films in the competition sections would be previewed by the pre-selection panels comprising of filmmakers and film critics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's been a journey of almost 10 months for the team. It's getting launched on June 3 at 1 pm. It will be the most gorgeous channel that you will ever see," Punit Mishra, Chief Executive Officer, ZEEL, said.</p>

<p>They have partnered with studios like Paramount, Disney and Sony for the channel's content.</p>

<p>"It is for consumers who are seeking for larger than life and varied experiences... content which is across multiple genres," he said.</p>

<p>"The channel is targeting viewers who want to see big blockbusters, superhero films, big animation films and more. That`s why it will exist in SD and HD avatars," he added.</p>

<p>The country is seeing a good growth in English movie channels.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There are 183 million TV watching homes, out of which 51 million watch English movies. There are a lot of offerings out there but there is space for each of these offerings to try and get themselves differentiated and position themselves in a way to get love of consumers," said Mishra.</p>

<p>Non-BJP parties are beaming after success in bypoll results on May 31, particularly on BJP's defeat in Kairana. All local satraps of non-BJP parties (or can we say a legion of aspiring PM candidates) are denouncing that this is beginning of end game for Modi and Shah.</p>

<p>The rhetoric is that united opposition would make sure that BJP is defeated in 2019. Somehow Congress is in the funniest situation. All the spokespersons of the party have been upbeat and smiling on all channels despite the fact Congress got nothing in this bypoll. When one TV anchor asked a very pertinent question to Congress last night "whether your objective in 2019 to win election or just to make sure that BJP is defeated?", Congress spokesperson was mumbling in response.</p>

<p>The bottomline is that despite results of Kairana and Gorakhpur/Phulpur earlier, the non-BJP federal front stands no merit. In the first place, against a formidable Modi/Shah duo, the united opposition will not have an easy task in hand. But even if they have a chance, it is not good for the nation in any way.</p>

<p>History tells this to us in an unequivocal manner.</p>

<p>There is a very unique paradox here. All these parties are coming together because of a looming existential crisis. There is an ultimate fear factor and let's call it XYZ factor. This&nbsp; XYZ factor may keep these parties on a platform until the time of the election. Once they get political success (this is just an assumption though) this XYZ factor vanishes in no time. Since XYZ was the only binding factor, once it goes, in-fighting and split is imminent. Once in power, personal political agenda of each satrap will come to the fore and completely take over the XYZ factor. This phenomenon is in the very DNA of the mankind and cannot be denied.</p>

<p>In 1977, as soon as all leaders under JP were able to defeat Indira Gandhi and government was formed at the Centre, swords came out and all heavyweights started fighting with each other. It took just a couple of years for the government to fall.</p>

<p>In 1989, the drive to remove Rajiv and Congress was so strong that in an unprecedented move left (CPI/CPM) and right (BJP) came on a single platform to support VP Singh. VP Singh couldn't even complete one year at the office.</p>

<p>Take the latest example of Karnataka. In a haste to stop the BJP, Congress and JD(S) have come together but once in power, they are not even able to set ministers for different portfolios even after 10 days of getting a go ahead for forming the government.</p>

<p>But make no mistake. Even a united opposition is in no way in the position of 1977 and 1989. In 1977, there was nationwide anger against Indira Gandhi and in 1989 there was a clear resentment against Rajiv. Being astute statesmen, JP and VP Singh capitalised on the situation and built a strong narrative. This time united opposition neither have a unique politician (like JP and VP Singh) behind whom other can coalesce and at the top of it, Modi is still on a very strong pitch.</p>

<p>Bypoll results can be misleading. One political commentator made a very interesting comment. He said that Modi's direct involvement in any election in itself results in 2-3% vote swing in favour of BJP. So the real battle would be a different ball game.</p>

