The Indian space agency ISRO's twin satellites completed space docking for the second time on Sunday, 20th April, at 8:20 pm Indian time. This second docking further validates the software, sensors, and techniques that ISRO has devised to perform a "space handshake" between two satellites that are travelling at over 28,000 kmph around the Earth. During the first docking in January 2025, electrical power transfer between the two docked satellites was not done, and this time we have done it successfully, said the ISRO Chief. "Power transfer from SDX 02 to SDX 01 satellite, as well as vice versa, was also exercised and accomplished on Monday, 21st April, 2025. The experiment involved operating a heater element in one of the satellites through power from the other satellite. The duration of power transfer was approximately 4 minutes, and the performance of the satellites was as expected," ISRO elaborated.
A few weeks back, we also demonstrated the circumnavigation process, where one satellite moves around and inspects the other. Therefore, all planned objectives of the Space Docking Experiment(SPADEX) mission have been accomplished successfully, Dr. Narayanan said.&nbsp;
Queried about the further course of action with the twin SPADEX satellites, he said that both satellites have about 50 per cent fuel remaining and that multiple experiments can be performed in the coming times. Cargo is also delivered to the space station in a similar fashion. Likewise, docking can enable the transfer of fuel between two spacecraft, thereby extending the life of the recipient craft.&nbsp;
<h2>Why is Space docking so complicated?&nbsp;</h2>
When a chaser spacecraft is approaching the target spacecraft, the relative velocity between the two(the difference in velocity between the two) must be controlled very carefully. If the relative velocity is too high, the docking attempt can fail, causing damage or collisions. If it is too low, it may take too long to complete the approach, which could lead to fuel loss or mission delays.
When the spacecraft docks, their relative velocity must be near-zero. This means that the two spacecraft must be moving at the same velocity and in the same direction at the time of docking to ensure a smooth connection without any impact forces. This requires careful coordination and manoeuvring, all done fully autonomously.

The government in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu approved its Space Industrial Policy, positioning the state as a hub for space innovation, high-value manufacturing and tech-driven job creation. State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa outlined that the Policy is built on three pillars: attracting investments of ₹10,000 crore into Tamil Nadu&rsquo;s space sector, creating at least 10,000 high-value jobs, and building a future-ready skilled workforce in space technologies and services.
This policy is not just for manufacturing, it will also focus on space-tech services and downstream innovation. This will open doors for startups, MSMEs and large players alike, Rajaa added. For firms establishing their facilities and investing in the Space Bays, the Government will provide wage subsidies: 30 per cent for the first year, 20 per cent for the second and 10 per cent for the third. The SSLV rocket has had three flights so far and has completed what ISRO terms the 'development phase'. Henceforth, the vehicle will perform operational missions. While the existing spaceport at Sriharikota is ideal for launching heavier rockets towards the east (equatorial orbits), a major challenge crops up when launching ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle and similar small rockets. When a rocket travels towards the South Pole from Sriharikota, the rocket would have to overfly the island nation of Sri Lanka. Given the immense risk of overflying a country, India's rockets are programmed to perform a manoeuvre to avoid the Lankan landmass. OpenAI's ChatGPT tool had recently added the feature that instantly transforms user-fed photos to Ghibli-style animations. Using this feature, selfies, family portraits, and iconic images are being made into Ghibli-style art, which have flooded social media and instant messaging platforms.&nbsp;

The concern is, users cannot easily delete the submitted photo. In case of image uploads, there is no guaranteed way to request deletion.
Further, it was warned that many websites offering free downloads of Ghibli art or other media are fronts for malicious cyber activities. "Users who download content from these sources may unwittingly infect their devices with harmful software, including viruses, malware, or ransomware, leading to potential data loss and identity theft. Scammers may use popular Ghibli characters and art as bait in phishing scams. These fraudulent campaigns often involve fake contests, giveaways, or free download links for Ghibli art. Clicking on these links can lead to the theft of personal data, financial information, or even financial losses," reads the statement from the Police.&nbsp;
Police have also warned netizens against unsolicited emails, messages or links that offer free Ghibli content. The advisory strongly recommended that users must check the legitimacy of websites and social media profiles before engaging in transactions or sharing information. It was also mentioned that downloadable Ghibli-themed wallpapers, art packs, or content may contain malware or ransomware. Once installed, these malicious programs can compromise devices, steal sensitive data, or lock user files.

Amid summer, weather system brews in Bay of Bengal

Since August 2024, Indian Air Force fighter pilots-turned-Indian astronaut candidates Group Captains Shubhanshu Shukla and Prashanth Balakrishnan Nair have trained at the human spaceflight centres in the US, Japan, and Europe. This was in preparation for the American commercial mission Axiom-4, scheduled for launch in May 2025, that will see an Indian astronaut (Shukla) returning to space after 41 years. Shukla will be the first Indian astronaut to fly to the International Space Station, an orbiting lab that is 425 km above the earth.
Responding to questions from WION&rsquo;s Sidharth.M.P, veteran American astronaut Peggy Whitson, who leads the Axiom-4 mission elaborated on the training undertaken by the Indian duo.

Whitson, who also serves as the Director of Human Spaceflight at the American firm, said, Axiom Space mission astronauts undergo training set by us, NASA, SpaceX, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and European Space Agency (ESA) to prepare them for missions to low Earth-orbit (LEO) and operations aboard the International Space Station. These training programmes ensure the crew is adept at functioning within the space station&rsquo;s multinational environment and to efficiently and successfully execute their mission tasks onboard.
An international partnership of space agencies provides and operates the elements of the space station, they are the space agencies of the United States, Russia, Europe, Japan, and Canada.
The training completed with the European Space Agency covers communications systems, emergency response procedures, and conducting research activities inside the Columbus module. This module, which is Europe&rsquo;s contribution to the International Space Station, allows researchers on the ground, aided by the station&rsquo;s crew, to conduct research in a weightless environment. In addition, experiments and applications can be conducted outside the module in the vacuum of space.

Experiments range from biology to physics to technology.
While both Indian candidates, Shukla and Nair, have undergone the aforementioned training, Shukla is the primary candidate for the Axiom-4 mission. However, the overall training and experience gathered by the Indian duo would benefit the fledgling Indian human spaceflight programme Gaganyaan, which aims to launch Indian astronauts to low earth orbit and bring them home safely. The Indian government has also outlined long-term plans to build a crewed space station and carry out crewed moon landings.
