He said that even though such cases were unconnected, as many of the students were killed due to personal reasons and many died in accidents, they were still a matter of huge concern for the government.

Jaishankar on being questioned about the rise in the number of Indian students being targeted in attacks in foreign countries, said, “Obviously, in every case, wherever anything unfortunate has happened to the students, it is of great tragedy for the family, and a big concern for us but...our embassy or consulate has looked at every case and they're actually unconnected."

He then said that embassies have been directed to stay in touch with the students and also provide information to them about the cities and the areas that they should avoid travelling to.

He added that there are 11 lakh to 12 lakh Indian students living in various countries.

“Student welfare is very important. Like I said, every Indian going out, you have Modi's guarantee. Student welfare is particularly important for us,” Jaishankar said.&nbsp;

The Vancouver Police released a statement on Sunday saying that 24-year-old Chirag Antil was found dead inside a car after neighbours in the area reported hearing gunshots. The incident took place on Friday (Apr 12), said the police.

“Hamas needs to take that deal and they need to explain to the world and to the Palestinian people why they aren't taking it. Because it is the Hamas, it is Hamas right now that is the barrier and the obstacle to a ceasefire in Gaza,” he added.

The United States is currently pursuing a deal that would allow a truce deal lasting at least six weeks and let more aid into Gaza, added Miller.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (Apr 15) lashed out at the Election Commission accusing it of "favouring" the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

She then said that if there is a single riot in the state, ECI would be responsible, further threatening to go on a hunger strike outside the poll panel's office for 55 days if needed.

While addressing a rally at Alipurduar, the TMC supremo claimed that the ECI ousted the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Murshidabad at the BJP's order.

"Even today, just based on BJP's instructions, the DIG of Murshidabad was changed. Now, if there are riots in Murshidabad and Malda, the responsibility will lie with the Election Commission. The BJP wanted to change the police officers to trigger riots and violence. If there is even one riot, the ECI will be responsible as they are looking after law and order here," she said.

"If I can fast for farmers for 26 days (during anti-land acquisition protests in Singur), I can go on a hunger strike for 55 days outside your (EC) office as well," she added.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi rebuffed accusations by the Opposition that there was no 'level playing field' in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls stating that these were mere excuses by the INDIA bloc leaders over their impending defeat.

He then took a swipe at the Congress party and said, "So our level play cannot happen, we cannot become like that. We want to go on the right path, we don't want to go on the wrong path."

"In the last ten years, we have recovered Rs 2200 crore in cash, while ED before 2014, could only recover Rs 34 lakh cash which can be carried in a school bag. While 70 small trucks (chhota haathi) will be needed to keep Rs 2200 crore. It means that the ED is doing a good job," he added.

His remarks come as the INDIA bloc has repeatedly accused the ruling BJP of misusing the central probe agencies like ED to target the opposition leaders.

"I wanted that we try something, how can our elections be free from this black money, how can there be transparency? There was a pure thought in my mind. We were looking for a way. We found a small way, we never claimed that this was the absolute way," he added.

He further lashed out at the opposition and accused it of spreading lies stating that out of the 16 companies that gave donations following action by the probe agencies, only 37 per cent of the amount went to BJP and 63 per cent to opposition parties.

"There is an ED raid... the donation is made&nbsp;to the opposition, will BJP do this? This means 63 per cent of this amount went to the opposition and you are making allegations against us. Their goal is to keep skirting around and run away," he said.

The Supreme Court in February scrapped the electoral bonds scheme calling it "unconstitutional".

The INDIA opposition bloc leaders have&nbsp;been repeatedly slamming&nbsp;the Union&nbsp;government over the&nbsp;court decision and sharply criticising BJP.

The United Kingdom rebuffed Iran's claims that Tehran notified in advance before launching missile and drone attacks against Israel.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian on Sunday said that Tehran had informed its neighbouring countries about its retaliatory strikes on Israel almost 72 hours in advance.

Russia expresses concerns over escalation of tensions in Middle East, urges restraint

In a bid to strengthen ties between the two nations, China's top lawmaker Zhao Leji on Saturday (Apr 13) met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang and expressed Beijing's willingness to work towards boosting cooperation and deepening trust, said Chinese state media reports.

