Sheena Bora murder case accused Indrani Mukerjea's son Mikhail Bora told the trial court here today that he was not aware of Sheena's alleged engagement.

Defence lawyers are currently cross-examining Mikhail before special CBI judge J C Jagdale.

To a question by defence lawyer Sudeep Pasbola, Mikhail said he was not aware of Sheena's engagement to Rahul, the son of Indrani's husband and co-accused Peter Mukerjea from earlier marriage, in Dehradun.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has claimed that Sheena -- Indrani's daughter from earlier relationship -- was engaged to Rahul, and both Indrani and Peter disapproved of it, which could be one of the motives behind Sheena's killing.

The defence lawyers also pointed out today that Indrani's parents (Mikhail and Sheena's grandparents) had made a new will in April 2012.

It mentioned that due to "recent development in the nature of Sheena's marriage to Rahul Mukerjea" without their consent, and because Sheena "leaving them alone", the new will was being made, the defence said.

Under this will, Mikhail was bequeathed 90 per cent of grandparents' property, while only 10 per cent was left to Sheena, the defence said.

Mikhail admitted that he had accompanied his grandparents to a sub-registrar's office in Guwahati on April 30, 2012. He learnt later that it was for the registration of new will, he claimed.

He did not know why Sheena got a smaller share in the will, as she was not in touch with him, Mikhail said.

Sheena (24) was allegedly killed on April 24, 2012.

The crime came to light in August 2015 after Indrani's driver Shyamvar Rai, arrested in another case, spilled the beans about the killing.

Police arrested Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and Rai himself. Later, Indrani's husband and media baron Peter Mukerjea was also arrested for allegedly being part of the conspiracy.

The Centre today told the Supreme Court that distinct IDs will be created by collecting biometric details of 40 lakh people filing claims and objections with respect to Assam's National Register of Citizens (NRC).

It said that after the publication of the final list of NRC, those people whose name will figure in it will be given usual Aadhaar number as applicable to legal residents in the country.

A bench of justices Ranjan Gogoi, Navin Sinha and K M Joseph was told by Attorney General K K Venugopal that the Centre has prepared the SOP as per apex court's earlier order.

The bench asked them to file the report before the registry and it will be taken up for hearing on August 16.

The government in its affidavit told the apex court that though it had been initially proposed that the process of claims and objections will happen from August 30 to September 28, it would be reasonable to give at least two months time for receiving claims and objections.

It said that during the course of the hearings by NCR authorities on disposing of claims and objections, the state government in collaboration with UIDAI will undertake the process of biometric enrolment of all the applicants of NRC.&nbsp

"The biometric enrolment in respect of persons who are part of claims and those persons objected upon will be distinctive and separate ID will be generated. Once the final NRC has been published such persons who are included in the NRC will be given the usual Aadhaar number as applicable to legal residents in the country," the government said.

It said that in case a person already has Aadhaar number who is also a part of the claim or objected upon, his Aadhaar number will be obtained.&nbsp

The government which filed the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be adopted for disposing of claims and objections with regard to NRC, said that various organisations have made representations that adequate time period at least 3 to 4 months be provided for the purpose of filing the claims and objections.

"It has been initially proposed that the process of claims and objections will happen from August 30 to September 28, 2018. However, it would be reasonable to give at least two months time for receiving claims and objections," it said.

Giving the timeline based on assumption, it said that Class-1 officers will be deployed by the State government and 5 hearing per day will take place or eight hearings per day for cases of children of 14 years or less.

It said that although the hearings on claims and objections will commence from December 15, 2018 but time line for disposal can only be firmed up once the actual number of claims and objections received are known.

It further gave the details as what documents will be needed and what not at the stage of filing of claims and objections and at the stage of hearing by NRC authorities.

On July 31, the apex court had made it clear that there will be no coercive action by authorities against over 40 lakh people, whose names do not figure in NRC, observing that it was merely a draft.

It had asked the Centre to formulate modalities and the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including timelines for deciding claims and objections arising out of the publication of the draft NRC.

It had said that the modalities and SOPs prepared by ministry concerned of government of India should be "fair and giving reasonable opportunity to everyone".

Second draft NRC list was published on July 30 in which out of 3.29 crore people, names of 2.89 crore have been included in the draft NRC.&nbsp

Names of 40,70,707 people do not figure in the list. Of these, 37,59,630 names have been rejected and the remaining 2,48,077 are on hold.

