The Tihar Jail administration has served termination notice to its 50 employees after a verification drive found a mismatch in their biometric identification records, officials said on Saturday. Officials said that 50 terminated employees were among the 450 on probation recruited after an exam and it is suspected that someone else had appeared for them in the exam.

According to the Tihar Jail administration, among these 50 terminated employees, 39 are warders, 9 are assistant superintendent and 2 are matron.

The notice was served as per the direction of the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSB), which had conducted the exam and recruited about 450 applicants for these three posts, officials said.

Of these 450 employees, the biometric identification did not match for 50 of them, due to which the notice of termination has been served to them, they added.

"It is suspected that somebody else had taken their exam," an official said.

All these employees were on probation period for two years, the official said, adding that they have to respond within one month on the notice.

7 Superfoods Which Help Naturally Soothe Heartburn

Oats contain a high amount of fibre which helps in digestion and absorb stomach acidity, hence keeping heartburn at bay.

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and is considered a superhero for the stomach. It helps in soothing the digestive system and decreases acid reflux.

Leafy greens like spinach and kale are filled with minerals and vitamins. They are high in fibre and low in acid and help in promoting healthy digestion.

Bananas are natural antacids and are considered a go-to for soothing acidity. They work well in controlling acid levels and provide relief from heartburn.

The pH level is high in melons like cantaloupe and honeydew which reduces acidity in the stomach. The water content in melons helps in hydration and promotes better digestion.

Greek Yogurt is filled with probiotics and helps in promoting gut health by balancing out acid levels in the stomach.

Whole grains like quinoa and brown rice are gentle on the stomach and are able to maintain a balanced pH in the body.

6 Reasons Why Spring Onion is a Must in Winter Diet

Spring onions are filled with vitamin C, which naturally boosts our immune system in the winter days and helps in staying away from seasonal illnesses.

-The two tied the knot on Tuesday in Imphal, Manipur in an intimate ceremony which followed the traditional Meitei rituals. Lin looked stunning in traditional Manipuri bridal wear, while the groom donned a traditional white Manipuri outfit.

The fibre content in spring onions helps in digestion and in dealing with common winter issues like bloating and indigestion.

Spring onions are low in calories and are filled with essential nutrients, which make it an ideal choice for a healthy diet.

They have natural anti-bacterial properties which fight winter illnesses including flu and common colds.

Spring onions help regulate blood sugar levels and manage diabetes in the winter season.

In a major breakthrough, scientists used human cells and created tiny living robots which are able to move around in a lab dish and are likely to heal damaged tissue and wounds someday, as per a new study.

A team, comprising students from Harvard University’s Wyss Institute and Tufts University, have called these creations anthrobots. The research was the follow-up of similar work done by the same scientists. These scientists had earlier made the first living robots, called xenobots, using stem cells sourced from African clawed frog embryos.

“Some people thought that the features of the xenobots relied a lot on the fact that they are embryonic and amphibian,” study author Michael Levin, Vannevar Bush professor of biology at Tufts’ School of Arts & Sciences said, as reported by CNN.

“I don’t think this has anything to do with being an embryo. This has nothing to do with being a frog. I think this is a much more general property of living things. We don’t realize all the competencies that our own body cells have,” he added.

“While alive, the anthrobots were not full-fledged organisms because they didn’t have a full life cycle. It reminds us that these harsh binary categories that we’ve operated with: Is that a robot, is that an animal, is that a machine? These kinds of things don’t serve us very well. We need to get beyond that,” Levin said.

The research was published in the journal Advanced Science on Thursday (Nov 30).

How were these living robots made?

Adult human cells, which were taken from the windpipe or trachea of anonymous donors who were from different sexes and ages, were used by the scientists.

This type of cell was selected by the researchers because they are comparatively easy to access due to the work done on COVID-19 and lung disease and, because of a feature which as per scientists will make cells capable of motion, as per study coauthor Gizem Gumuskaya, who is a doctoral student at Tufts.

“It’s this self-assembly that makes them unique. Biological robots have been made by other scientists, but they were constructed by hand by making a mould and seeding cells to live on top of it,” said Levin.

