<p>Nearly 65,000 'cyber warriors' of the BJP are all set to take on 'Rajiv Ke Sipahi' of the Congress in cyber space to woo young voters on social media platforms in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls.&nbsp</p>

<p>The BJP's state information technology (IT) cell in-charge, Shivraj Singh Dabi, said about 65,000 'cyber warriors' have been deployed by the party in the last three months and 5,000 more will be deputed shortly,&nbsp</p>

<p>The state Congress has set up a team of around 4,000 'Rajiv Ke Sipahi' (named after their leader and former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi credited with the digital revolution in India) to battle it out against the BJP on social media.</p>

<p>The Congress will train 5,000 more people for the task, the state party's IT cell in-charge, Dharmendra Bajpai, said.</p>

<p>"We are going to hold training sessions in the state's revenue divisions from June 25," he said.</p>

<p>Both the leaders said they were going to reach out to people on popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter. They would specially focus on WhatsApp, owing to its wide reach.</p>

<p>"During elections, our biggest weapon is going to be WhatsApp," Bajpai said.</p>

<p>On the BJP's strategy, Dabi said, "We are going to be doubly active on WhatsApp as it's the biggest communication tool, specially to reach out to commoners and villagers."</p>

<p>He said the party used social media to counter the Congress' 10-day Gaon bandh during the farmers' agitation in MP from June 1 to June 10.</p>

<p>The BJP's IT cell highlighted the central and state governments' welfare schemes for farmers during the agitation, Dabi said.</p>

<p>He claimed that the party thwarted the Congress' bid to capitalise on the farmers' agitation.</p>

<p>In contrast, Bajpai said their 'Rahul with farmers' hash-tag on Twitter was a "huge success".</p>

<p>It was trending for 23 hours on Twitter when Congress chief Rahul Gandhi visited MP Mandsaur district and addressed a farmers' rally on June 6, he said.</p>

<p>The hash-tag recorded participation of more than 1.25 lakh people on the widely used social networking site, Bajpai claimed.</p>

<p>Both the parties said through the use of social media, they would try to dispel misunderstandings and false propaganda of their rivals in the run-up to the state polls.</p>

<p>The Congress on Sunday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Kashmir issue, calling it one of his government's biggest "failures", and wondered what India gained out of his foreign trips when he failed to stall the "pathetic" UN report on the alleged human rights violation there.</p>

<p>Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera underlined his party's concern over the situation in the Valley, and asked the government to make public the measures it is taking for the security of the pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to start on June 28.</p>

<p>"Are you (government) capable of giving the pilgrims security?" he asked at a press conference here.</p>

<p>The Congress has been waiting for four years for an all-party meeting on the Kashmir issue, Khera said.</p>

<p>He accused the BJP of turning Kashmir into an "abhorrent laboratory" of its experiment of "communal politics" and alleged that the situation in the Valley is not only a failure of the central government's internal policies but also its foreign policy.</p>

<p>The state of affairs in the Valley has become worse than what it was in 1990s, he told reporters, noting that the Election Commission is unable to hold the Lok Sabha bypolls in Anantnag due to law and order problems.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A by-election recorded a paltry seven per cent polling under the present dispensation as against 71 per cent witnessed during the UPA's tenure, Khera said.</p>

<p>"Kashmir will be listed among one of the biggest failures of the Modi government. The situation there is becoming perhaps worse than what it was in the 1990s," he said, adding that 57 major attacks have taken place there in 27 days.</p>

<p>While the world used to see it as a territorial issue, the BJP gave it a communal colour, he alleged, and referred to the gang rape and murder of girl from a nomadic Muslim tribe in Kathua.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ministers of the ruling party communalised the issue, Khera claimed.</p>

<p>The Congress leader also targeted the prime minister over the "one-sided" UN report on Kashmir, saying he keeps flexing his muscles over his overseas trips but the fact he allowed it to come out is his "crime".</p>

<p>"What benefits has the country got from all your (Modi's) so-called goodwill foreign trips about which you keep boasting about," he asked, termed the UN report "one-sided" and "pathetic".</p>

