<p>"The great-grandson of the man who authored 'The Discovery of India'&nbsp;could with his customary inaccuracies one day give to this country his monumental work on 'The Rediscovery of Coca-Cola,'" Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley published a blog on Wednesday targetting Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, harping on his factual "customary inaccuracies" and his "inability to understand basic procedure of bank functioning".&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a scathing attack on the Congress, Jaitley questioned if the party has no ideology left at its core and if its Anti-Modi stance is the only way to steer the ship forward.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jaitley eulogised NDA's Mudra Yojana describing it as an imperative tool in job creation and generating self-employment opportunities to various weaker sections.</p>

<p>"Two days ago, while addressing a gathering of what they claimed were their OBC supporters, Rahul Gandhi spoke on the entrepreneurial skills of Shikanjiwalas, dabbawalas and mechanics. Though factually what he stated was incorrect, the larger point is that he saw virtues in these professions which can act as a launch pad for many start-ups," Jaitley wrote.</p>

<p>"It is the NDA Government under Prime Minister Modi which realised the importance of millions of such self-employment opportunities for which in the year 2015 Mudra Yojana was launched... The UPA never did so," he further added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The piece continued to attack Rahul Gandhi stating that while political positions are heritable, "unfortunately wisdom is not. It has to be acquired through learning".</p>

<p>Jaitley, in his verbal attack, questioned the Congress' new-found love for the OBC community adding that "the OBCs deserted Congress Party in the early 1990s. The Congress was always anti-OBC".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later in the piece, Jaitley enumerates instances where he thinks the Congress chief gave away his weaknesses. "Interacting with his interviewer in Singapore a few weeks ago, Rahul Gandhi left his audience stunned by suggesting if MRI machines in India were connected, this would lead to a Medical Revolution. How? Except breaching a patient’s privacy by sharing his details with other hospitals what would this achieve?" Jaitley questioned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"In all the above statements, there is no ideological pattern. Ignorance with anti-Modism is a common thread," the piece read.</p>

<p>Jaitley concluded by announcing dynastic political parties as "family and personality dominated" where "ideology takes a back seat".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in Chambliyal sector of Samba in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.</p>

<p>Among the deceased were two BSF jawans, one Assistant Commandant and one Sub-Inspector, who were killed during the shelling while they were out and retaliating.</p>

<p>Earlier in May, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan had spoken to each other on the issue of ceasefire violations and terrorist activities and agreed to fully implement the ceasefire understanding of 2003, to ensure that ceasefire will not be violated by both sides.</p>

<p>Both the DGMOs had reviewed the prevailing situation along the Line of Control and International Boundary in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an official statement.</p>

<p>Russia's Ambassador to India Nikolay Kudashev has said his country and India have a special and strategic relationship in the real sense of the word because of the efforts put in by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.</p>

<p>Speaking on the occasion of Day of Russia celebrations at the embassy on Tuesday evening, Ambassador Kudashev said, "The presence of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the celebrations to mark this day at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi not only reminded many of the glorious past which both countries so proudly cherish, but it also reflects the rebuilding of the trust, which according to some quarters has been fading."</p>

<p>Ambassador Kudashev thanked Swaraj for her personal valuable contribution in strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation between India and Russia.</p>

<p>Commenting on the friendship that exists between the two countries, Ambassador Kudashev said, "It is heartening to note that one of the first major international initiatives taken by newly born Russia was the signing of the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation with India on January 28, 1993. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the document, as well as the 71st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries, which are one of a kind, rich in substance and unique in terms of mutual respect, trust and benefit."</p>

<p>An FIR has been registered against unknown persons after Assam BJP MLA Aminul Haque Laskar received a letter, along with two bullets, directing him to leave the party within 15 days as he is a "Muslim".</p>

<p>The letter to Laskar, representing the Sonai constituency in Cachar district, came from an unknown group 'Save Secure and Development Protection Force of Muslim, Barak Valley Zone', police said.</p>

<p>"We have registered an FIR against unknown persons for a threatening letter to Laskar on Sunday. Two live cartridges of .32 pistol also came with the letter," Silchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Indrajit Chakraborty said.</p>

<p>The case was registered under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.</p>

<p>"I received the letter by post. It said the BJP and the RSS are communal organisations and they are working against the Muslims. So, being a Muslim, I should not be in that party," he added.</p>