The first draft of the NRC for Assam was published on the intervening night of December 31 and January 1 according to the top court's direction. Names of 1.9 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants were incorporated.

Assam, which had faced influx of people from Bangladesh since the early 20th century, is the only state having an NRC, which was first prepared in 1951.

The top court, which is monitoring the NRC work, had earlier said that the claims of those citizens, whose names do not figure in the draft NRC for Assam published by December 31 last year, would be scrutinised and included in the subsequent list, if found genuine.&nbsp

Separate biometric ID will be created for people filing claims and objections for Assam NRC: Centre

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Monday that the <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/telangana-cm-k-chandrashekhar-rao-meets-pm-modi-hints-at-forming-post-poll-alliance-for-2019-157033">TRS would not have an alliance with any party for the 2019 general elections</a> and that all candidates for the polls would be announced next month.

"TRS is ready to face elections any time....We will announce party candidates next month itself for the coming general elections and will not have any alliance with any party," he said.

On the 'Federal Front' he had proposed earlier, Rao said he would talk to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik about its formation.

"A non-BJP, non-Congress Federal Front may take a little time. But it will be a reality. It cannot happen in one day. I am not in a hurry," he said.

To a query, he said TRS voted for the NDA candidate in the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman election as Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called him and sought his support.

On the state committee meeting, Rao said the party would hold a public meeting on September 2 and present a 'progress report' of Telangana to the people.

He said the TRS passed nine resolutions, including one requesting the Centre to accept the reservation bill that was passed by the state assembly.

The Assembly had on August 16 passed a bill to give 12 per cent quota for socially and economically backward among the Muslims in educational institutions and government jobs.

Without giving a direct reply on reports of an early assembly election, he said the Election Commission has the discretion to conduct it within six months of the original schedule.

He claimed that various surveys by the party indicated that TRS would win over 100 seats in the assembly elections.

Rao said all the settlers in Telangana would be treated as citizens of the state.

He refuted the charge that the government was behind Osmania University declining permission to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi to meet students on the campus on August 10.

The Chief Minister said the government planned to spend Rs 50,000 crore to make Hyderabad a 'Global city'.

The BJP is thiking about holding assembly elections to 11 states along with the Lok Sabha polls next year, news reports said Tuesday morning.&nbsp

PTI quoted a top party leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, as saying the party is thinking about either bringing forward or pushing back several state elections in order to make this possible.&nbsp

The terms of the Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh assemblies will expire in January next year and the governments of these BJP-ruled states may recommend a brief spell of governor's rule so that assembly elections there could be held with the Lok Sabha polls, the party leader said.

The tenure of the assembly in the Congress-ruled Mizoram ends in December this year.

BJP sources said other states where assembly polls can be advanced to enable it to be held with the Lok Sabha polls are Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra — all under BJP rule.Assembly elections in these three states are also scheduled next year following the Lok Sabha polls.

Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana are anyway scheduled to be held with the Lok Sabha polls, the party leader said.&nbsp

The eleventh state the party is thinking of advancing elections in is Bihar, where they are due 2020-end. The BJP is a junior partner in the state.&nbsp

The PTI report however also quoted constitutional experts as saying the BJP's plan may not be legal. Governor's rule, after all, can only be enforced when the constitutional machinery in a state breaks down.&nbsp

Prime Minister <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/modi-favours-wider-debate-on-holding-simultaneous-polls-145038">Narendra Modi</a> and the BJP have often talked about holding simultaneous elections. Their contention is the country seems perpetually to be in election mode, and elections are expensive.&nbsp

The Law Commission is currently studying the idea of holding simultaneous elections. It recently recommended holding the Lok Sabha and assembly polls in two phases beginning 2019.&nbsp

BJP president Amit Shah wrote to the Law Commission on Monday saying his party was in favour of simultaneous elections. He repeated the earlier contentions — that the move would curb expenditure incurred on conducting elections and ensure the nation is not in "election mode" throughout the year.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his whirlwind poll rallies, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Monday that he should address election meetings of all parties and not just the BJP.

He said the prime minister, a star campaigner for the BJP in elections, and also chief ministers, should treat all as equal.

"While being sworn-in, the prime minister, chief ministers and ministers take oath that they will treat everyone as equal. Why should the prime minister go only for the BJP (poll) campaign?" he said, speaking at the 58th anniversary function of the weekly magazine 'Marmik' this evening.