<p>"Such a report was perhaps never brought in the history of independent India. Has India not been embarrassed because of you. This is your crime Modi ji that you allowed such a report to come out," Khera alleged.</p>

<p>He demanded that the government should call an all-party meeting on the Kashmir issue while underscoring the Congress' concern about the security of Amarnath pilgrims.</p>

<p>The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights had recently released its first-ever report on alleged human rights violation in Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and demanded an international probe into it.</p>

'Frightened and victimised' IAS Association claims they are not on strike

<p>In the wake of the Aam Aadmi Party's protest march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, the Delhi Metro has decided to shut down five stations on Sunday.</p>

<p>The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has closed the entry and exit from Lok Kalyan Marg station from 12 noon. The DMRC further shut down the Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Patel Chowk and Janpath stations at 2 pm.</p>

In the wake of the Aam Aadmi Party's protest march to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, the Delhi Metro has decided to shut down five stations on Sunday. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has closed the entry and exit from Lok Kalyan Marg station from 12 noon. The DMRC further shut down the Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Patel Chowk and Janpath stations at 2 pm. <p>When asked why there is opposition to the project, he said that environmental concern is an issue as Assumption is not far from Aldabra which is a UNESCO world heritage and therefore there were concerns but the idea of having a small coast guard facility to protect the islands is part of our strategy, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Maharashtra is a priority state for the Congress Party where they wish to fight the 2019 elections under the "one constituency, one candidate" proposal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Maharashtra is a big state and sends 48 MPs to the Lok Sabha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Former chief minister of Maharashtra and state president of the Congress, Ashok Chavan told WION that the Congress would fight the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as part of a large umbrella alliance along with 9 to 10 parties including the NCP.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that that would prevent the anti-BJP vote from splitting and that all like-minded parties would be adjusted in the alliance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chavan had to resign as Maharashtra CM because of the Adarsh scam but he was subsequently reinstated as Maharashtra PCC chief.&nbsp;</p>

<strong>WION:</strong> Has Congress been able to put its house in order?<br />
<strong>Ashok Chavan:</strong> Our house is in order. Dynamics change in politics, new ideas emerge and new people join the organisation. What we have learnt is that we need to be more careful in managing the expectations of people quickly. In my opinion, speed is the key to the issue of meeting the challenge of expectation by political organisation.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> What are the issues Congress Party is zeroing in on?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> Farmer distress is a big issue in Maharashtra and is directly linked with agricultural output, loans and pricing policy. The state government has failed on all the fronts. It is for this reason farmers' suicides have taken place in Maharashtra. Another issue is that of unemployment and corruption in the state.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> What is your position on an alliance in Maharashtra?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> With NCP, we are moving in the right direction. Congress want all like-minded parties like NCP, BSP, Peasant and Worker Party, RPI, Left, SP and groups supported by Prakash Ambedkar to come together. Sharad Pawar has been discussing political situation with Rahul Gandhi and we are working towards stitching an understanding in this direction.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> What is the Congress position on reservations for Marathas?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> It was a unanimous decision on our part. We wanted the reservation for the community but state government did not represent the case properly in the court hence it was set aside. But we will take up this issue apart from those raised by other communities as well.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> The difference between the BJP’s and the Congress' vote share in 2014 was huge. How do you expect to bridge the gap?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> 2014 was a different election. People believed in the promises made by Narendra Modi. People expected him to deliver on social and economic fronts. Now people realise that promises will not be kept as they were chunavi jumlas. It is for this reason voting pattern in 2019 will be different from 2014.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> This does not solve your problem. Now Shiv Sena-BJP are again coming together?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> Let them come together. Didn’t we defeat Shiv Sena-BJP combine again and again? BJP does not need Shiv Sena. The latter needs the BJP. We will defeat both for simple reason that secular vote will not split this time.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> Congress did very badly in urban areas. What have you done to retrieve lost ground?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> Urban areas have been affected by GST and demonetisation. We will reap the benefit of it. These areas need a different strategy and we have one. BJP is very much dependent on city votes in the state but it does not mean that urban areas don’t vote for the Congress. 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Congress did very well in urban areas.<br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>WION:</strong> GST and demonetisation neither worked in Uttar Pradesh nor Gujarat?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> It was a year back. Impact of demonetisation and GST are more palpable now. On top it, Maharashtra is suffering from social unrest. Do not forget that under the present dispensation Dalits and minorities have been at the receiving end of the state. Communal harmony is important and will play an important role in the upcoming elections.<br />

