Flash floods in Oman claim lives of 12
Massive floods struck Oman on Sunday (Apr 14) claiming the lives of at least 12 people. The deceased included nine students, two Omani citizens and an expatriate whose vehicles were washed away by the floodwaters, according to Oman News Agency.
Five people were also reported missing in the flash floods, and as per local media reports, a search for them is currently underway.
"Among these four are children," the Civil Defense and Ambulance Department said.
The country was hit by torrential rains that led to deadly floods in various parts of Oman.

Severe flooding triggers evacuation
Intense flooding in the region led to severe damage to the property triggering massive evacuation in the areas hit by heavy rainfall where rescuers are helping people trapped inside floodwaters.
According to local media reports, people are trapped inside buildings and their vehicles in the country due to rising waters.
The Royal Oman Police said that the rescue operation was underway to help 20 people stranded in three different houses in Wadi bin Khalid, Al Qahm area.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation released a directive on Sunday (Apr 14) instructing schools and colleges in Oman to operate through online classes on Monday (Apr 15).
The heavy rainfall, which started on Sunday morning, battered parts of Oman causing significant damage in several areas.
According to the Oman News Agency, the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) is closely monitoring the situation and has activated the National Emergency Situations Management in order to launch coordinated response efforts.
