A bolt of lightning struck Earth with building blocks of life: Study

<p>It is normal for Earthlings to expect the Moon to shine high in the night sky but what if it disappears after drifting away from the Earth?&nbsp;</p>

<p>A new study has found that the Moon is slowly moving away from the Earth and it is likely to change the relationship between the planet and its only natural satellite.</p>

<h2><strong>How is the drifting of the Moon impacting Earth?</strong></h2>

<p>According to scientists, the drifting of the Moon has been impacting the length of days on Earth, although at a very slow rate.</p>

<p>As the Moon continues to move away from the Earth in a span of millions of years, it is making an average day's length longer.</p>

<p>A team at the University of Wisconsin-Madison carried out a study in which they focused on how rocks were formed 90 million years ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In this study, the scientists analysed the interactions of Earth with the Moon nearly 1.4 billion years ago.</p>

<p>It was found that the Moon is going 3.82 centimetres away from Earth every year. This will eventually lead to Earth days extending to 25 hours after 200 million years.&nbsp;</p>

UFO hovering in Spain? Tourists spot mysterious disc flying for seconds in sky

<p>The sudden and devastating terror attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7 gave Israel what it called its "9/11 moment". The mastermind who planned this massive assault and gave&nbsp;the operation the name "Al Aqsa Flood" was Mohammed Deif, a Palestinian militant and Israel's most wanted man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As Hamas fired thousands of rockets from the Gaza strip on Saturday (Oct 7), an audio tape broadcast used the phrase Israel's most wanted man which clearly hinted that the attack was a retaliation for raids carried out at Jerusalem's Al Aqsa mosque by Israel.</p>

<h2><strong>Planning Operation Al Aqsa Flood&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>In May 2021, after an Israeli raid carried out on Al Aqsa mosque enraged the Arab and Muslim world, Deif started planning the operation this past weekend, which led to the killing of 1,200 Israelis and injured more than 2,700, as per Reuters.</p>

<p>"It was triggered by scenes and footage of Israel storming Al Aqsa mosque during Ramadan, beating worshippers, attacking them, dragging elderly and young men out of the mosque. All this fuelled and ignited the anger," stated a source in Gaza.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Deif, who has survived seven Israeli assassination attempts - the most recent to have taken place in 2021 - speaks rarely and has never appeared in public. However, on Saturday he spoke to the Palestinians through Hamas' TV channel, signalling something significant was to take place.</p>

<p>"Today the rage of Al Aqsa, the rage of our people and nation is exploding. Our mujahedeen (fighters), today is your day to make this criminal understand that his time has ended," Deif was heard saying in the recording.</p>

<p>In the public domain, only three images of Deif are available - one in his 20s, another of him masked, and the third one is the image of his shadow, which the TV used when broadcasting the audio tape.</p>

<p>The militant's whereabouts are unknown, although he is most likely staying inside Gaza under the enclave. An Israeli security source stated that Deif had direct involvement in the operational and planning aspects of the attack.</p>

<p>As per reports, one of the homes hit in the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza belonged to the father of Deif. Deif's two other family members and brother were killed in the attack.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Two brains, but one mastermind of attack</strong></h2>

<p>Deif, the commander of Hamas' Al Qassam Brigades and Yehya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, took the decision to plan and execute the attack, according to reports.<br />
<br />
However, Deif was said to be the architect of the attack. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Addressing the people in a calm voice, Deif, in his recording, said that Israel has been repeatedly warned by Hamas to end its crimes against Palestinians and release the prisoners, who he claimed were tortured and abused, and to stop its expropriation of Palestinian land.</p>

<p>"Every day the occupation storm our villages, towns and cities in the West Bank and raid houses, kill, injure, destroy and detain. At the same time, it confiscates thousands of acres of our land, uproots our people from their houses to build settlements while its criminal siege continues on Gaza," he said.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
Deif stated that Hamas had appealed to the international community to stop the "crimes of the occupation", however, Israel continued to increase its provocation. He further stated that Hamas in the past had appealed to Israel to finalise a humanitarian deal for releasing Palestinian prisoners, however, this was rejected.</p>

<p>Israel arrested Deif in1989 after which he spent about 16 months in detention, said a Hamas source, reported Reuters.</p>

<p>Deif completed a degree in science from the Islamic University in Gaza, where he studied biology, chemistry and physics.&nbsp;</p>

Explained: Who was Mohammed Deif? The Hamas mastermind behind brutal attack on Israel

The breathtaking northern lights dazzled in the night skies of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia as social media platforms were flooded with mesmerising images.