"They (prime ministers) should go for poll campaign of all (parties). They should attend the poll campaign of the Shiv Sena, independents and Communists," Thackeray said.

He made a veiled reference to BJP president Amit Shah writing to the Law Commission, pitching various benefits of holding simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies in the country.

"One nation, one election is nice. If democracy has to take root in our country, then the Election Commission should ban prime minister, chief ministers and ministers from (participating in) poll campaigns," Thackeray said.

"The prime minister says he will give houses for all by 2022. If someone objects, he will say that person has negativity," Thackeray said.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari has said the popular "achhe din" slogan of the BJP has become a "gale mein haddi" (bone stuck in neck) for the NDA government, he said.

He referred to Modi announcing a financial aid of Rs 1,000 crore for the IIT-Bombay during its 56th annual convocation here on Saturday and said the BJP-led government in the state is ignoring the adjoining Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

'While being sworn-in, the prime minister, chief ministers and ministers take oath that they will treat everyone as equal. Why should the prime minister go only for the BJP (poll) campaign?'

The corporation has not got even a single penny of the Rs 6,500 crore that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had promised in 2015, the Sena chief said.

On the eve of India's 72nd Independence Day,&nbsp;President Ram Nath Kovind asserted that contentious issues and extraneous debates should not be allowed to distract us at a "pivotal moment" when the country is at the cusp of achieving many long-awaited goals.

<a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/pm-modi-likely-to-present-his-governments-report-card-in-independence-day-address-tomorrow-159104">Also Read:&nbsp;PM Modi likely to present </a><a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/pm-modi-likely-to-present-his-governments-report-card-in-independence-day-address-tomorrow-159104">government's</a><a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/pm-modi-likely-to-present-his-governments-report-card-in-independence-day-address-tomorrow-159104"> report card on Independence Day</a>

President Kovind recalled Mahatma Gandhi's "most noble mantra" on the power of 'ahinsa'(non-violence) being far greater than the power of 'hinsa' (violence), remarks that come against the backdrop of incidents of lynching and mob violence in some parts of the country.

"The power to stay your hand is far greater than the power to strike with your hand and 'hinsa'&nbsp;has no place in the society".

Touching upon a range of issues, the president also said women were entitled to a life of their choice and security to fulfil their potential, amid concerns over their privacy and safety.

"We are at a juncture in our history that is very different from any period we have so far experienced. We are at the cusp of achieving many of our long-awaited goals.

Universal access to electricity, the elimination of open defecation, the elimination of homelessness, the very elimination of extreme poverty is achievable and attainable. We are at a pivotal moment. Let contentious issues and extraneous debates not distract us," Kovind said.

The president said that every Indian who does not jump the queue and respects the civic space and rights of those ahead in the line lives up to the principles of the country's freedom struggle.

"It's a very small gesture. Let us try and abide by it," Kovind said.

Highlighting the role of farmers in providing food security to fellow citizens and the contribution by the country's armed and police forces in battling terrorism and ensuring law and order, he said every Indian who does his or her job with sincerity and commitment is upholding the principles of our freedom struggle.

He said the "decisions the country takes today, the foundations we lay, the projects we undertake, the social and economic investments we make today whether for the immediate future or for the medium term will determine where we stand."

"The pace of change and development in our country is rapid and appreciable. And as per our civilisational traditions, it is driven by our people, by civil society and by a partnership between citizen and government. Its focus, again in keeping with the essence of Indian thought, is on a better life for the less fortunate," the president noted.

Stressing that women have a special role in the society, he said the expansion of freedom in our country in many senses amounts to the expansion of freedom for women in our country.&nbsp;

"This is true whether we see them as mothers, sisters, daughters or simply as women who are entitled to a life of their choosing and deserving of the opportunity and the security to fulfil their potential".

The president said women could do this as sheet-anchors of families or as absolutely critical entrants to institutions of higher learning and India's workforce.

"The choice is theirs; as a nation and as a society we must ensure that they have the right and the ability to exercise that choice," the president said.

Kovind said the reality is that every Indian who does his or her job with sincerity and commitment, who contributes to society by being true to a professional ethic, be it the doctor's ethic, the nurse's ethic, the teacher's ethic, the public servant's ethic, the factory worker's ethic, the business-person's ethic, the ethic of those who have to care for ageing parents who brought them up with love and sacrifice, each of these and many others are in their own way upholding the values of freedom.