<p>He said the letter told him to quit the party within 15 days.</p>

<p>Laskar, however, doubted the authenticity of the demand, saying it might be a handiwork of syndicate mafias involved in urea, drugs and land "against which I have been fighting".</p>

<p>The MLA said he will continue his fight against anti-social elements and demanded a thorough probe by the police.&nbsp</p>

<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday questioned former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, why he damaged the walls of the official bungalow allotted to him when he was in power.</p>

<p>Briefing media here, state health minister Siddharth Nath Singh said, "I would like to tell Akhilesh that you're a respected leader and former chief minister, but besides that, you're also well-educated. Income Tax Department should see if the calculations are fine, even better if he himself submits how did he use money and where did he get money from."</p>

<p>Further, he lambasted Akhilesh's repeated claims that the BJP was taking credit for the development projects initiated by the previous SP government in the state, saying they "only cut ribbons" and did not spend "single money".</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, Akhilesh denied charges of damaging the government bungalow he was staying in and accused the BJP-led state government of putting "false allegations" on him.</p>

<p>While addressing the media here, Akhilesh said the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government is unable to digest the Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypoll defeat and thus is getting antsy out of "frustration".</p>

<p>Further slamming the BJP, Akhilesh said the government "didn't acknowledge the Metro work done by my government".</p>

<p>"My government built world-class infrastructure in the state," he added.</p>

<p>On June 2, Akhilesh vacated his official residence and shifted at the Ansal API Township on Sultanpur road in Lucknow.</p>

<p>According to reports, he has allegedly taken away imported tiles, ceiling, AC, garden lights and bathroom fittings among others from the bungalow.</p>

<p>The Enforcement Directorate(ED) had earlier filed a chargesheet against Nirav Modi and his associates at a special court in Mumbai. The charge sheet has been filed under various sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ED had summoned Nirav's family for questioning on a number of occasions but did not get any reply.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The CBI is still trying to confirm Nirav Modi's whereabouts before moving against him.<br />

<p>According to the Central Pollution Control Board data, the air quality in the national capital today deteriorated beyond the "severe" level because of a ground-level dust storm in western India.</p>

<p>According to reports, the dust storm has led to an increase in coarser particles in the air.</p>

<p>The CPCB data showed that the PM10 (particles with a diameter less than 10mm) level was beyond "severe" at 778 in Delhi-NCR area and 824 in Delhi particularly, leading to hazy conditions and limiting visibility.</p>

<p>"There was a ground-level dust storm in the western part of the country that increased drastically coarser particles in the air, causing a spike in pollution levels in Delhi," noted Gufran Beig, a scientist at the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research Institute.</p>

<p>"Such dust storms accompanied by high-speed winds (30-40 kmph) do not last too long due to which the air quality will return to normal by this evening," Beig added.</p>

<p>According to the CPCB data, the air quality index at several places in Delhi crossed the 500-mark. East Delhi's Anand Vihar area recorded an AQI of 891.</p>

According to the Central Pollution Control Board data, the air quality in the national capital today deteriorated beyond the "severe" level because of a ground-level dust storm in western India. According to reports, the dust storm has led to an increase in coarser particles in the air. The CPCB data showed that the PM10 (particles with a diameter less than 10mm) level was beyond "severe" at 778 in Delhi-NCR area and 824 in Delhi particularly, leading to hazy conditions and limiting visibility. "There was a ground-level dust storm in the western part of the country that increased drastically coarser particles in the air, causing a spike in pollution levels in Delhi," noted Gufran Beig, a scientist at the Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research Institute. "Such dust storms accompanied by high-speed winds (30-40 kmph) do not last too long due to which the air quality will return to normal by this evening," Beig added. According to the CPCB data, the air quality index at several places in Delhi crossed the 500-mark. East Delhi's Anand Vihar area recorded an AQI of 891. <p>The police described the accused as an "unstable person" and confirmed that he did not seem to have any connection with any terrorist outfit.</p>

<p>Further, the motive of the accused has also not been disclosed yet.&nbsp</p>

<p>Global credit agency Fitch today raised India's growth forecast in 2018-19 to 7.4 from 7.3 per cent although it placed rising oil prices as a risk toward India's growth.</p>

<p>"We have revised up our forecast for 2018-19 growth to 7.4 per cent from 7.3 per cent in March. However, higher financing costs (stemming from monetary tightening and higher market premiums) and rising oil prices should limit the upside to growth," Fitch said.</p>

