A video has gone viral on social media platforms capturing the vile moment a sewage pipe blasted and a fountain of filthy water rose - as high as a 10-story tower block - in Moscow. In the stomach-churning video, a tower of murky water is seen rising from a pipe in the neighbourhood of what looks like a construction site in the Novaya Moskva district. Soon the water rained down on nearby cars and buildings. According to some Moscow-based Telegram channels, dirty water rose at such a height because of the extreme pressure by which the water was forced through a gas pipeline. Adopting an innovative way to battle low population, a Japanese village has been placing life-sized dolls to give the place the feel of a human-filled bustling society.

In the hamlet of Ichinono, there are less than 60 residents and just one child. Hence, the villagers are trying the fill the emptiness with stuffed mannequins which are dressed and kept around the community. Some of these mannequins pose on bicycles and swings.

“We’re probably outnumbered by puppets,” said 88-year-old resident Hisayo Yamazaki, while speaking to the news agency AFP.

Yamazaki said that even though older inhabitants had children but they went to different places to attend college and left the tiny community empty.

“We were afraid they would become unmarriageable if they remained stuck in a remote place like this. Out they went, and they never came back, getting jobs elsewhere. We’re now paying the price," she said while speaking to the outlet.

In a recent study, scientists have hinted that secret alien life is hiding in the methane present on Saturn's largest moon Titan.

Titan is a celestial body which has an atmosphere filled with surface liquids and methane in the form of lakes, rivers and seas which are similar to those present on Earth.

Titan has subzero temperatures because of which the bodies of water are composed of hydrocarbons like ethane and methane and its land masses consist of solid water ice.

The study, published in The Planetary Science Journal, revealed some marvellous features about Titan.

The study, headed by planetary scientists at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, stated that methane gas was most probably present inside the ice which formed an isolated crust that was six miles thick.

Lead research associate Lauren Schurmeier said that the crust warms the underlying ice shell and accounts for the rich methane atmosphere of Titan.

Titan’s unique topography

The impact craters of Titan were found to be much more shallow than expected which are only hundreds of metres deep. Also, only 90 such craters are on this moon.

“This was very surprising because, based on other moons, we expect to see many more impact craters on the surface and craters that are much deeper than what we observe on Titan,” Schurmeier said.

“We realised something unique to Titan must be making them become shallower and disappear relatively quickly," he added.

According to the computer simulations, the layer of insulating methane clathrate ice on Titan has a thickness of around 3 to 6 miles.

The crust is likely to result in a warmer interior which can cause rapid topographic relaxation that leads to the crater becoming shallow at a faster rate.

The investigation into the thickness of the methane ice shell of Titan will throw light on the methane-rich atmosphere of the moon and will help scientists understand its carbon cycle, evolving climate and liquid methane-based “hydrological cycle".

“Titan is a natural laboratory to study how the greenhouse gas methane warms and cycles through the atmosphere,” Schurmeier said.

“Earth’s methane clathrate hydrates, found in the permafrost of Siberia and below the arctic seafloor, are currently destabilising and releasing methane. So, lessons from Titan can provide important insights into processes happening on Earth," he added.

Is the methane world on Titan hiding secret alien life? Scientists say...

The fattest cat in the world, Crumbs, lost his life weeks after joining a feline fat camp as vets said that his cancerous tumours got hidden in his extensive layers of flab.

The cat – named Kroshik (Russian for “Crumbs”) – had gone viral after authorities rescued him from the basement of a Russian hospital.

The diet of scraps, biscuits and soup in the basement had caused the cat to gain an enormous weight of 38 pounds.

However, after joining a special veterinary weight loss centre in Perm, Russia, Crumbs was able to lose seven pounds before he suddenly started to develop breathing problems and died on Saturday (Oct 26).

The vets working at the diet centre said that layers of flab on the cat were so deep that the scans were not able to show the cancerous tumours which had grown on his spleen and internal organs.

What caused Crumbs’ death?

Galiana More, who is the owner of Matroskin cat shelter where Crumbs was treated, said that most probably the tumours caused the collapse of multiple organs.

The official cause of death of Crumbs is still not known as his full post-mortem exam is pending.

More said even after the post-mortem exam, it will be “very difficult” to understand what caused the demise of the fat cat's death – tumours or excess weight.

“When this is a large set of such multi-organ failure, the body simply can not cope, despite the fact that Kroshik was really a fighter,” More said.

“We are looking ahead to starting an examination, to understand why the Crumbs died but we will have to wait for five days for that conclusion," she added.

More emphasised that often cats hide symptoms when they fall ill and reveal the issue only after their death.

“Cats always hold on to the last, they do not show this disease. Kroshik had no shortness of breath, no digestive problems. We could not do ultrasound, but we constantly monitored his health, because we understood that excess weight does not just happen," she explained.

The tests of Crumbs were all normal in the weeks which led to his death, More confirmed.

“It hurts that we didn’t know about it before, couldn’t help. This is a great loss for us, because Kroshik was a symbol of hope for everyone, and we really wanted to publish only good news. It’s really painful to talk about it," she said.

