While speaking about the tragic death of Ernest and Young's (EY) former employee Anna Sebastian Perayil, who apparently succumbed to work pressure, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday (Sep 22) called out the colleges and universities to provide “stress management lessons” to the students.

The death of 26-year-old Anna has taken the country by storm and has ignited a debate on the toxic work culture prevalent at some top consulting firms.

The debate started after the heart-wrenching letter of the 26-year-old's mother Anita Augustine went viral, in which she blamed Ernst & Young's toxic work culture for her daughter's death.

Speaking at an event organised in a college in Chennai, the finance minister said that the educational institutions apart from providing good education and campus placement, should also teach some other things.

FM Sitharaman said that she “…was discussing an issue that is in the news for the past two days…a woman who had studied CA well, unable to cope with the work pressure, two-three days ago we received a news — she died unable to cope up with the pressure.”

“I was discussing an issue that has been in newspapers for the past two days. Our children go to colleges and universities for education and come out with flying colours," she added.

She further emphasised that people can gain the strength to handle pressure by achieving divinity.

“Believe in God, we need to have God's grace. Seek God, and learn good discipline. Your Atma shakti will grow only from this. The inner strength will come only with growing Atma Shakti…Educational institutions should bring in divinity and spirituality. Then only will our children get the inner strength. It will help in their progress and the country. That is my strong belief,” the finance minister said.

EY employee death: FM Sitharaman says colleges should provide ‘stress management lessons’

The Taj Mahal, one of the wonders of the world and the postcard tourist place of India, has been in the headlines for water leakage from its dome and adjacent gardens getting inundated because of heavy rainfall.

But this is not the first time the alluring Taj Mahal has faced water woes because of heavy downpours.

The tomb was in similar conditions centuries ago when Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi and his visits to the tomb had somewhat declined.

The incident has been vividly captured by British author Fergus Nicoll in his book "Shah Jahan: The Rise And Fall Of The Mughal Emperor".

Shah Jahan's gaze shifts from Agra to Delhi

In his book, Nicoll explains that after "Agra was usurped as seat of the caliphate", the emperor made rare visits to the tomb.

Because of this, the tomb did not go through even basic maintenance. The dilapidated condition of the entire tomb complex was discovered by the then Mughal prince Aurangzeb - who was en route to the Deccan states in December 1652.

The prince had decided to halt in Agra and pay respect to the cenotaph of his mother but was shocked to see the Taj Mahal in bad condition less than 10 years after it was completed, as narrated by Nicoll in his book.

The prince is said to have noticed water leakage and cracks on the walls of the revered tomb and also inundation of the Mehtab Garden because of the flooding in the Yamuna River.

Aurangzeb's letter to Shah Jahan about the Taj Mahal's adverse conditions

Seeing the condition of the revered Taj Mahal, which once was his father's most cherished monument, the prince wrote a letter to the emperor informing him about the damage.

Here's the content of the letter written by Aurangzeb:

The buildings of this shrine enclosure of holy foundation are still firm and strong...except that the dome over the fragrant sepulchre leaks during the rainy season in two places on the north side. Likewise the four arched portals, several of the recessed alcoves on the second storey, the four small domes...have become dampened. The marble-covered terrace of the large dome has leaked in two or three places during this past rainy season and has been repaired. Let us see what happens in the coming rainy season...

Long-living protector! An extraordinary evil eye has struck this model of lofty buildings. If the rays of your august attention fall on the remedy to ward it off, it will be proper...

May the world-illuminating Sun of the Caliphate [Shah-Jahan] remain shining upon the heads of the people of the world!

This letter, which is dated December 9, 1652, was recorded in Ruka'at-i-Alamgiri. The last time Shah Jahan visited the tomb was on December 27, 1654, and he was accompanied by his son and heir apparent, Dara Shikoh.

Confirming this event to WION, professor Syed Ali Nadeem Rezavi, the author of Fathpur Sikri Revisited, said, "In the initial years after the building of the Taj, there were some leakages reported which find mention in the records. The problem was rectified and it never occurred again."

The life of Laura Murphy went upside down when her 31-year-old fiance Devon O'Grady died due to cardiac arrest.

After this tragic incident, she received a lot of support from her family and friends but still felt isolated in her grief.

The woman was 'feeling guilty' for not living her life and then she took the decision to go on a solo honeymoon, which was booked for England, "to see if life is still worth living".

Archaeologists have discovered six surfaces of rocks with designs carved on them that make them appear associated with ancient board games and explained how humans entertained themselves thousands of years ago.

