7 Tips To Save Your Terrace From Pigeon Menace

Avoid keeping any food sources such as bird feeders and abandoned crumbs on your terrace.

One way to stop pigeons from entering your terrace is to cover the ceiling or any space from which they can enter using wire mesh or screens.

Keep tangible barriers on the balcony surface, such as bird netting, bird gel or bird spikes.

Use scare tactics against pigeons which include hanging shiny objects like aluminium foil strips or CDs or setting up fake owls or motion-activated noisemakers.

It is important to keep the terrace clean and clutter-free and get rid of nesting materials as well as pigeon droppings and feathers.

If pigeons are congregating or roosting, one can use natural or artificial repellents against them, such as peppermint oil, chilli spray, citrus fragrances and more.

Pigeons flock to water for drinking and bathing and hence, it is advisable to remove any water sources such as stagnant water, puddles or bird baths.

6 Ways To Know If Your Mango Was Chemically Ripened

It is common to find chemically-ripened mangoes in huge numbers in the market in the summer. Fruit sellers are known to inject calcium carbide into raw fruits which releases acetylene gas after coming into contact with moisture.

This ripens the mangoes quickly but also poses serious health risks, such as respiratory problems, gastrointestinal issues and skin issues. Here are six ways to find if a mango is ripened artificially.

One should check the colour of the mangoes. Artificially ripened mangoes have green spots on them.

Generally, the artificially ripened mangoes are small in size and their juice is dripping from the fruit.

Mangoes, when submerged in the water, should sink if they are naturally ripe. Artificially ripened mangoes generally float in water.

Naturally ripened mangoes are generally soft and those in which chemicals have been injected may be hard in some places.

Mangoes which smell fruity and sweet are naturally ripened. However, if they smell sour or alcoholic, they may be spoilt.

Mangoes, which are naturally ripened have brown spots and those in which chemicals have been injected have blue or white spots.

United States police officials shot dead a 42-year-old Indian-origin man in San Antonio after he hit two officers with his vehicle. The officers were trying to apprehend the man in connection with an aggravated assault case when he was shot dead. After police officer Tyler Turner shot at him, officials pronounced the Indian-origin man, identified as Sachin Sahoo, dead at the scene on April 21. Sahoo hailed from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and media reports hinted that he may have been a naturalised US citizen. Here's how the unfortunate incident unfolded As per the preliminary investigation, the police officers just before 6:30 pm on April 21 were sent to a home located in Cheviot Heights in San Antonio after someone reported Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, said the San Antonio Police Department, in a statement to news agency PTI. Israel is willing to decrease its original demand for the release of 40 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, media reports said.

Israel is willing to decrease its original demand for the release of 40 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, media reports said. Israel is now reportedly ready to negotiate for the release of 20 hostages after an offer proposed by Qatari, Egyptian and US negotiators was refused by the terror group, which may have released many abductees if finalised. It was reported by many Hebrew media sites on Thursday evening (April 25) that Israel is now willing to finalise a deal to release only 20 hostages in the first phase of the truce, as long as they are either women or men who are seriously ill and over 50 years old. The release of 40 hostages in those categories was envisioned in the last proposal sent to Hamas, however, the terror outfit denied keeping so many hostages alive in those categories. The Egyptian delegation will reach Tel Aviv for additional talks on the matter on Friday (Apr 26), said the Hebrew news sites. The Israeli negotiators in the earlier round insisted that 40 living hostages were falling under the category of female, elderly or sick and if Hamas said that this wasn’t true, then it should agree to release hostages from categories, which are men and soldiers under the age of 50, to meet the benchmark of 40. Columbia University retreated its midnight deadline which was given to pro-Palestinian protesters to abandon encampments on the campus, even as several other campuses saw new protests erupt.