Scientists create tiny living robots from human cells which may heal wounds

In a new study, a scientist has suggested that if it were not for the dinosaurs, humans could have extended their lifespan by up to 200 years.

Microbiologist Joao Pedro de Magalhaes, from University of Birmingham in the UK, has emphasised an evident difference between how quickly mammals, like humans, age and how the ageing takes place in reptiles and amphibians.

The discrepancy is likely because the dinosaurs dominated this planet millions of years ago, especially at an important time period in mammalian history.

In a newly published paper, the microbiologist describing his "longevity bottleneck" hypothesis, explains that when dinosaurs were ruling the Earth, it had become important for the much smaller mammals to quickly reproduce for survival, which likely led to the discarding of genes for longer lifespans as evolution progressed.

"Some of the earliest mammals were forced to live towards the bottom of the food chain, and have likely spent 100 million years during the age of the dinosaurs evolving to survive through rapid reproduction," said de Magalhaes, as reported by Science Alert.

"That long period of evolutionary pressure has, I propose, an impact on the way that we humans age,” he added.

Ancestors lost genes which could have replaced sun creams?

In the research, the scientist has noted that the ancient ancestors in the eutherian mammal lineage are likely to have lost certain enzymes at the time when dinosaurs were present, which also includes enzymes which help in repairing the damage caused to our skin by ultraviolet light.

As per the research, even marsupials and monotremes do not have at least one of the three UV-repair enzymes, which are called photolyases. However, this remains unclear if this was related to their own comparatively shortened lifespans.

The scientists hinted that the mammal, who tried to become nocturnal to stay safe, may have faced more loss, and now after millions of years, this loss is being covered with the use of sun cream.

"We see examples in the animal world of truly remarkable repair and regeneration. That genetic information would have been unnecessary for early mammals that were lucky to not end up as T. rex food,” said de Magalhaes.

"While just a hypothesis at the moment, there are lots of intriguing angles to take this, including the prospect that cancer is more frequent in mammals than other species due to the rapid ageing process," he added.

After 54 days in captivity, Hamas has released 21-year-old Mia Schem, who the Palestinian militant group had abducted from Israel when she was attending a dance party with her friends. She had an emotional reunion with her family. The family members of Mia Schem, after meeting her, alleged that the militants got her operated by a veterinarian.

The 21-year-old was trying to flee Hamas militants when she got shot in the arm and was eventually caught by them and taken to Gaza as a hostage. Mia was finally released on Thursday (Nov 30) under the truce deal finalised between Israel and Hamas.

In the photos shared by the Israeli prime minister's office, Mia – who also has French citizenship – was seen embracing her brother and mother after they got reunited at Hatzerim military base in Israel.

Mizoram assembly elections: Counting of votes pushed by a day to December 4

In a first, astronomers have found the swirling disk of material which is feeding a young star and is present in a galaxy, which is outside the Milky Way.

The disk was found near-identical to those discovered near infant stars in the Milky Way and this helped scientists understand that the stars and planets are formed in other galaxies just like the ones in our galaxy.

The young star, which has been just observed, is located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is a galaxy located 160,000 light-years away from the Milky Way and its system, which has been given the name HH 1177, is placed in a massive cloud of gas.

The team, which was behind the discovery observed the system as part of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), which is the largest astronomical project.

"When I first saw evidence for a rotating structure in the ALMA data, I could not believe that we had detected the first extragalactic accretion disc. It was a special moment," said researcher lead author and Durham University scientist Anna McLeod, in a statement, as reported by space.com.

"We know discs are vital to forming stars and planets in our galaxy, and here, for the first time, we're seeing direct evidence for this in another galaxy,” he added.

Jet emerges from forming star, hinting at existence of disk

McLeod and his teammates were hinted about the existence of this system when a jet emerging from a forming star was spotted by the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT).

The instrument is able to make observations in the visible wavelength range as well as measure the wavelengths of light which are getting emitted from the object. "We discovered a jet being launched from this young massive star, and its presence is a signpost for ongoing disc accretion," said McLeod.

The scientists measured the movement of dense gas around the star to confirm that an accretion disk is present in HH 1177.

The gas, which is present at the centre of the accretion disc, is located close to the central object which is a young feeding star and is moving faster in comparison to the matter present on the disk's outskirts.