He said Independence Day is always special, but this year there is an unusual significance attached to it as in a few weeks, on October 2, India will begin the commemoration of the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.

"Mahatma Gandhi Everywhere, across continents, Gandhiji is mentioned, cherished and remembered as an icon for all humanity. He is the embodiment of India," the president said.

Kovind said Gandhi spoke of swadeshi with an uncommon zeal and to him Indian civilisation was defined by open windows and not closed doors.

"This was his concept of swadeshi and it is still relevant to us as we engage with the world whether for our economy, our health, education and social aspirations, or our policy choices," the president said, and asked all to adapt Gandhi's ideas and maxim to everyday's work to celebrate our freedom and Indianness.

He said this Indianness is not for us alone. "It is part of what our country and our civilisation bring to the global stage."

Kovind said the outcome of education is not merely a degree or a diploma, but the commitment to help improve the life of another in a way that is sustainable.

"This is empathy and fraternity in action. This is the Indian spirit.&nbsp;

"This is India, because India belongs to the people of India, not just to the government," he added.

I pay tribute to all freedom fighters, he said, adding, I congratulate all Indians on this occasion.

Farmers and soldiers are strong pillars of the nation, says President Kovind in Independence Day address

A day after he was attacked by an unidentified assailant here, JNU student leader Umar Khalid today alleged the real culprits were people breeding an "atmosphere of hatred, bloodlust and fear" from their seats of power and those providing a complete impunity for "assassins and mob lynchers".

On a day when the Delhi Police handed over the case to its special cell, which incidentally is already probing an old sedition case against him and two other students, Khalid also referred to the 'Tukde Tukde' hashtag being prefixed to his name when it was the BJP leaders who "openly support those who say they will do "tukde tukde" of the country (break the country into pieces) if a certain movie is released".

Khalid, who has often been target of the right-wing trolls on social media platforms with allegations of being anti-national ever since some anti-India slogans were allegedly chanted at an event in JNU, also alleged that he has been a victim of a media trial for the last two years without any evidence or charge sheet.

While the attack, which took place in the national capital's high security zone outside the Constitution Club at a short distance away from Parliament and just two days before Independence Day, has already raised questions about security cover of the city, Khalid launched a no-holds-barred attack on the government in a Facebook post and said he always got a "callous response" whenever he sought security from Delhi Police in the last two years.

In the post, he also tagged a picture in which he is seen with journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead last September in Bengaluru.

"With the repeated death threats against my life, and having seen the assassinations of one activist after the other in the last few years, I somehow knew that someday a gun may be turned against me too," he wrote.

"Dhabolkar, Kalburgi, Pansare, Gauri Lankesh, the list of assassinations has been ever-growing. But can I say that I was ready for this? Can anyone ever say that they are ready for such an eventuality for real? No," he said.

Khalid said the fact that he was attacked by an armed assailant in one of the most "high security" zones of the national capital two days before Independence Day proved how some people felt they enjoyed impunity under the current regime.

He said he did not know his attackers but they were not the real culprits.

"The real culprits are those who from their seats of power have been breeding an atmosphere of hatred, of bloodlust and fear. The real culprits are those who have provided an atmosphere of complete impunity for assassins and mob lynchers," he said.

"The real culprits are those spokespersons of the ruling party and the prime time anchors and TV channels who have spread canards about me, branded me anti-national based on lies and virtually incited a lynch-mob against me," Khalid continued.

"Why is it that hashtags like "Tukde Tukde" has literally become a prefix to my name, whereas BJP leaders openly support those who say they will do "tukde tukde" of the country if a certain movie is released?" he asked.

Khalid was attacked when he was on his way to take part in a an event at the Constitution Club after having tea at a shop outside the venue.

The police has said they were not "intimated" about the event in which Khalid was participating.

A police officer, privy to the probe, said police had seized the weapon and preliminary forensic examination suggested that the pistol had jammed.

He said they were yet to ascertain whether shots were fired as no empty cartridges were found on the spot.

The attacker had dropped the weapon and fled the spot, police and witnesses said. A case of attempt to murder was registered by the police later.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech will be available on the Google homepage with public broadcaster Prasar Bharati tying up with the American tech giant for livestreaming the event.

Doordarshan's coverage of Independence Day celebrations tomorrow will open with a patriotic song recorded by singer composer Shankar Mahadevan, and in a first, anchors will present the event from the ramparts of Red Fort.

