People in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra received a huge monsoon shocker when they spotted a massive crocodile taking a stroll on the busy roads at night. The reptile was caught on camera sliding through in the Chiplun area. Heavy rains have been recorded in the coastal region of Ratnagiri, and people suspect that the crocodile resides in the nearby Shiva River.
The video of the eight-foot-long reptile was reportedly captured by an autorickshaw driver in the Chinchnaka area of Chiplun. The animal seemed fine and not at all distressed at beingaway from home.
Ratnagiri has been witnessing incessant rainfall for the past few days and the India Meteorological Department has forecast similar showers to continue till at least July 2 in the region.
Notably, Ratnagiri is home to the Marsh Crocodiles, also known as 'Muggers'. India is overall home to three types of crocodiles - the Muggers, the saltwater crocodile and the gharial.

A few weeks back, aten-foot crocodile crawled out of a canal in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. People panicked and took video of the reptile who looked visiblydistressed as it tried to climb off a railing and back into the water.
However, it failed to go past the fence and scurried on the land. Officials later rescued the animal after a tough operation and released it back into the canal.
