As per local media reports, Sumanta Naik, who works as a compounder of Dandamunda hospital in Khaprakhol block of Balangir district had a narrow escape after a huge chunk of ceiling slab collapsed at the medicine ward on Monday.

“The incident took place at around 8.30 am yesterday. I and a few patients had a narrow escape. Following which, I decided to keep the motorcycle helmet on,” Odisha Bytes quoted Naik as saying.

This sparked outrage and panic among the patients and the staffers.

Local residents condemned concerned authorities' negligence for the poor condition&nbsp;of the hospital.

According to local media reports, the Out Patient Department (OPD) building of the health centre was constructed only five years ago. The sources said that chunks from the ceiling were peeling off due to poor construction work.&nbsp;

The locals have sought an inquiry into the matter.

A video of a police officer throwing a woman on the ground and pepper spraying her face in Los Angeles, California has gone viral on social media.&nbsp;

An investigation has been launched into the incident and the officers have been taken off field duty, according to the county sheriff's department.

As per the video, the incident took place outside the WinCo grocery store on W Ave K 4 on June 24.

As per the statement released by the department, at that time, the deputies were apprehending a man and a woman for supposedly&nbsp;shoplifting inside the store. "Why am I under arrest ... for what?" the man is heard saying in the bodycam footage. "You are not under arrest, you are being detained," responded the deputy.

"Detained for what?" the seemingly frustrated man asked. Another deputy said, "Calm down!"

The deputies, after placing the man in handcuffs, then walked towards the woman who was recording the incident on her mobile phone. She then yells, “No, you can't touch me!" as the deputies try&nbsp;to grab her by the arm.

42 African nations have till now received about $32 billion or 38% of all credit extended by India in the last decade, just a few percentage points below its neighbours, Harsha Bangari, the managing director of India’s Export-Import Bank said as per a Bloomberg report.

Bangari further said that the funding is an instrument of India's “economic diplomacy.” She then added that India has also opened up 195 project-based lines of credit worth about $12 billion across Africa, which is three times the number it has in its own region in the last decade.

“Africa has made good use of credit lines,” extended for projects that include health care, infrastructure, agriculture and irrigation and India is seeing a steady increase in demand, she said.

India, despite its recent efforts to engage with nations in Africa, the world's second-largest continent, has lagged behind its bigger and wealthier neighbours.

While China’s loans to Africa have plunged since 2016, overall in the 10 years to 2020, it promised $134.6 billion to African nations, as per data from Boston University’s Global Development Policy Center. That's almost 11 times more than what India has offered, according to Bloomberg reports.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has pushed for more significant engagement with the world's second-largest continent, Africa, encouraging both economic and diplomatic ties.

India is looking at the opportunity to expand deeper into the continent as Africa is currently dealing with the economic fallout of the Covid pandemic and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

In the last nine years, 18 of the 25 new Indian embassies or consulates were in Africa. In February, India hosted 48 African countries at the Voice of Global South summit.&nbsp;

The Indian Prime Minister has also been advocating the country as a representative of the Global South and employing platforms like its presidency of the Group of 20 nations to draw attention to the debt crises in developing economies. &nbsp;

“We are trying to think 25 years from now,” India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said in a speech on June 28.&nbsp;

“And ask ourselves where are we likely to be in 2047 and what should we be doing now to prepare for it,” he said.

Canada, Sweden, Ukraine and Britain on Wednesday, took Iran to the International Court of Justice in order to seek damages for families of passengers on a plane that was shot down by Tehran in the year 2020, said the tribunal.

The incident had claimed the lives of all 176 people aboard the Ukrainian jetliner downed by Iran.

As per the case at the United Nation's top court, Iran "violated a series of obligations" under a convention on civil aviation by shooting down Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 after take-off from Tehran.

On January 8, 2020, Iran admitted that its military had targeted the Kyiv-bound Boeing 737-800 plane calling it a "disastrous mistake".

In their application to the court, the four countries said Iran had breached "a series of obligations" against the Montreal Convention, targeted at safeguarding the security of civilian air travel.

They said that Iran did not take all possible measures to avert the downing of Flight PS752 and also failed to conduct an impartial, transparent and fair criminal probe and prosecution.