"Apart from what we normally do, which is going live on TV and livestreaming on Youtube and so on, we will also have the livestream available on the Google search home page as well," Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati told PTI.

"When people are searching for anything to do with Independence Day, the livestream will appear on their page on the top. This will dramatically increase the visibility and access to the livestream," he said.

This facility was also used to telecast the inauguration ceremony of US President Donald Trump.

"Livestreming has now been going on for a few years. Last year it was a million plus views, Republic Day was 3-4 million views. That is the general trend. This will take it to the next level altogether," he said.

Asked if the tie-up with Google was part of Prasar Bharati's efforts to reach out to younger people, Vempati said the dominant sentiment about Doordarshan was nostalgia. With the younger generation having no real brand experience of

Doordarshan, this was one way of making them familiar with it, he said.

"We have dramatically increased our digital presence. We have now 37 plus active Youtube channels which are uploading content from across the country, different languages, different regions.

"We have 250 plus Twitter handles across the network of all our regional news stations, All India Radio stations, Doordarshan Kendras. All of them are actively uploading on social media. This is part of our broader effort for a digital connect," the Prasar Bharati CEO said.

The Prime Minister's speech will be aired on All India Radio in about 20 different languages through the day, he said.

Vempati said a new version of the All India Radio news android application has also been launched which not only has the news bulletin in all the 20 plus languages and the livestream of the various All India Radio stations, but also has AIR's external services.

With the younger generation having no real brand experience of Doordarshan, this was one way of making them familiar with it, he said.

The row over allotment of burial space for DMK chief M Karunanidhi shows no signs of abating, with party leader M K Stalin today saying he literally 'pleaded' with Chief Minister K Palaniswami for space on the Marina beach front.

The government, on its part, maintained that its decision to allot burial space for the Dravidian stalwart elsewhere was taken considering legal issues, but asserted it gave "unprecedented respect" to the leader by ensuring state honours.

Stalin, DMK working president, said he decided not to pay heed to his senior colleagues' suggestion that he need not meet Palaniswami to make a plea on the issue and that they would do the job.

"I was prepared to lose my dignity and honour for the sake of Thalaivar (leader--Karunanidhi) and met the chief minister where we made our case (for space at Marina).

"He cited rules to say it was not possible and that even legal opinion was in this regard," he said at an urgent meeting of the DMK executive committee to mourn Karunanidhi's demise.

"I told (the CM) that legal advisers will only reflect the government...I literally pleaded with the chief minister, holding his hands, and asked his support for us in fulfilling our Thalaivar's desire (of being buried near the Anna memorial)," he said.

DMK founder CN Annadurai, fondly addressed as Anna, is the mentor of Karunanidhi from whom the latter took over the reins of the party and the government after his death in 1969.

A grim-faced Stalin, who broke down occasionally while reminiscing about his father, said Palaniswami "did not oblige and just said the matter will be considered to see us off."

Later, the state government announced allocating space near the memorials of former chief ministers C Rajagopalachari and K Kamaraj at Guindy, following which DMK knocked at the court door, he said.

Stalin credited the DMK's legal wing for securing a favourable verdict in the case.

The DMK working president said his father had endured so many struggles with success, adding "even after his death he won".

Reacting to the criticism, the ruling AIADMK said the government could not initially allot space at the Marina beach for burying the DMK leader due to pending cases against construction of memorials on the famous sands.

Senior party leader and state Fisheries minister D Jayakumar said an AIADMK delegation led by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam had earlier visited Karunanidhi's residence at Gopalapuram to enquire about his health when he was ill and that it was a matter of "political decency."

"We later paid respects (to his mortal remains) led by the chief Minister at Rajaji Hall. On behalf of the government, I had participated in his burial on the direction of the chief minister," he told reporters.

The government had offered land elsewhere as possible legal issues could crop up with his body lying in state, but "we accepted the court order," directing the government to allot space at the Marina, he added.

Adequate police protection was provided even during Karunanidhi's hospitalisation and his susbequent death, Jayakumar said.

"The Amma (Jayalalithaa) government provided him unprecedented respect by ensuring state honours," he said.

Jayakumar said criticism against the government would have been fair only if it had not allotted burial space at the Marina for Karunanidhi even if there were no cases.

The government showed "no political vendetta," in this matter, he said.

Taking on DMK's ally Congress on the matter, he said even former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao was not cremated in Delhi after his death.

