UK MP Bob Blackman of the ruling Conservative Party in the country has written to chairman of the party, raising concerns against a group being announced in the party called "conservative friends of Kashmir" which may have long term implication, especially on the large Indian diaspora.

In the letter, he asked the party to make it clear officially that the group is "not an officially recognised body and has no links to the party" and therefore cannot use party logo or branding.

Highlighting the impact to the party, Bob in his letter to the Chairman of Conservative Party Amanda Milling said, "creation of this "conservative friends" group....risks alienating the diaspora that we have worked so hard and for so long, to cultivate and encourage to switch to our party. I cannot emphasize enough how emotive this issue is to our Indian diaspora."

Amanda Milling is the chairman of the conservative party along with Ben Elliot. The role of the chairman is party administration.

Bob elaborated that, "creation of the so-called conservative friends of Kashmir will cause severe tensions" between the already existing groups - conservative friends of India and conservative friends of Pakistan and "alienate a large percentage of voters".

The recent UK general elections saw the Indian diaspora shifting from Labour Party to the Conservative due to the former's stance on Kashmir. In fact, the decision taken at the Labour party conference on Kashmir, which was seen as considerably anti-India led to switching of allegiance of the British Indians to conservatives.

The UK MP said in the letter, "As we approach our Party's Conference this year, we must now follow the same path as the Labour party last year and risk alienating a large section of voters".

"Jammu and Kashmir is internationally recognized as a state of India and we do not have any other "conservative friends" that represent other areas of India...Party Policy is that security in Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter for India and you know that I have previously written to PM regarding the issue and he reiterated Party Policy on Jammu and Kashmir both in writing and also on the floor of the house of commons".

The official stance of the Conservative Party and UK government on Kashmir is that is bilateral matter between India and Pakistan.

Bob Blackman is the vice-chairman of the conservative friends of India and the chairman and vice-chairman of number of All-Party Parliamentary groups related to India.

India and Philippines have agreed to work on preferential trade agreement or PTA, which will reduce and eliminate tariffs on many products, as part of negotiations.

This was in fact, one of the key outcomes of the 13th Meeting of the India Philippines Joint Working Group on Trade and Investments (JWGTI). Sectors like--pharmaceuticals, IT, and Financial Technology could be the focus areas of the PTA.

Undersecretary at the Philippines trade office, Ceferino S Rodolfo at the meet said “a more focused approach like a PTA is more practical. The Philippines is eager to conclude one with India not only to improve current trade levels in terms of value and volume but also in the breadth of products to be covered as current trade is highly concentrated on a few products.”

Joint Secretary Anant Swarup in India's commerce ministry, concurring with him said, “India recognizes the benefits of negotiating a PTA with the Philippines” and called for both countries to "consult authorities and secure the mandate for the PTA negotiations."

To further the PTA negotiations, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indian Embassy in Manila, and Philippines Embassy in New Delhi organized a webinar on India-Philippines Enhancing Bilateral Economic and Trade Relationship on 25 September.

In 2018-19, India-Philippines trade was around $ 2.32 billion, with exports from India to the Philippines being at $ 1743 million and imports from the Philippines by India- US $ 581 million. In 2017-18 bilateral trade grew by nearly 25% to US$ 2.45 billion.

Recent years have seen an intensification of relationship, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the Philippines in 2017 for the 31st ASEAN and EAS Summits, followed by the visit of President Duterte to India in 2018 for India-ASEAN Commemorative Summit and Republic Day celebrations.

The Maldives received Dornier Maritime Surveillance aircraft by Indian Navy on Tuesday, which has been termed as a "colossal milestone" between the defence ties of the two countries.

The aircraft will help the country in Maritime & exclusive economic zone (EEZ) surveillance, humanitarian assistance, disaster and medical relief. It will be especially helpful for the Maldivians in the northern atolls and also identifying foreign vessels, something that has increased presence in the Indian Ocean Region.

