The Kerala-based activist Rehana Fathima, who caught the attention with a 2020 video in which she was seen partially nude with paintings, got relief in a POCSO case on Monday. The Kerala High Court acquitted her, emphasising that the right to autonomy over one’s body is often denied to the fairer sex and they are bullied, discriminated against, isolated and persecuted for making choices about their bodies.

In 2020, a video of Fathima went viral, showing her partially nude with paintings done by her minor children on her body. Eventually, she was arrested and her bail applications were repeatedly denied.

Who is Rehana Fathima?

Rehana Fathima is an Indian women’s rights activist from Kerala. She also has a background in telecommunications and modelling. She has been vocal against women’s moral policing and has participated in various protests against sexism.

Fathima gained widespread attention in October 2018 when she was one of the two women who attempted to enter the Sabarimala temple in Kerala following the Supreme Court’s decision to lift the ban on women of menstruating age. She has faced legal consequences for her activism, including arrests for allegedly offensive Facebook posts.

She belongs to an orthodox Muslim family and she pursued her B.Com and MCA degrees from Indira Gandhi National Open University.

In 2014, she participated in the controversial ‘Kiss of Love’ protest in Kochi against moral policing along with her partner Manoj K Sreedhar.

What was the ‘nudity’ case?

After her 2020 video went viral, she was subsequently arrested. In her appeal in the Kerala High Court, Fathima asserted that the body paintings in the video were meant as a political statement against the default view of society that the upper body of the female is sexualised. She argued that the male body is treated differently and is not objectified or sexualised.

In the past, she was also booked by police in the Pathanamthitta district under the Information Technology Act and the Juvenile Justice Act on a complaint lodged by BJP OBC Morcha leader AV Arun Prakash.

What did Kerala High Court say?

While discharging Fathima, Kerala High Court Justice Kauser Edappagath on Monday said from the allegations against the 37-year-old activist, it was not possible for anyone to infer that her children were used for any real or simulated sexual acts and that too for sexual gratification.

The judge said it was "harsh" to term such an "innocent artistic expression" as a usage of a child in a real or simulated sexual act. "There is nothing to show that the children were used for pornography. There is no hint of sexuality in the video. Painting on the naked upper body of a person, whether a man or a woman, cannot be stated to be a sexually explicit act," the court said.

It further said that nude display of the upper body of men is never considered obscene or indecent and is not sexualised, but "a female body is not treated in the same way".

Inspiration behind the triangular design of the new Parliament building

Patel said the new Parliament House was designed triangular since it sits on a triangular plot. "The new Parliament building was designed in a triangular shape since it sits on a triangular plot and has three main spaces Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and a Central Lounge. Also, triangles are sacred geometries in various religions and cultures of the country. The Sri Yantra uses a triangle, the three Gods or the Trinities are a triangle and therefore the triangle is sacred," Patel was quoted as saying in a report by Moneycontrol.

"The new Parliament building was designed in a triangular shape since it sits on a triangular plot and has three main spaces Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and a Central Lounge. India: Who is Bimal Patel? Ace architect who designed the new Parliament building

The United Conservative Party's populist leader Danielle Smith won the Alberta provincial elections in Canada on Monday (May 29). Smith's remarkable win over New Democratic Party (NDP)'s Rachel Notley will help secure another four years in power for her in Canada's largest oil-producing region.

Right after the election results were announced, Smith fired warning shots at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over climate change.

Smith is fiercely opposed to a Liberal plan to cap oil and gas emissions, arguing it will lead to a production cut and the federal goal of a net-zero electricity grid by 2035.

She used her victory speech in Calgary to take aim at Trudeau.

"My fellow Albertans we need to come together no matter how we have voted to stand shoulder to shoulder against soon-to-be-announced Ottawa policies that would significantly harm our provincial economy," Smith said.

Smith's victory came after an election campaign that was upended by wildfires that raged across Alberta.

Alberta's Climate Politics

Trudeau's government is aiming to cut carbon emissions up to 40-45 per cent by 2030. This aim can only be achieved when there will be significant reductions from Alberta, which is the highest-polluting province.

Smith's key promise in this election was to pass the Alberta Sovereignty Act. The act would let the provincial government opt out of enforcing federal legislation it deemed not to be in the province’s interests.

Alberta's oil sector produces the majority of Canada's 4.9 million barrels of crude oil per day.

Smith called on Trudeau to stop these climate policies, warning he would "strain the patience and goodwill of Canadians in an unprecedented fashion".

In a note published last week, BMO Capital Markets analyst Jared Dziuba said the UCP is committed to decarbonisation, but at a slower pace and lower cost than the NDP would have been.

In the Alberta election, counting of votes took much longer than usual, with the result being called by television networks more than three hours after polls closed. Elections Alberta, the official body responsible for administering the election, said some voting locations closed late to accommodate all voters in line.

What Danielle Smith’s comeback means for Canada

The UCP's victory cements a shift to the right in Alberta politics. Canada's western province was always known for being the bastion of conservative politics. But Smith also garnered support from a growing Alberta populist movement prompted by opposition to pandemic-era public health restrictions and distrust of the federal government in Ottawa.

During the election campaign, the UCP promised to enact a law ensuring governments cannot raise personal or income taxes without approval from Albertans in a referendum.

The government is also looking into policies like Alberta exiting the Canadian Pension Plan and replacing the national Royal Canadian Mounted Police with a provincial force.

The massively popular game is now available for download for gamers in India on Google Play Store and Apple Store for both iOS and Android users. The game developer has introduced a new map, weapons, free outfits, and in-game events in the latest version.

BGMI 2.5 new features

India’s most popular game is back with amazing updates:

Nusa- a tropical thrill resort

Under new features, the new and smallest map, Nusa, which is a tropical resort island, is gaining the maximum attention. This map condenses the match into a speedy, eight-minute spectacle filled with zip lines, elevators and ATVs.

Classic map upgrades

The new version will give you a better experience with improved textures, like that of Livik waterfall and newly added supply shops in Miramar, Vikendi, and Sanhok.

An 'invite' option in Spawn Island, a sound visualisation function, and much more. It doesn't end here, CYCLE 4 SEASON11 showed exciting rewards like sunglasses, masks, parachutes and pink level full set resources.

Safeguarding user experience

BGMI 2.5 is now promoting a responsible gaming experience. One such amazing feature is that it capped play time to three hours for gamers less than 18 years and six hours for others. The feature of parental verification and spending limit for minors continues.

BGMI is a survival shooter game in which up to 100 players compete in a battle royale, a type of large-scale last-man-standing death match in which players compete to be the last one standing. Players can enter the match as individuals or as small groups of up to four.