<strong>WION:</strong> Are you the CM candidate?<br />
<strong>AC:</strong> I’m a worker of the Congress party. Who gets to be the CM, if Congress comes to power, will be decided by the leadership. It will be a party decision. My job is to run the party in the state and I’m doing that.</p>

Chief ministers' support is matter of pride for Aam Aadmi Party: Saurabh Bhardwaj

<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the challenge now before the government is to take the economic growth rate to double digits, for which many important steps would have to be taken.</p>

<p>In his opening remarks at the fourth meeting of the Niti Aayog Governing Council, the prime minister also assured the chief ministers of flood-affected states of providing all central assistance to deal with the situation.</p>

<p>Observing that the Indian economy has grown at a healthy rate of 7.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2017-18, Modi said the challenge now is to take this growth rate to double digits, which requires more important measures.</p>

<p>The conference among other things would deliberate on issues like doubling of farmers' income, development of aspirational districts, Ayushman Bharat, Mission Indradhanush, Nutrition Mission and celebrations of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.</p>

<p>These steps, Modi said, were essential to achieving the vision of New India by 2020.</p>

<p>The prime minister said the Governing Council was a platform that could bring about "historic change" in the development of the country.</p>

<p>He assured the chief ministers from flood-affected states that the Union government would provide all assistance to them to deal with the flood situations.</p>

<p>Modi further said the council has approached complex issues of governance as "Team India", in the spirit of cooperative, competitive federalism.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The prime minister said chief ministers of states had played a key role in policy formulation, through sub-groups and committees on issues such as Swachh Bharat Mission, Digital Transactions and Skill Development.</p>

<p>The recommendations of these sub-groups have been incorporated by various ministries of the Union government, he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday got a break from the heat wave and dusty conditions as rainfall finally hit the region. Chandigarh and its surrounding areas were lashed by rain since Saturday evening.</p>

<p>The maximum temperature in the capital city of Punjab and Haryana was 29.4, nine degrees below the average on Saturday.</p>

<p>Chandigarh and nearby areas continued to get intermittent rain on Sunday with overcast skies.</p>

<p>"Chandigarh saw such a bad weather in the past over one week. First, there was a heat wave followed by two days of very dusty weather. The rain has brought so much relief," Manju Malhotra, a homemaker in Panchkula town, said.</p>

<p>All flights to and from the Chandigarh airport were cancelled on Thursday and Friday due to dusty conditions. Hundreds of passengers were affected by the flight disruption. Flight operation resumed on Saturday.</p>

<p>The Met Department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several areas of both states till Monday.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Himachal Pradesh has predicted rainfall in dust-covered Shimla in the next two days. The Himachal town was battling high temperatures and dust-laden air the past week.&nbsp</p>

<p>"North-westerly winds carried dust to entire North India. Humidity was high in Himachal. With dust, visibility was poor here. Rainfall is expected in next 2 days, it'll clear weather," state IMD Director Manmohan Singh told ANI.</p>

<p>The weather department also issued warnings of thunderstorms, rain, and squally winds in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Himalayan region.</p>

<p>Miriyam's mother has also been reported missing in the landslide.</p>

<p>A total of six more persons from three families are yet to be traced from under the rubble, officials said, adding search operations were continuing to try and rescue them.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed authorities to disburse compensation to those who suffered losses and whose property was damaged.</p>

<p>He gave the directions to District Collectors through video conferencing at the Collectorate at Thiruvananthapuram.</p>