Speaking exclusively to WION, Maldives Defense minister Mariya Didi said, "As a country with over 99 per cent of its territory covered by the sea we have always worked together with our friends across the ocean to protect our domestic interests from pirates, drug smugglers and poachers. Our national defence forces are the first responders in search and rescue operations and in providing humanitarian relief as per law and by duty."

"The request for a Dornier initiated by the former administration in 2016 which we saw materialize today will go a long way in increasing our capacity to tackle these challenges. It’s a colossal milestone in defence relations and adds a new chapter to the continued cooperation between our two countries."

All in all, the Dornier will in the command and control of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and will be flown with MNDF flag and colours. Maldivian pilots have been training on it since 2017.

Maldives National Defence Force release said it will be, "used in surveillance and monitoring of Maldivian waters, monitoring Maldivian maritime fishing grounds and identifying foreign vessels, in anti-drug (and other illegal substances) and human trafficking operations, as well as in search and rescue missions and to provide humanitarian assistance."

It was in 2016, that the request for a Dornier Maritime Surveillance aircraft was raised during the visit of the then President Yameen of the Maldives to India, after the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih government of Maldives was able to fast track it.

It comes even as India and Maldives have been doing joint surveillance of exclusive economic zone in which the aircraft will be helpful. Since 2009 both Maldivian Coast Guard and Indian Navy have conducted 54 joint aerial surveillance operations to safeguard Maldivian waters.

India has yet again highlighted that victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack & Pathankot terror attack are yet to get justice due to Pakistan's "non-cooperative" attitude.

Speaking at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Victims of terrorism, Secretary (East) Vijay Thakur Singh in ministry of external affairs said, “would like to highlight that, for example, the victims of 2008 Mumbai terror attack and 2016 Pathankot terror attack are yet to get justice."

Pointing at Pakistan said, “This is due to the unwillingness and non-cooperative attitude of a particular country."

Both the attacks were perpetrated by Pakistan based terror groups and despite India giving evidence of their involvement, Islamabad has taken on action against them.

Indian Diplomat said that "While terrorists can never succeed in achieving their nefarious objectives" they leave behind a "trail of death and destruction" & even, amidst the ongoing pandemic, "terrorism continues to pose a critical threat to international peace and security", stepping up the use of information technology "for propaganda and for issuing threats further exacerbating the stress on victims of terror."

India has been calling for a common definition of terror via CCIT or Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations. Proposed in 1996 by India, the draft remains stuck due to lack of consensus at the world body.

Secretary (East) elaborated on the impact of terrorism on women and children saying “Acts of terrorism not only violate the rights of individual victims but they also deeply affect the enjoyment of a range of rights by the families of the victims and society as a whole."

Adding," Measures aimed at addressing the needs of the victims of terrorism, therefore, should factor in the sensitivities of these vulnerable sections of the society. Efforts should also be made to work with the victims to build a counter narrative against the hateful propaganda of terrorism."

Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism was launched last year by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Group is the initiative of the Permanent Missions of Afghanistan and Spain to the United Nations, and has 24 Member States including India. UN Office of Counter-Terrorism & UN Office on Drugs and Crime are observer members of the grouping.

Worst clashes have broken out between Christian Majority Armenia and Muslim majority Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh, a dispute dating back 2 decades-- a remnant of Soviet legacy.

Nagorno-Karabakh is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan but has ethnic Armenian a majority. And global reactions have been pouring in and threatens to draw Moscow which backs Armenia and Turkey that back Azerbaijan into the conflict.

As always, South Asia has its own views about. India has good ties with both Armenia and Azerbaijan. The North-South international transport corridor goes from Mumbai to Chabahar via Azerbaijan to Moscow, something crucial for India's connectivity plans.

Infact, in 2018, the then Indian External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had visited fire time in Baku. The temple was once used by Hindu and Zoroastrian communities, probably by visiting merchants from India as a place of worship.