Columbia University retreated its midnight deadline which was given to pro-Palestinian protesters to abandon encampments on the campus, even as several other campuses saw new protests erupt. "The talks have shown progress and are continuing as planned," said the office of Columbia University president Minouche Shafik on Thursday (Apr 25). "We have our demands; they have theirs," he added. In the statement, the university also denied inviting the New York City police. "This rumour is false," it stated. The news comes as massive pro-Palestinian protests embroiled more universities in the US on Thursday, forcing the police to adopt more severe measures to bring things under control. Security concerns have forced the University of Southern California to cancel its main graduation ceremony scheduled for May 10. At one of the universities, the riot officers had to resort to tasers and chemical irritants to control the protesters as some of the most prestigious institutions were forced to battle it out to prevent occupations from taking hold. Violent police crackdown at Emory University Multiple violent arrests were made by the police officials at Emory University in Decatur, Georgia. This was the first such police crackdown on protesters in recent days which involved the firing of teargas and rubber bullets after multiple encampments were established by the students to express their solidarity with Palestine and against Cop City. Police were seen wielding tasers and wrestling with protesters at Emory University. Zip-ties were used by officers wearing gas masks to detain people, reported the college's Emory Wheel news website. The Atlanta Police Department (APD) further confirmed that the college had asked for help in "securing the campus". Protests spread across US campuses as activists call for ceasefire Demonstrations and new sit-ins were organised across college campuses in the US as activists appealed for a ceasefire in Israel's war with Hamas and continued demanding colleges sever ties with the country and with companies which have been profiting from the conflict. "For 201 days, the world has watched in silence as Israel has murdered over 30,000 Palestinians," read a message, which was shared by organisers of a new protest at the University of California, Los Angeles. USC faces backlash after cancelling main stage commencement ceremony The University of Southern California (USC) cancelled its main stage commencement ceremony for the 2024 graduates as the campus was shut down by the anti-Israel protests. After this, the university faced backlash for the decision. "With the new safety measures in place this year, the time needed to process the large number of guests coming to campus will increase substantially. As a result, we will not be able to host the main stage ceremony that traditionally brings 65,000 students, families, and friends to our campus all at the same time and during a short window from 8:30 am to 10 am," stated USC on its website. More 'hate' at student protests than Charlottesville: Trump Condemning the pro-Palestinian protests across US colleges, former president Donald Trump on Thursday said that the level of "hate" on display is much worse in comparison to the deadly rally by right-wing extremists in Charlottesville in 2017. "We're having protests all over. Charlottesville was a little peanut, and it was nothing compared -- and the hate wasn't the kind of hate that you have here, this is tremendous hate," Trump said. India calls for "right balance" amid pro-Palestine protests Speaking about the protests, India's foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the government has been in touch with the Indian students who are studying in US universities. "We have seen reports on the matter and have been following related events. In every democracy, there has to be the right balance between freedom of expression, a sense of responsibility and public safety and order. Democracies in particular should display this understanding in regard to other fellow democracies. After all, we are all judged by what we do at home and not what we say abroad," said Jaiswal. Former United States president Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial took an interesting turn on Thursday (April 25) after a key witness divulged details of the role he played in hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Former United States president Donald Trump's criminal hush money trial took an interesting turn on Thursday (April 25) after a key witness divulged details of the role he played in hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels. He also spoke about how Trump tried to suppress negative stories around him. During the trial, the National Enquirer's former publisher David Pecker spoke about the efforts made by him to bury negative stories and shield the 2016 presidential campaign of Donal Trump, which included finalising a $150,000 deal with a former Playboy model who claimed to have an affair with Trump. Also Read: Trump attorney says presidents are immune from assassinating political rivals As he appeared in the court on the third day, Pecker also spoke about the Enquirer buying the rights to Karen McDougal's story, however, never publishing her allegations, a tactic which is called "catch and kill." Speaking to jurors about why he did not purchase the story rights himself, Pecker said, "I said, I don't want the National Enquirer to be associated with a porn star. Our largest retailer is Walmart ... This would be very bad for the magazine, very bad for American Media and I don't want any affiliation." He was speaking about American Media, Inc., which was the owner of the Enquirer. Till 2020, Pecker was the CEO of AMI. Here are some major revelations made by Trump's one-time aide Pecker Pecker on Karen McDougal's arrangement Pecker said that when Playboy model Karen McDougal tried to sell her story about the alleged year-long relationship she had with Trump, he was instructed by American attorney Michael Cohen to purchase her story and was informed that Trump would compensate the cost. Pecker bought exclusive rights to McDougal's story by paying $150,000 so it wouldn't "embarrass Mr. Trump or embarrass or hurt the campaign." Pecker brokered Stormy Daniels deal Speaking about his role, Pecker said that he brokered Michael Cohen's infamous $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, a monetary transaction which underpinned the 34 felony charges Trump now faces. Pecker remembered how he got a frantic phone call from his editor at the National Enquirer while he was out at a dinner in 2016 with an offer to purchase Daniels' story. Watch: US top court hears Trump's bid for immunity from prosecution Pecker said that he was not willing to engage in another "catch-and-kill" deal on Trump's behalf, however, he instructed his editor to give one chance to Michael Cohen to take the story "off the market," which was done by Cohen out of his own pocket. Pecker speaks about catch-and-kill deals Pecker, during the cross-examination, also spoke about other catch-and-kill arrangements which he had over the years. These deals included buying a story for Rep. Rahm Emanuel for $20,000 and suppressing it. He also revealed about the agreement he made with Arnold Schwarzenegger before the actor's run for California governor. As per the agreement, Schwarzenegger was to serve as an editor-at-large for some of the fitness magazines of AMI in exchange for suppressing some negative stories about his own past interactions with women. Buckingham Palace officials are regularly updating plans for King Charles' funeral in the wake of his recent health issues, media reports suggested. The 75-year-old British monarch has been largely away from the limelight since his cancer diagnosis in February. In a report published in The Daily Beast, multiple sources were quoted as saying that the monarch's condition is “not good”. “Of course, he is determined to beat it and they are throwing everything at it. Everyone is staying optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on,” an old friend of the royal family was quoted as saying by the outlet. Also Read: Kate Middleton, King Charles, King Edward VII: Royal family's history with cancer It has not been revealed what kind of cancer King Charles has been diagnosed with, however, it was clarified that it is not prostate cancer. Meanwhile, the royal family has maintained that the King is “responding really well” to treatment. Is regular review of “Operation Menai Bridge” a standard procedure? It has been reported that the aides of King Charles are regularly reviewing copies of his royal funeral plans, codenamed “Operation Menai Bridge", which is a several-hundred-page document. “The plans have been dusted off and are actively being kept up to date. It’s no more than what you would expect given the king has been diagnosed with cancer. But the circulation of them has certainly focused minds,” said a former staffer, while speaking to the Daily Beast. The British royalty created the detailed document a day after the burial of Queen Elizabeth on September 8, 2022. As per the Daily Beast, military officials clarified that Operation Menai Bridge is being updated regularly, but added that it was standard procedure and that it would be “absurd to read anything into” that fact. Watch: UK: Tories delete social media post after widespread ridicule Funeral plans for British monarchs is nothing new. In fact, all members of the UK's royal family have such plans which are periodically updated. The plans are categorised by bridge-based codewords. Serious planning for Charles’ funeral began the day after they buried the queen," said a senior official, who has been involved in the planning of royal funerals. (With inputs from agencies)