<p>In the end, the slogan "Modi hatao" cannot be the single point objective. Opposition parties need to set a convincing agenda and put up the same to voters. The Indian democracy and voters have matured over the years. Extrapolating Kairana's result to the whole nation in 2019 can, in fact, be fatal for the united opposition.</p>

<p>Modi and Shah are very much up for the challenge. There is one full year for the 2019 election and Amit Shah is shrewd enough to recalibrate his plans for this new challenge.</p>

<p>The attempt of united opposition to topple BJP is bound to fail and it is nothing more the repeat of failed experiments in the past.</p>

But make no mistake. Even a united opposition is in no way in the position of 1977 and 1989. In 1977, there was nationwide anger against Indira Gandhi and in 1989 there was a clear resentment against Rajiv. Being astute statesmen, JP and VP Singh capitalised on the situation and built a strong narrative. This time united opposition neither have a unique politician (like JP and VP Singh) behind whom other can coalesce and at the top of it, Modi is still on a very strong pitch. Bypoll results can be misleading. One political commentator made a very interesting comment. He said that Modi's direct involvement in any election in itself results in 2-3% vote swing in favour of BJP. So the real battle would be a different ball game. In the end, the slogan "Modi hatao" cannot be the single point objective. Opposition parties need to set a convincing agenda and put up the same to voters. The Indian democracy and voters have matured over the years. Extrapolating Kairana's result to the whole nation in 2019 can, in fact, be fatal for the united opposition. Modi and Shah are very much up for the challenge. There is one full year for the 2019 election and Amit Shah is shrewd enough to recalibrate his plans for this new challenge. The attempt of united opposition to topple BJP is bound to fail and it is nothing more the repeat of failed experiments in the past. <p>He has also been barred from "holding position as director or key managerial person of a listed company for a period of five years", it added.</p>

<p>Capoor and Murali have been restrained from holding directorship or key managerial positions for one year.</p>

<p>"In the context of diversion of funds perpetrated in a listed company by way of dubious and concealed financial statements/ projections or false books of accounts, it is inevitable that Sebi should step in and take appropriate action..," Sebi Whole Time Member G Mahalingam said in the order.&nbsp;</p>

Congress-JD(S) to fight 2019 Lok Sabha polls together, announce cabinet portfolios in Karnataka

<p>The government introduced a new reward scheme on Friday for awarding and encouraging people to give information about benami transactions and properties.</p>

<p>Under the scheme, a person can get a maximum of Rs 1 crore for providing information on benami (proxy) transactions and properties.</p>

<p>The new&nbsp;initiative known as "Benami&nbsp;Transactions Informants Reward Scheme" will help the Income Tax Department to unearth black money and to reduce tax evasion.</p>

<p>The ministry also clarified that strict confidentiality will be maintained under the scheme and the identity of the person giving the information will not be disclosed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The rewards will also be given to foreigners for disclosing such transactions and properties.</p>

<p>The Ministry also said that black money was invested in properties in the names of others, even though benefits were enjoyed by the investor concealing his beneficial ownership in his tax returns.</p>

<p>The Finance Ministry said, "Under Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018 a person can get reward upto Rs 1 crore for giving specific information in prescribed manner to the Joint or Additional Commissioners of Benami Prohibition Units in Investigation Directorates of Income Tax Department".</p>

<p>Under revised Income Tax Informants Reward Scheme, a person can get reward up to Rs 50lakh for giving info in prescribed manner to designated officers of Investigation Directorates in IT Dept about substantial evasion of tax on income or assets in India actionable under IT Act '61 ANI reported.<br />

<p>The Seychelles-India agreement for a naval facility on Assumption island is clearly stalled because of that African country's domestic politics, Seychellois President Danny Faure tells WION in an exclusive interview.</p>

<p>President Faure's in-depth interaction with WION at the State House in the capital, Victoria comes ahead of his first State visit to New Delhi this month.&nbsp</p>