<p>Moody's had cut India's growth to 7.3 from 7.5 per cent last month. Fitch pegged India growth next year to a steady 7.5 per cent.</p>

<p>In April, Fitch had placed India's sovereign rating at 'BBB-' with 'stable' outlook, saying that the country's medium-term growth potential is strong. Moody's had earlier upgraded India's rating after a gap of 14 years.</p>

<p>The rating agency, however, cautioned that India's rupee was the worst performing currency in Asia, noting however that it was in a better situation than five years ago.</p>

<p>"India has better macroeconomic fundamentals than in 2013 and very low foreign ownership rates in the domestic government bond market, but the current account deficit has been widening as a result of rising oil prices, reviving domestic demand and poor manufacturing export performance," Fitch observed.</p>

<p>Fitch said India's near-term growth prospect remained robust despite trade tensions.</p>

<p>Choubey told the media here that Indian security forces are always prepared for retaliation and that "there is no let up in border surveillance.'</p>

<p>"Ceasefire is always a bilateral decision, we have always maintained the sanctity of the ceasefire, but Pakistan has violated it," Choubey said.</p>

<p>"Every instrument required to protect the territorial integrity of the border is maintained," he added.</p>

<p>The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a charge sheet against Karti Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis Case case in Delhi's Patiala House Court. The next date of hearing is July 4, ANI reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Talking to ANI on the issue, BJP senior leader, Subramanian Swamy said that the charge sheet should have been filed much earlier, but due to some officers in the ED who were trying to help Chidambaram, the process got delayed. He said, “This should have been done much earlier but few officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation were helping Chidambaram, even a few ministers were helping him, but now the Prime Minister has stopped all these. The CBI and the ED have been asked not to entertain any interference from anyone and take their own decisions.”</p>

<p>“After the charge sheet will be filed against Karti, another will be issued against Chidambaram. Chidambaram will again have to appear before the ED, he keeps on lying but gets caught.” P. Chidambaram’s son Karti was arrested on February 28 at the Chennai airport upon his return from the United Kingdom, for his alleged role in the case. Currently, Karti is on bail too. He allegedly took service charges for getting the FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving funds from abroad worth Rs 305 crore in 2007 when his father was the finance minister.</p>

<p>On June 6, the Enforcement Directorate said it has again summoned former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on June 12 for questioning in the Rs 3,500 crore Aircel-Maxis case.</p>

<p>Chidambaram was quizzed by the ED on June 5 for over five hours and his statement recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the Aircel-Maxis case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED are investigating how Karti Chidambaram allegedly managed to get a clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in the Aircel-Maxis deal when his father was the Union Finance Minister in 2006.</p>

<p>The ED, in September 2017, had attached Karti's assets worth Rs 1.16 crore. Karti faces probe for allegedly receiving kickbacks in lieu of the FIPB clearance.</p>

<p>Over 3,500 families have been rendered homeless in Tripura as heavy rains hit the state during the past 24 hours, officials said today.</p>

<p>Although the rain stopped this morning, over 500 families have been evacuated to six relief camps during the period in West Tripura's Sadar sub-division as their homes were submerged by water.</p>

<p>The water level in the river Howrah, which passes through the capital town, was flowing slightly below the danger level at&nbsp;12 pm, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sadar Tapan Kumar Das said.</p>

<p>"The situation may turn worse if the state receives fresh shower as predicted by the meteorological department. We are ready to meet any eventuality as all officials concerned are alerted," he said.</p>

<p>The Assam-Agartala National Highway, considered lifeline of the state, was thrown open for vehicular movement after clearing debris late last night. The road remained cut off for several hours due to landslips at Atharamura hill yesterday.</p>

<p>According to the latest report of the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), over 3,500 families are lodged in 89 relief camps as heavy downpour inundated their dwelling houses in some sub-divisions.</p>

<p>Kumarghat and Panisagar in Unakoti district, Sabroom in South Tripura district, Amarpur in Gomati district and Telimaura in Khowai district are hard hit by the rain, a SEOC official said.</p>

<p>NDRF and TSR personnel are working in coordination with the respective district administrations to render help to the affected families, he said adding there was no report of human casualty but, damage to crops was extensive, official sources said.</p>