Traces of hundreds of monuments, which were previously unknown, have been identified in an archaeological survey. Amongst these monuments, five of them have been found to be "incredibly rare" prehistoric structures which once may have the hidden "routes for the dead" into the afterlife. The survey was conducted by the University of Aberdeen Department of Archaeology's James O'Driscoll, with the use of LiDAR technology. O'Driscoll carried out the survey in the Baltinglass landscape of County Wicklow, Ireland which is dotted with prehistoric remains and the results were published in the journal Antiquity. LiDAR is a type of remote-sensing method in which laser pulses are fired towards the ground to generate 3D models of a specific landscape. Also Read: Archaeologists discover long-lost 5,000-year-old copper age cemetery in Italy The method is useful in mapping the topography of the land and also revealing any hidden man-made features which is generally not visible to the naked eyes. Speaking to Newsweek, the researcher said, "I have been working on the Baltinglass landscape for over a decade. It formed the core component of my PhD." "While my PhD focused on targeted geophysical and remote sensing surveys and excavations, what was sorely missing was a large-scale topographical model of the landscape, which would not only help to knit together all of the research that had previously been undertaken, but also help to discover new archaeological sites that were either hidden under trees and scrub overgrowth, or had been mostly levelled by thousands of years of ploughing," he added. Discovery of five 'cursus' monuments The survey's "most significant" findings were a group of five unknown "cursus" monuments. Cursuses are a type of monumental Neolithic structures which are similar to ditches or trenches and are found in the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. These prehistoric monuments generally have long and relatively narrow earthwork enclosures. "The discovery of the cursus monuments is particularly significant, as these are incredibly rare in Ireland," said O'Driscoll. "There are less than 20 recorded cursus monuments in Ireland, and they typically occur in isolation or pairs. This makes the identification of five examples in Baltinglass the largest cluster of these sites in the country—but also, the detailed topographical model of the sites and their surrounding landscape provided an opportunity to 'digitally' investigate these monuments in detail," he added. Watch: Mount Etna puffs out 'smoke rings' | Alaska to break snow record The archaeologist, using his new data, was able to observe that at least four of the five newly identified cursus monuments were built in alignment with important solar events. He added that these solar events are related to farming cycles, along with death and rebirth which emphasised the purpose of these mysterious monuments. O'Driscoll hinted that the monuments may have symbolised the walking of the dead towards the heavens. "The function of these types of monuments has always been a thorny topic, as we simply don't have enough information. But given that some of the Baltinglass sites can also be linked with burial monuments, this suggested to me that they may have been ceremonial monuments used in burial practices, where the cursus marked the physical route in which the dead moved from the living into the afterlife," said O'Driscoll. A normal flight journey turned into a baffling experience for a passenger after she captured a video of a flying disk that appeared like a UFO above New York through the airplane window.