<p>State ministers TP Ramakrishnan and A K Saseendran visited affected areas in Kozhikode district and later told reporters that the delayed arrival of the 50 member National Disaster Response Force team was due to flooded roads and had not hampered rescue and relief operations.</p>

<p>Fire and Rescue Force and police, along with local people swung into action in search of the missing persons, they said.</p>

<p>The NDRF also intensified search operations in the affected areas after their arrival, the ministers said.</p>

<p>The affected people, housed in relief camps, have been provided with food, medicines and drinking water, they said.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, leader of the opposition in Kerala assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, who visited the affected region today, sought a special package for those hit by landslides in the district.</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters later, he demanded action against unauthorised check dams and sought closure of illegal quarries in hilly regions of the district.</p>

<p>He also urged the authorities to set up an NDRF unit in Kozhikode.</p>

<p>Yesterday, the government had issued a red alert in northern districts-Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Palakkad, Kasargod and Malappuram- in view of heavy rain forecast till June 18.</p>

<p>West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday hit out at the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal describing the&nbsp;<a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/cms-of-four-state-seek-appointment-with-lg-anil-baijal-meet-delhi-cms-wife-144860">situation in the national capital as&nbsp;"constitutional crisis"</a>.</p>

<p>"This is a constitutional crisis. But there should never be such crisis due to which a government and the common people have to suffer," the West Bengal CM said.</p>

<p>While addressing a press conference Banerjee said that she was not allowed to meet the Delhi CM and her appointment with the LG was also not entertained.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The work in the capital was disrupted for the past four months&nbsp;</p>

<p>"There are two&nbsp;Crore people in Delhi. The work has been disrupted for four months, there can be nothing more unfortunate than this. LG is the appointed leader, if not he then to whom will one to go to seek time to talk? I wanted to meet Delhi CM but I was told, verbally and not even written, that permission will not be granted. Then four of us wrote to LG for an&nbsp;appointment but we were told that he (LG) is not even there. We waited so long but we were not allowed".</p>

<p>She also sought the intervention of the Prime Minister to resolve the matter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Expressing his support to the Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu&nbsp;said that the LG should allow the government to function.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We came here to express our support to Delhi CM. The LG has to allow this government to function. Mamata Ji had asked permission from the LG to see the CM to which there was no response".</p>

<p>He further said that the Chief mInisters of the four state were requesting the Lieutenant Governor and government of India to talk it out.</p>

<p>Blaming the Central government behind the " disruption" in Delhi, &nbsp;Kerala chief minister said that centre is restricting the federal structure which is a threat to the nation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Because of the attitude of Central government,&nbsp;this has happened. The centre is restricting the federal system which is a threat to the nation. Everyone is with him (Delhi CM). All the democratic people are with Delhi CM".</p>

<p>"We came here to show our support to Delhi CM. We demand that the Prime Minister interferes in this issue and&nbsp;takes necessary steps to solve this problem," said&nbsp;Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.</p>

<p>Earlier, the chief ministers of West Bengal, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh visited the residence of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday after they were denied the permission to meet the CM.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has been camping at the official accommodation-cum-office of L-G Anil Baijal since Monday.</p>

<p>The CM is staging a protest along with Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Cabinet ministers Satyendra Jain and Gopal Rai.</p>

<p>The protest seeks an end to the Delhi IAS officers' undeclared strike and approval to his government's proposal for doorstep delivery of ration to the poor.</p>

Mamata Banerjee seeks PM's intervention to solve 'constitutional crisis' in Delhi

<p>Ahead of the Niti Aayog meeting in New Delhi, chief ministers of West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala held a meeting at Andhra Pradesh Bhawan in Delhi.</p>

<p>Mamata Banerjee, N Chandrababu Naidu, HD Kumaraswamy and Pinarayi Vijayan are slated to&nbsp;attend the fourth meeting of Governing Council of NITI Aayog at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Sunday.</p>

<p>The Niti Aayog meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be attended by union ministers, chief ministers, lieutenant governors of union territories and senior officials from Government of India.</p>