"The frequency of light changes depending on how fast the gas emitting the light is moving towards or away from us," said team member and Liverpool John Moores University research fellow Jonathan Henshaw.

"This is precisely the same phenomenon that occurs when the pitch of an ambulance siren changes as it passes you, and the frequency of the sound goes from higher to lower,” he added.

"We know discs are vital to forming stars and planets in our galaxy, and here, for the first time, we're seeing direct evidence for this in another galaxy,” he added. Jet emerges from forming star, hinting at existence of disk McLeod and his teammates were hinted about the existence of this system when a jet emerging from a forming star was spotted by the Multi Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT). The instrument is able to make observations in the visible wavelength range as well as measure the wavelengths of light which are getting emitted from the object. "We discovered a jet being launched from this young massive star, and its presence is a signpost for ongoing disc accretion," said McLeod. Watch: New evidence suggests size of the Sun could be smaller, says report The scientists measured the movement of dense gas around the star to confirm that an accretion disk is present in HH 1177. An ancient samurai weapon has emerged as a hero after an employee at a jewellery shop in Tokyo wielded it to thwart an attempted robbery and gave the three robbers a chase, as they fled.

The weapon, which was invented by samurai warriors hundreds of years ago, is called the sasumata and looks like a pole with two prongs attached to the end.

After the attempted robbery's footage was released, it attracted massive attention on online platforms. As the video went viral, an auto parts manufacturer, which has been making the forked pole, reported that he received multiple requests for the traditional weapon.

Speaking to his OPEC+ peers, Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira expressed the country's eagerness to formally enter the group at a future meeting to be held in Vienna, after its charter's technical review for cooperation.

"It's all set. But there is a phase of detailed analysis by our technical team of the document we just received, which is part of the protocol in Brazil," said Silveira, in Portuguese amid a virtual meeting, where his comments received a standing ovation from OPEC+ ministers.

The confirmation from Brazil came after the oil cartel announced that Brazil, which is a major producer, will soon become a part of the OPEC+.

Brazil is among the top 10 producers in the world and has been Latin America's largest oil producer since 2016.

As per pricing agency Argus Media, the crude production reached a record 3.7 million barrels per day in September, which is a nearly 17 per cent increase from a similar month last year and a 6.1 per cent increase from August.

The ministers of the 13-member Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) led by Saudi Arabia and its 10 partners were holding a meeting to discuss future output cuts for boosting prices.

"The meeting welcomed Alexandre Silveira de Oliveira, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Federative Republic of Brazil, which will join the OPEC+... starting January 2024," said OPEC, in a press release.

"Considering that Brazil is a large oil producer and is driving oil production growth it is important to have them on board, but it seems that they are not cutting production like Mexico, so would conclude with: good for OPEC+, less relevant for oil market balances," said UBS analyst Giovanni Staunovo.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has appealed to the country's women to give birth to as many as eight children and make it a “norm” to create large families.

He made the statement while speaking at the World Russian People's Council in Moscow on Tuesday (Nov 28).

The birth rate in Russia has been declining since the 1990s and the country has recorded more than 300,000 casualties in the Ukraine war, as per a report published by The Independent.

In the speech, Putin said boosting the country's population will be "our goal for the coming decades".

"Many of our ethnic groups have preserved the tradition of having strong multigenerational families with four, five, or even more children. Let us remember that Russian families, many of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers had seven, eight, or even more children," said Putin, while addressing the council through a video link.

"Let us preserve and revive these excellent traditions. Large families must become the norm, a way of life for all Russia's peoples. The family is not just the foundation of the state and society, it is a spiritual phenomenon, a source of morality," he said.

The entire speech was uploaded on the official website of the Russian president.

"Preserving and increasing the population of Russia is our goal for the coming decades and even generations ahead. This is the future of the Russian world, the millennium-old, eternal Russia," Putin said.

Head of Russia's Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill organised the conference and the representatives of many traditional organisations of Russia attended it, said The Independent.

Though the comments of the Russian president did not directly refer to the massive casualties suffered by the Russian Army in the war against Ukraine, many media outlets have linked the statement to the loss borne in the conflict.