Crumbs was so heavy that he could not walk and had to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen which included walking on an underwater treadmill to lose weight.

As per the report published in Daily Mail, Tim Walz showered gifts on Jenna Wang and even seduced her at his staff accommodation.

The couple was not able to hold hands or display their affection in public because the father of Wang was a high-ranking figure in the Chinese Communist Party, and it was highly likely that he would disown her if he found out about her affair with a Westerner.

"Tim was very passionate and very romantic. I can still remember dancing with him to our favourite song, Careless Whisper," Wang said while speaking to DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview.

The running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, was reportedly involved in a steamy affair with a top Chinese Communist Party official's daughter, Jenna Wang, in the 1980s.

The running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, was reportedly involved in a steamy affair with a top Chinese Communist Party official's daughter, Jenna Wang, in the 1980s. According to a report published in The Daily Mail, the steamy affair started during Walz's teaching stint in Foshan through the nonprofit WorldTeach and left the latter devastated and suicidal. The report was published days before the November 5 US presidential election, where Harris is battling Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. It has also surfaced at the time when Walz has been facing backlash for falsely stating that he was in Hong Kong in the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. It has been exactly 50 years since on August 9, 1974, for the first time the president of the United States stepped down from his position.

Richard Nixon, the 37th President of the United States, became the only president to have resigned from his position after he got entangled in the Watergate scandal.

The scandal brought into daylight the Nixon administration's engagement in burglary, wiretapping, obstruction of justice and political sabotage and the president decided to resign while he faced a near-certain impeachment situation in the US Congress.

US Elections 2024: Who was the only president to resign from office?

The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, is running for the second term in the November 5 election.

The man, who is accused of making efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, has called his time out of the president's office only a "pause".

This is not the first time a president of a country has launched a comeback campaign. Some of the presidents in the past have made efforts to go back to the White House, but many of them have failed.

Some of these presidents were Martin Van Buren in 1844 and 1848; Millard Fillmore in 1856; Ulysses S. Grant in 1880; and Teddy Roosevelt in 1912.

However, Democrat Grover Cleveland became the only president who served nonconsecutive terms from 1885 to 1889 and from 1893 to 1897.

Stephen “Grover” Cleveland was not making plans to run again for the presidential office after he left office.

He was defeated by Republican Benjamin Harrison in the 1888 presidential election and also faced allegations of carrying out voting irregularities.

Grover Cleveland Presidential Library's spokesperson, Louis Picone, said that Cleveland loved fishing at his house in Cape Cod and liked spending time with the family.

Cleveland's supporters encouraged him to run for elections, after the midterm polls hinted at a repudiation of the then-President Benjamin Harrison.

Cleveland had the reputation of being a fiscal conservative who was dedicated to reducing public spending, solidifying the gold standard and lowering tariffs.

Cleveland did not need to campaign very hard and easily got the nomination of his party and also won the elections.

However, during his second time in office, he had to face the worst economic depression of 1893 in the United States. But later “he regained stature as an elder statesman and a throwback to an earlier time,” said Picone.

US Elections 2024: Explosive devices put ballot drop boxes on fire, destroy hundreds of votes

The last presidential elections in the United States were held on November 3, 2020, when the world was battling the global coronavirus pandemic.

The elections resulted in Democrat nominee Joe Biden emerging as the winner and the then-incumbent president Donald Trump facing a defeat.

Biden became the 46th president of the United States after garnering more than 81 million votes. The voter turnout by percentage was the highest in this election since 1900.

However, Trump refused to acknowledge Biden’s victory and claimed that the election was rigged without any specific evidence.

The baseless claims ignited anger among the supporters of Trump who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an incident which was etched in history as a moment when democracy was brought to its knees in the United States.

The US Capitol attack

It was the same day when the Electoral College results were scheduled to be ceremoniously reported to Congress.

However, unlike what was planned, around 2,500 people barged inside the Capitol Building and looted and vandalised the government offices.

The Capitol Police officers and reporters were also assaulted by the rioters and lawmakers were harmed. People erected a gallows west of the Capitol amid chants of "Hang Mike Pence" – the then-vice president – because he rejected Trump’s requests to not certify the election results.

In the next 36 hours, six people were killed and several others were injured. Trump's provocative speech was said to have triggered the mob who had invaded the Capitol and he was impeached by the House of Representatives for “inciting violence against the government of the United States".

Trump's era comes to an end

The elections led to the end of the era of Donald Trump in Washington DC. The camera-hungry president decided to leave the capital a few hours earlier than the time he was left to avoid the humiliation of seeing his opponent's swearing-in ceremony.

“We will be back in some form,” Trump had said to the supporters who had gathered to bid him farewell at Joint Base Andrews. “So have a good life. We will see you soon," the then-outgoing president had said.

As Trump departed in Air Force One for the final time, he left the city which had turned into a militarised fortification because of the Capitol attack which took place days back.