Stalin, DMK working president, said he decided not to pay heed to his senior colleagues' suggestion that he need not meet Palaniswami to make a plea on the issue and that they would do the job.

Australia has resumed adoption of children from India after five years, a senior official with the Women and Child Development Ministry said today.

It was enforced after a woman reportedly adopted an Indian child and abandoned her in Australia, prompting the Australian government to suspend adoptions from India, the official said.

"The ministry was in constant touch with the Australian government to relent and allow adoptions from India and they have finally agreed," the official said.

The suspension was reportedly lifted after five years, he said.

A total of 651 inter-country adoptions from India were recorded in 2017-18.

According to the Special Broadcasting Service in Australia, Assistant Minister for Children and Families David Gillespie confirmed the news and said the recommendation was to start with small numbers.

"We don't want to see child trafficking, we don't want to see children that aren't getting what they deserve. That is a permanent, safe, caring home," Mr Gillespie was quoted by the SBS News as saying.

A year after Chinese troops intruded in the Doklam region, the soldiers from the People's Liberation Army again infringed around the 300-400 metres inside the Demchok sector of eastern Ladakh.

Demchok which stretches from eastern Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh is one of the 23 "disputed and sensitive areas" identified on the Line of Actual Control.

The region witnesses frequent "transgressions and troop faceoffs" between the two armies.

Indian and China share a border of 4,057 km along the Line of Actual Control.

The PLA army intruded and placed around five tents in the region. The security establishments confirmed on Monday that three of those tents were removed in the Cherdong- Nerlong Nallan area after the armies of the two sides held talks.

The two other tents with some Chinese troops are still present in the region.

A media report cited sources as saying that the Chinese military intruded in the Indian territory in the garb of nomads with cattle in tow in July.

According to media reports, over 170 transgressions have been recorded by the Chinese Army in 2018. While in 2016, the number was 273 and in 2017 a total of 426 such incidents were reported.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Union of India to draft a child protection policy amidst the ongoing&nbsp;Muzaffarpur shelter home case.&nbsp;

The alleged sex scandal in Muzaffarpur surfaced in April&nbsp;in a social audit conducted by Mumbai-based Tata Institute of Social Sciences. More than 30 girls had been lodged at the shelter home and medical reports suggest that over half of them may have had sexual intercourse at some point of time.

An FIR was lodged by the state social welfare department in June, which led to the arrest of 10 people. The NGO running the shelter home has been blacklisted and all the girls have been moved to shelter homes in other districts while the premises has been sealed.

On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) released the main accused in the case Brajesh Thakur's son Rahul Anand, after he was detained in connection with the case.&nbsp;

Brajesh Thakur, who is in jail, heads the NGO Seva Sankalp Evam Vika Samiti, which ran the state-funded shelter home where sexual abuse of more than 30 inmates has been confirmed in medical tests.

Kumar also ordered that adequate security arrangements should be made at the shelter homes to order to ensure the safety of the inmates.

China's unmanned submersible Qianlong 2 has found polymetallic sulphide deposits in the sea bed of western Indian Ocean after operating for 257 hours in nine separate underwater missions and covering 654 km of the water body, a state-run media reported here today.&nbsp

Chinese research vessel Xiangyanghong 10 reached Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province on Sunday after 250 days in the Indian Ocean, where Chinese scientists surveyed the distribution of polymetallic sulphide for the first time, covering southwest and northwest region of the water body.

The autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) operated for 257 hours in nine separate underwater missions and covered 654 km, the Global Times quoted from the statement of China's Ministry of Natural Resources.&nbsp

The AUV discovered polymetallic sulphide, a mineral resource produced from seafloor hydrothermal activities, the report said.&nbsp

Deep seabed polymetallic sulphide contains iron, copper, zinc, silver, gold and platinum in variable constitutions and have attracted worldwide attention for their long term commercial as well as strategic values.&nbsp

Qianlong 2 discovered three mineralisation zones of polymetallic sulphide, the report said.&nbsp

In 2011, China had entered into a deal with the International Seabed Authority for a polymetallic sulphide exploration area of 10,000 sq km in the Indian Ocean for 15 years.&nbsp

Since then it has been sending periodic expedition to locate polymetallic sulphide in the sea bed.&nbsp

China also plans to put three satellites to improve maritime research, the report said.&nbsp

In the past five years, China has expanded its international seabed mining scope to 86,000 square km.&nbsp