But when it comes to Armenia, it backs India on some key several fronts. Last year in response to a WION question in New York on the sidelines of United Nations general assembly that Turkey has been raking Kashmir, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said,"In the Kashmir issue we fully defend the Indian position and it is our firm position."

Pakistani foreign ministry said, "Pakistan is deeply concerned on the deteriorating security situation in Nagorno-Karabakh region. The intensive shelling by Armenian forces over the weekend on civilian populations of Azerbaijani villages of Terter, Aghdam, Fizuli and Jabrayil region is reprehensible and most unfortunate."

Adding," Pakistan stands with the brotherly nation of Azerbaijan and supports its right of self-defence. We support Azerbaijan’s position on Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in line with the several unanimously adopted UN Security Council resolutions."

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his virtual summit with Denmark's PM Mette Frederiksen called for diversification of global supply chain, and without taking China's name highlighted how risky it has been to be dependent on a "single source".

Explaining, "It's not without reason that Pakistan remains a safe harbour for terrorists. While the world is busy combatting Covid-19 pandemic, Pakistan hoodwinks the world to allow delisting more than 4000 proscribed terrorists to sustain its terror ecosystem."

The statement comes even as Pakistan's fate will be decided at Financial Action Task Force or FATF in October, where it remains on the grey list. Failing to full fill its anti-terror commitments means, it could be blacklisted next month.

Indian diplomat pointed to how the country is changing the demographics of Pakistan occupied Kashmir where he said, "Pakistan’s deceit and hypocrisy is best demonstrated when it orchestrated mass influx to Pakistan Occupied parts of Indian Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh through discriminatory domicile laws".

Adding, "Its baffling that there are 3 outsiders for every 4 in Pakistan Occupied parts of Indian Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh" and cited imprisonment of political activist like baba jan for raising voice.

The comments assume significance as Pakistan plans to declare Pakistan occupied Kashmir's Gilgit Baltistan as the 5th province of the country.

India statement focused on the situation of minorities in the country, terming the country as "killing field for minorities" especially when "fate of religious and ethnic minorities is well known when beheading is the only option in Pakistan in exchange for the freedom of religion."

Pawan said, Pakistan has "institutionalized enforced disappearance" and has become "minefield for journalists and human rights defenders".

In a strongly worded rebuttal, India slammed Pakistani Prime minister Imran Khan for his anti-India remarks in United Nations General Assembly(UNGA) speech, highlighting Islamabad's support for terror and religious persecution.

Indian diplomat, Mijito Vinito snubbed Imran Khan's speech by walking out from UNGA hall.

India's diplomat at Indian mission to United Nations in New York, Vinito said during the right to reply: "This is the same country that provides pensions for dreaded and listed terrorists out of State funds" and the "same country that has the dubious distinction of hosting the largest number of terrorists proscribed by the United Nations".

He recalled how Imran Khan had referred to terrorist Osama Bin Laden as a “martyr” in the Pakistani Parliament in July and last year had admitted that his country has about 30,000-40,000 terrorists and have fought in Afghanistan and in the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

On religious persecution, the Indian diplomat said, "This is the country that has systematically cleansed its minorities including Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and others, through the abuse of its blasphemy laws and through forced religious conversions."

"The only crowning glory that this country has to show to the world for the last 70 years is terrorism, ethnic cleansing, majoritarian fundamentalism, and clandestine nuclear trade," he said.

Reminding Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir is an "integral and inalienable part of India", he said, "What should rather be on the agenda of the UN is Pakistan’s deep state and its unrelenting political and financial support to terrorist organizations and mercenaries which are a threat to global peace and security."

Earlier, Indian envoy to UN, T. S. Tirumurti strongly reacted to Khan's speech tweeting that it is "a new diplomatic low". Indian PM Narendra Modi will address the UNGA later today at 6:30 pm.
