At least 13 people were killed in Bangladesh and India after cyclone Bulbul lashed coastal areas this weekend, though prompt evacuations saved many lives and the worst was over, officials said on Sunday.

Five of the six victims in Bangladesh were killed by falling trees, including a 52-year old woman who had spent the night in a shelter. She returned home on Sunday and was killed when a tree crashed onto her house.

Another victim, a 60-year old fisherman, had refused to evacuate.

Some 30 people were injured and around 6,000 homes were partially or fully damaged, Bangladeshi authorities said.

Two fishing boats have not yet returned and relatives have been unable to contact the roughly 36 men on board, added Anwar Uddin, a local public representative in the southern Bhola district.

No major damage was immediately reported in camps in southeast Bangladesh where hundreds of thousands of refugees from neighbouring Myanmar are living.

In India's state of West Bengal, seven people were killed, Javed Khan, the state's minister for disaster management told reporters on Sunday evening.

India's meteorological department said the cyclone was expected to weaken but warned fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next 12 hours.

Some 2 million people from all of Bangladesh's 13 coastal districts huddled in about 5,558 shelters on Saturday night. Outside, wind speeds rose to between 100 and 120 km per hour (62-75 mph), and some low-lying coastal areas were flooded.

Wind speeds have now come down to between 70 and 80 kph (43-50 mph), authorities said.

"It may take a couple of days to get a normal situation," Enamur Rahman, junior minister for disaster management and relief, told Reuters.

About 1,200 predominantly domestic tourists were stuck on St. Martin's Island, part of the Cox's Bazar district, Rahman said. "All of them will be rescued," he said.

The political deadlock in the Indian state of Maharashtra may come to an end soon. According to sources, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is ready to lend support to the Shiv Sena to form a government.

Reports say the final call will be taken in a day or two. It is believed that the deal between NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray has almost been finalised.

Sources say that the Congress party will lend outside support to the alliance.

The final decision, however, will be taken by Congress high command.

The latest reports come as the Governor has asked the Bharatiya Janata Party, the single largest party in the Maharashtra assembly, to make a decision regarding government formation.

The BJP and Shiv Sena, who are partners in the ruling alliance in Maharashtra, had fought the assembly polls together. While the BJP bagged 105 seats, Shiv Sena won 56 seats in the 288-member Vidhan Sabha. Shiv Sen also has the support of 7 independents.

The majority mark in Maharashtra is 144. With NCP's 54 seats and congress' 44, the tally of the alliance will reach 162- easily crossing the majority mark.

Even after getting the required numbers to form the government, there has been a delay in cobbling up a coalition owing to differences between the two parties on power-sharing.

Shiv Sena has insisted that the two parties had a '50-50' power-sharing agreement before the elections. But Devendra Fadnavis, former chief minister of Maharashtra, has said that Shiv Sena was not promised the chief ministerial post for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was sealed before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday said that the patience and peace maintained by the people in the country after the Ayodhya verdict revealed the strength of brotherhood in the nation.

"The patience and peace showed by the people after Ayodhya verdict shows that there is tolerance, harmony and brotherhood in the country and no one can break it. Everyone has welcomed this verdict and a very old case has been settled now," Naqvi told ANI.

He also said that there was no need to worry about All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi's statements expressing dissatisfaction on the Supreme Court verdict.

"Some people have the habit of speaking differently on any topic. Isolated voices like Asaduddin Owaisi should not be taken as the basis for judgment. 130 crore including Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and others have welcomed the verdict," Naqvi said.

Earlier on Saturday, Owaisi had said that he was not satisfied with the apex court verdict and said the "Supreme Court is indeed supreme but not infallible".

Speaking to media persons, Owaisi said, "I am not satisfied with the verdict. The Supreme Court is indeed supreme but not infallible. We have full faith in the Constitution. We were fighting for our legal rights. We do not need five-acre land as a donation."

Owaisi said that he concurred with the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) that they were not satisfied with the verdict.

Speaking about the Sunni Waqf Board's decision of not filing a review petition, Naqvi added, "It is good that they have decided not to go for a review of the Supreme Court decision as it was a unanimous verdict by the bench."

The Supreme Court on Saturday directed the Central government to hand over the disputed site at Ayodhya for the construction of a temple and set up a trust for the same.

The apex court further directed the government to give a suitable plot of land measuring five acres to the Sunni Waqf Board.

A five-judge constitution bench presided by Chief Justice Gogoi and comprising Justices SA Bobde, DY Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer passed the order on a batch of petitions against an order of the Allahabad High Court which trifurcated the site among the parties -- Ramlalla Virajman, Sunni Central Waqf Board and Nirmohi Akhara.

A decades-long legal dispute was fought by right-wing party Hindu Mahasabha, a sect of Hindu monks Nirmohi Akhara and Sunni Waqf Board over 2.77 acres of land in Ayodhya.

The SC upheld the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) report, which concluded that a temple existed at the dispute site.