The breathtaking northern lights dazzled in the night skies of the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia as social media platforms were flooded with mesmerising images. A “strong geomagnetic storm watch" was earlier issued by the Space Weather Prediction Center of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for July 29-31. Meanwhile, Australia also witnessed a dazzling display of southern lights in the skies after the powerful geomagnetic storm and more spectacular auroras are expected tonight. Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology stated that geomagnetic activity can lead to the sparkling of auroras in the skies of Australia's southern states from July 29 to 31. Also Read: Earth witnessed never-ever-seen 'polar rain' aurora. Here's how this eerie glow was formed “Several coronal mass ejections may impact Earth within the next 24 hours, possibly causing G1 and G2 geomagnetic storming with a slight chance for G3,” stated the agency. “If geomagnetic activity does eventuate, aurora may be visible during local nighttime hours in Tasmania and southern Victoria on July 31," it added. The NOAA said that solar activity peaked on Tuesday (Jul 30) as the Sun released solar flares and coronal mass ejections which hit the Earth and caused the auroras. Because of this, the auroras were visible as far south as Oregon and Illinois in the United States and also created aurora australis in the southern hemisphere. Here's how netizens reacted to the auroras Australian Minister Julie Collins posted a picture of the glowing aurora on X. “Even the aurora australis last night turned out in green and gold for our Olympians!” wrote Collins. Auroras were also seen in the skies of Australia on August 1, said the bureau, but at a “reduced probability”. “Amazing! #Aurora has dropped as far south as Wyoming, USA during this ongoing #solarstorm! This is an auspicious start to the multiple storm train we are expecting over the next few days," said a Space Weather Physicist. Between Iran and Gaza: How Israel pushed forward to decimate Hamas before Haniyeh's killing

<p>In a very interesting study, the scientists have claimed that the brains of the domestic dogs are comparatively smaller than those of their wild ancestors like the wolf.</p>

<p>The study, which has been published in Hungary, states that the brains of domestic dogs have become smaller because they have been kept in simpler environments where they are not required to use their brains like their wild counterparts.</p>

<p>Although the experts have stated that there can be other reasons behind the shrinking size of brains in domestic dogs, however, those have not been identified so far.</p>

<p>The scientists, however, have hinted that those species in the dog family living in the wild do not have a shrinking brain because of reasons like hibernation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The study was headed by László Zsolt Garamszegi from the Institute of Ecology and Botany, Centre for Ecological Research, Hungary.</p>

<p>"The dog is a canid species that was domesticated from its ancestral species the grey wolf at least 15,000 years ago," stated the team.</p>

<p>"Over 400 breeds of dogs exist today, and the overall pattern is that relative brain size is dramatically reduced in dogs as compared with the ancestral species, the grey wolf," it added.</p>

<h2><strong>Common raccoon dog is likely to have same brain size as that of wild dog: study</strong></h2>

<p>Researchers and vets have accepted this theory that the size of dog brains has shrunk because of domestication over centuries.&nbsp;</p>

In a very interesting study, the scientists have claimed that the brains of the domestic dogs are comparatively smaller than those of their wild ancestors like the wolf. The study, which has been published in Hungary, states that the brains of domestic dogs have become smaller because they have been kept in simpler environments where they are not required to use their brains like their wild counterparts. Although the experts have stated that there can be other reasons behind the shrinking size of brains in domestic dogs, however, those have not been identified so far. The scientists, however, have hinted that those species in the dog family living in the wild do not have a shrinking brain because of reasons like hibernation. "The dog is a canid species that was domesticated from its ancestral species the grey wolf at least 15,000 years ago," stated the team. "Over 400 breeds of dogs exist today, and the overall pattern is that relative brain size is dramatically reduced in dogs as compared with the ancestral species, the grey wolf," it added. Common raccoon dog is likely to have same brain size as that of wild dog: study Researchers and vets have accepted this theory that the size of dog brains has shrunk because of domestication over centuries. Humans are diminishing the brains of dogs. How? By petting them: Study

<p>The Sun is approaching its&nbsp;maximum which is leading to more solar flares and stronger geomagnetic storms hitting the Earth. In its 11-year-long cycle, the Sun reaches the peak of its activity which is called "approaching the maximum".</p>

<p>When it reaches the maximum, the Sun has more sunspots which releases more flares towards the Earth. These sunspots are comparatively colder regions on the surface of the Sun with especially intense magnetic field.</p>

<p>These extreme magnetic regions emit coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and solar flares. CMEs are huge waves of plasma (electrically charged particles) which are emitted by the Sun in interplanetary space at high speed.</p>