<p>The Seychelles-India deal was initially reached in 2015 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Victoria. The deal is for India to build, maintain and operate a maritime facility on 'Ássumption' Island. The island is strategically located on key Indian Ocean routes and will give-if and when set up- New Delhi a vital positioning. The deal has to be ratified by the Seychellois National Assembly but it is stuck since the Opposition controls the Parliament.</p>

<p>"India understands, the Prime Minister understands the Seychelles position and I am happy there hasn’t been any movement whereby the government of India has tried to influence our domestic politics," President Faure tells WION, adding, "I am President. I am the head of the Executive, but, I do not have a majority in our parliament." The President said, "I have decided not to submit the agreement to the National Assembly." But, he makes it clear, " That doesn’t mean that the ambition of my government, my administration for us to have a coast guard facility on Assumption does not remain."<br />

President Faure also tells WION protecting the Exclusive Economic Zone-EEZ- of Seychelles is made possible by India's presence, New Delhi providing security assets and training military personnel. The President, in his interview, says, "India, as our neighbor is a good friend and has been with Seychelles in good times and bad times. We have received technical cooperation for defense and security. With the support we have received from India, we have been able over the years to build our own defense forces."</p>

<p>On the theory that China is encircling India with its 'String of Pearls' strategy, the President says, "We have welcomed all partners and at no time have we found ourselves under any pressure from the Chinese government."</p>

<p>On China's cheque-book diplomacy that has pushed many countries into a debt trap, the Seychellois Head of State says, " Our relationship has been very different. I think the relation is based on respect and I have found that from my interaction with PM Modi and the relationship that I have with the Chinese government. Big countries, with the size of your country, with the size of your population, have genuine respect for a small country like Seychelles. Our relationship has never been one of being dictated to by big countries and I think it is in this context that I believe that our relationship will grow with both India and China."</p>

India, PM Modi understand why naval facility deal is stuck, Seychelles President tells WION in exclusive interview

<p>Days ahead of RBI's monetary policy review, India's three major banks SBI, PNB and ICICI Bank today increased their benchmark lending rates or MCLR by up to 0.1 per cent, making loans costlier for consumers.</p>

<p>The new rates are effective from today.</p>

<p>India's largest lender SBI has increased the lending rate by 10 basis points across all tenors up to three years.</p>

<p>Now SBI's overnight and one-month tenors' Marginal Cost of Funds Based Lending Rate (MCLR) stands at 7.9 per cent as against 7.8 per cent, as per the SBI's website.</p>

<p>The MCLR for a three-year tenor increased to 8.45 per cent from 8.35 per cent earlier.</p>

<p>The state-owned Punjab National (PNB), the country's second largest lender, raised the MCLR for three-year and five-year tenors to 8.55 per cent and 8.7 per cent, respectively.</p>

<p>Country's second largest private bank ICICI Bank too said it has raised five-year tenor MCLR by 10 bps to 8.70 per cent. It has also raised the MCLR by 10 bps in loans with tenor of one year and three years.</p>

<p>However, lending rate remains unchanged in case of loans up to three months.</p>

<p>PNB has also increased the base rate to 9.25 per cent from the earlier 9.15 per cent.</p>

<p>Private sector bank ICICI Bank too has raised one-year MCLR by 10 bps to 8.40 per cent from today.</p>

<p>Other banks, sources said, were also likely to follow suit.</p>

<p>Most of home and auto loans are linked to MCLR.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, mortage lender HDFC said that it has increased its retail prime lending rate (RPLR), on which its adjustable rate home loans (ARHL) are benchmarked, by 10 basis points, effective tomorrow.</p>

<p>Karnataka Bank has raised its interest rates on deposits.</p>

<p>Interest on domestic and NRE rupee term deposits for a period of one year to two years stands revised to 7.25 per cent from 7.10 (for deposits up to Rs 10 crore) representing a hike of 15 basis points, it said in a regulatory filing.</p>

<p>The revised rates are effective from yesterday, it added.&nbsp</p>