Archaeologists have discovered six surfaces of rocks with designs carved on them that make them appear associated with ancient board games and explained how humans entertained themselves thousands of years ago. The six ancient board games were discovered by archaeologists at different sites on the Abşeron Peninsula and Gobustan Reserve in Azerbaijan. The rocks, which date around 2000 BCE, share a resemblance with the hallmark pattern on the basis of which has been created the ancient board game Hounds and Jackals. Also Read: Archaeologists unearth decapitated child from ‘vampire’ grave beneath a cathedral Earlier, the oldest example of the game was found in the tomb of a government official in ancient Egypt. Archaeologists try to trace origin of the game Archaeologists Walter Crist, who works at Leiden University in the Netherlands and Rahman Abdullayev of the Minnesota Historical Society, said that the new locations have challenged the origins of the game known as Fifty-Eight Holes. The game may have originated in southwestern Asia and not Egypt, as was previously believed by experts. Speaking about how popular were the games most probably, Crist and Abdullayev wrote in their paper, "At certain times in antiquity, particular games were regionally popular, suggesting that they helped to connect cultures that regularly interacted with one another." "The game of Fifty-Eight Holes probably served this purpose in the second millennium BCE in Egypt and south-western Asia, because it was the only game that was played throughout the region," they added. Also Read: A 'ghost city' sits in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Aerial images now reveal what's it like The board games' history goes back thousands of years and it was most probably very popular across regions. "We can't know what that something is, but we can piece together an incomplete history based on the artefacts of board games left behind, from dice to pieces to the boards themselves," stated the researchers. "Whatever the origin of the game of Fifty-Eight Holes, it was quickly adopted and played by a wide variety of people, from the nobility of Middle Kingdom Egypt to the cattle herders of the Caucasus, and from the Old Assyrian traders in Anatolia to the workers who built Middle Kingdom pyramids. The fast spread of this game attests to the ability of games to act as social lubricants, facilitating interactions across social boundaries," they added. (With inputs from agencies)

A 'miracle' baby was born to a young widow nine months after her husband's tragic death during their honeymoon in the Caribbean.

The 23-year-old Mari Kuhlman made an announcement about her son Raphael Patrick Kuhlman's birth and shared the newborn's pictures on Instagram.

The birth was announced by Kuhlman just nine months after her husband, Nate Kuhlman, who was 23 years old, drowned while water skiing on their honeymoon in St. Lucia.

“Clearly, God had a plan bigger than anything we could have ever imagined,” wrote Kuhlman in her Instagram post.

“He answered our prayers, and prayers of those around the world, just in a different way than we had expected, but still the GIFT OF LIFE; the miracle we are so overjoyed to finally share with you all," she added.

How did the woman's husband meet a tragic death?

The couple from Ohio had wed just three days before the accident occurred, as reported by the Tampa Bay Times.

“Nate, our son is here! I know you’ll be praying for him, for us each and every day, and he will know without a doubt how much his father loves him!,” wrote Kuhlman in her post.

She realised about her pregnancy on Thanksgiving day, weeks after the death of her husband on October 31, 2023.

“This has to be a miracle. God himself would have to kick an egg out," she said, as per The Times.

The couple had met when they were students at Franciscan University in Steubenville in October 2021. They got engaged more than a year later and got married on October 28, 2023, when they consummated their relationship, reported the Times.

The next day they went to Miami for honeymoon, however, the husband drowned during water skiing.

The husband was given CPR on a boat, and attempts were made to revive him, however, doctors confirmed that he couldn't make it, and the woman - in a day - turned from a wife to a widow. The antibiotic-resistant infections can kill nearly 40 million people by 2050, as per a new study published in The Lancet. According to the researchers, drug-resistant infections led to the death of more than one million people every year between 1900 and 2021. According to the report, this number can go up to nearly two million by 2050, which means that around 40 million people will apparently die in more than 25 years due to these infections. The researchers believe that the lives of a third of people can be saved if they get wider access to better treatment and appropriate antibiotics. Bacterial antimicrobial resistance (AMR) takes place when the bacteria evolves and becomes drug-resistant, which makes common diseases like pneumonia, UTIs, and diarrhoea lethal. Also Read: Virus EV-D68, which sometimes paralyses kids, is spreading across US: Reports This adaptation to exist beyond medicine is leading to a "silent pandemic," which needs to be urgently addressed, stated the researchers. "The threat of fungal pathogens and antifungal resistance, even though it is a growing global issue, is being left out of the debate," said Norman van Rhijn, a molecular biologist from the University of Manchester in the UK. Researchers appeal govt and pharmaceutical firms to 'look beyond just bacteria' The international team of scientists and van Rhijn have appealed to the pharmaceutical industry and governments to "look beyond just bacteria." They warned that if some action is not taken, the fungal infections can infect 6.5 million people and kill 3.8 million people annually. "The disproportionate focus on bacteria is concerning because many drug resistance problems over the past decades were the result of invasive fungal diseases, which are largely under-recognized by the community and governments alike," wrote van Rhijn, in the report. Watch: Virus Linked To Childhood Paralysis On The Rise In The US "To treat deep or invasive fungal infections, only four systemic antifungal classes are available and resistance is now the rule rather than the exception for those currently available classes," stated the authors. In the last few decades, new antifungals have emerged, however, the race between pathogens and medicine is now being sped up. "Even before [these drugs] reach the market after years of development and clinical trials, fungicides with similar modes of action are developed by the agrochemical industry, resulting in cross-resistance for critical priority pathogens," explained the researchers. "Antifungal protection is required for food security. The question is, how do we balance food security with the ability to treat current and future resistant fungal pathogens?," they said.