A normal flight journey turned into a baffling experience for a passenger after she captured a video of a flying disk that appeared like a UFO above New York through the airplane window. The incident led the federal aviation officials on a fact-finding mission Thursday (April 25). The passenger, identified as Michelle Reyes, was aboard a commercial airline flight above LaGuardia Airport on March 25, when the incident happened. The woman suddenly saw a mysterious “flying cylinder” in the sky out of her plane window and captured video footage. Maybe it was a safety hazard, but unfortunately, I haven’t heard back from them, they didn’t acknowledge my email.” Also Read: Aliens may be travelling from one planet to another via meteorites: Study She added that another person, who was along with her on the flight, also noticed the mysterious object and was stunned. “It’s a little nerve-wracking that someone else saw what I saw,” she added. Mysterious object can be a 'potential hazard': State director State director of the Mutual UFO Network in Ohio Thomas Wertman also reviewed the footage and said that the object was seen travelling at roughly 2,500 feet and was “relatively close” to the aeroplane when it was preparing for landing. The altitude, shape and location of the object - which was close to the path of a major commercial flight — possibly rule out that it could be a military-operated aircraft, drone and a news helicopter, said Wertman. “Drones aren’t supposed to fly at that altitude at least legally. If it were something related to [military] defence or law enforcement, you normally wouldn’t see it so close to a major flight lane," he said. Watch: UFO: Ex-US Navy Admiral leads search for underwater alien, 'seen unidentified craft under water' “That could be a potential hazard,” Wertman said, who has been studying the skies for years to hunt for evidence of interplanetary visitors. He found the object's unusual round shape “intriguing” since it debunked the theory that it may be a second plane, which may have been captured at an odd angle. “It does not appear to be a commercial aircraft because I don’t see features like wings or a tail,” he stated. He said that the aeroplane, from which it was shot, was roughly 15 minutes away from LaGuardia Airport when the video was captured. The footage certainly “doesn’t appear to be doctored,” he added. “It’s a very intriguing image. It needs more research," Wertman said. (With inputs from agencies)

United States Food and Drug Administration, in an online update on Thursday (April 25), said that fragments of the bird flu virus have been detected by federal regulators in around 20 per cent of retail milk samples after they were tested in a nationally representative study. According to the agency, the samples with high chances of positive test results were collected from different parts of the country and belonged to virus-infected dairy herds. The Food and Drug Administration said that traces of the bird flu virus were found in 1 in 5 samples of pasteurised milk. No evidence of milk being 'dangerous' for consumers The regulators have again confirmed that till now no evidence has emerged which proves that milk is dangerous for the consumption of the consumers. They added that no presence of live virus has been found in the milk on store shelves. Public health experts have also agreed with the assessment of the regulators. However, traces of the virus in samples of milk from around the country clearly confirm bird flu outbreak in dairy cows. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital virologist and influenza expert Richard Webby said, “It suggests that there is a whole lot of this virus out there."
