Iran's attack on Israel about two weeks after a senior Iranian military official and eight others were killed in a strike on Tehran's consulate in Damascus shook the world this weekend. While Israel will decide upon its course of action in response to Tehran's Sunday attack, it remains unclear if Iran would continue with such attacks inside Israel.
Iran's attack on Israel: In numbers
According to a report in the New York Times, Iran launched some 185 drones, 110 surface-to-surface missiles, and 36 cruise missiles at Israel. Most of the launches were from Iran but a small portion came from Iraq and Yemen, according to the officials cited by the US daily.
Iran reportedly used a cruise missile developed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, the Paveh 351 that has a range of more than 1,200 miles, according to Fabian Hinz, an expert on Iran’s military at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in Berlin.

The attack during Saturday through early hours of Sunday was the most sophisticated of all attacks faced by Israel since October 7, when Hamas militants stormed into southern Israel and killed about 1,200 people. The consequent retaliatory state of war in Gaza has killed more than 33,000 people.
Previously, Israel was attacked by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, whose rocket arsenal includes short-range (12 to 25 miles) and somewhat inaccurate 122-milimeter rockets of the Grad family, as well as Syrian-made M-302 rockets with a range of about 100 miles.

Hamas also has Fajr-5 rockets from Iran and a similar, locally made version of the Fajr-5, both with a range of about 50 miles.
According to IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Iran also fired 120 ballistic missiles at Israel.
Some of the missiles managed to bypass Israel’s defences, hitting the Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel. Hagari said slight damage was caused to infrastructure at Nevatim, but the airbase was running as usual. The IDF also released images showing fighter jets after their return from downing the Iranian drones and cruise missiles.