Zhao's official tour to North Korea marks the first visit by the highest-ranking Chinese official since the year 2018 when Li Zhanshu attended the 70th anniversary of North Korea's founding.

"No matter how the international situation changes, the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK, created and nurtured by the older generation of leaders from both parties and countries, remains deep-rooted and strong over time," Zhao said in a speech, according to China's Xinhua news agency.

Meanwhile, Kim Jong Un on Wednesday (Apr 10) said that unstable geopolitical situations surrounding the country meant now was the time to be more prepared for war than ever.&nbsp;

"Outlining the complicated international situation ... and the uncertain and unstable military and political situation around the DPRK, he said that now is the time to be more thoroughly prepared for a war than ever before," state media quoted Kim on Thursday.&nbsp;

His remarks came after Pyongyang on Tuesday fired a new hypersonic missile.&nbsp;

Overseeing the launch of the Hwasong-16B missile, the supreme leader called it a strategic weapon showcasing the "absolute superiority" of Pyongyang's defence technology, KCNA reported.&nbsp;

He said that the launch would provide North Korea with the capacity for "rapidly, accurately and powerfully striking any target in the enemy side worldwide".

His remarks came after Pyongyang on Tuesday fired a new hypersonic missile. Overseeing the launch of the Hwasong-16B missile, the supreme leader called it a strategic weapon showcasing the "absolute superiority" of Pyongyang's defence technology, KCNA reported. In Punjab, the grand old party has fielded former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi for the Jalandhar-SC Lok Sabha seat.

Sitting MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla has been fielded from the Amritsar seat, whereas Amar Singh has been handed the ticket from Fatehgarh Sahib (SC) Lok Sabha seat.

Former MP Dharamvir Gandhi has been handed the ticket from the Patiala Lok Sabha seat days after he quit the Aam Aadmi Party and joined Congress.

For the Sangrur seat, the party nominated All India Kisan wing supremo Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu from the Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency, which is currently represented by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief's wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal.&nbsp;

For Delhi, veteran politician JP Agarwal has been given the ticket from the Chandni Chowk seat against BJP candidate Praveen Khandelwal.

Kanhaiya Kumar has been fielded from North East Delhi against BJP North East Delhi candidate Manoj Tiwari.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded former Congress MP and former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh's wife Preneet Kaur from Patiala who had won the same seat in the 2019 general elections on Congress ticket.

Kaur was suspended by the Congress in February 2023 over alleged 'anti-party' activities and she joined the BJP in March this year.

AAP has fielded Dr Balbir Singh from the Patiala seat.

For the Amritsar seat, BJP fielded former Indian Ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

From the Jalandhar constituency, the party fielded AAP's lone MP Sushil Kumar Rinku who quit the Kejriwal-led outfit and joined the BJP last month.

For Faridkot, which is a reserved seat, the saffron party fielded singer and MP from North West Delhi Hans Raj Hans.

Karamjit Anmol has been nominated by AAP for the Faridkot.

Iran said that it had informed its neighbouring countries about its retaliatory strikes on Israel almost 72 hours in advance.

“About 72 hours prior to our operations, we informed our friends and neighbours in the region that Iran’s response against Israel was certain, legitimate, and irrevocable,” Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said at a press briefing after his meeting with foreign ambassadors in Tehran on Sunday (April 14).

Amirabdollahian further said that Tehran had notified the United States that its attacks launched against Israel would be "limited" and for self-defence purposes.

Iran on Saturday (Apr 13) launched an unprecedented attack against Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its Damascus consulate on April 1 that killed seven officers, including a senior commander of the IRGC. Israeli residents in Jerusalem said they did not want a war with Iran. A report by the news agency Reuters said that Israel reported modest damage and reopened its airspace.

The authorities instructed citizens not to hold gatherings of more than 100 people, to close all schools and venues for children's camps during the spring break for the Jewish holiday of Passover, and to close some beach and travel sites.&nbsp;

This conflict between Iran and Israel comes as Israel has been already fighting a war with Hamas since early October last year. Later on Sunday, the Israeli war cabinet will discuss a response to the Iranian attack.