They asked the court to "order full reparation for all injury caused" and to make Iran pay "full compensation to the applicants for the material and moral damages suffered by the victims and their families".

Iran should also return the belongings of the victims and publicly acknowledge its "internationally wrongful acts".

The majority of the victims of the incident who lost their lives were from the four countries, which created a coordination group aiming to hold Iran to account.

Iran, in a statement, had said that its forces accidentally shot down the Boeing 737 jet during the time when the tensions between Tehran and Washington were heightened.

A final report issued in the year 2021, held a misaligned radar and an error by an air defence operator responsible for the tragic incident.

Canada at the time said the report made "no attempt to answer critical questions about what truly happened".&nbsp;

A woman tragically died on Monday while hiking amid searing heat in the Grand Canyon, a top tourist spot in the US, officials said.

The National Park Service (NPS), in a news release, said that on Sunday, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a US Park Ranger received a report of a distressed hiker in the Tuweep area of Grand Canyon National Park.

"The hiker, a 57-year-old female, was attempting an eight-mile hike in the remote Tuweep area of the park when she became unconscious. A ranger arrived on the scene at approximately 1 a.m. on July 3 and pronounced the hiker deceased. On July 2, the high temperature at Tuweep was well over 100°F (38°C), with the high temperature at Phantom Ranch, near the Colorado River along the North Kaibab trail, reached approximately 114°F (46°C)," read the press release by NPS.

"Park rangers at Grand Canyon National Park urge visitors to Grand Canyon, especially inner canyon hikers and backpackers, to be prepared for excessively hot days in the coming weeks. An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued for inner canyon portions of the Grand Canyon through Wednesday, July 5," the release added.

NPS said that temperatures on exposed parts of the trail can reach over 120°F (49 °C) in the shade.&nbsp;

"Park rangers strongly advise not hiking in the inner canyon during the heat of the day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.," it added.&nbsp;

Further cautioning the residents, the NPS said, "Hiking in extreme heat can lead to serious health risks including heat exhaustion, heat stroke, hyponatremia, and death."

The NPS then confirmed that a probe into this incident is being conducted in coordination with the Mohave County Medical Examiner.

United States officials on Friday released a statement saying that at least 13 people lost their lives due to extreme heat waves in the southern United States, amid heavy air pollution in other parts of the country due to smoke from wildfires in Canada.

"As of Wednesday, there have been 11 total deaths," local officials said in a statement to AFP. "Ten are Webb County residents, the 11th death was from a neighbouring county that was brought to a local hospital and unfortunately passed away."

A 14-year-old died due to scorching heat while he was hiking in Big Bend National Park in Texas. The temperature there had reached 119 Fahrenheit (48 Celsius), said the local officials.

They further added that a 62-year-old woman lost her life in the neighbouring state of Louisiana last week after a storm left thousands of families without power and thus without air conditioning.

French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting of mayors on Tuesday said the peak of riots had passed. However, he added he was still cautious to call an end to the violence.

Macron had met with hundreds of French officials on Tuesday to get to the depth of the reason behind the country's descent into violence after a teenager was shot dead by the police in the Paris suburb of Nanterre for fleeing a traffic check.

The meeting with more than 300 mayors came after authorities reported a much calmer night across the country.

"We all want a lasting, republican order," Macron said. "That's the absolute priority."

At the gathering of mayors, Macron was hoping to "start the painstaking, long-term work needed to understand the deeper reasons that led to these events", an official at the president's office said.

Macron pitched the idea of handing out quick-fire fines to the parents of children caught for destruction or theft.

"With the first crime, we need to find a way of sanctioning the families financially and easily," he said, according to comments reported by the Parisien newspaper.

As per BBC reports, the man, named Patient A, was found unresponsive in the car with his pants down.&nbsp;

He reportedly died due to heart failure and chronic kidney disease triggered by a medical episode.

Williams was struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for bringing disgrace to the noble profession.

A hearing was told that Patient A was found at the back of his car at the hospital after he and Williams met in the parking area.

The panel heard that Williams, who was married and worked as a general nurse on a renal unit, met the patient a year ago.

He was suffering from multiple health issues and was being treated in the same unit where the nurse worked.

<h2>Williams did not call an ambulance</h2>

The night when the incident took place, Williams had visited her colleague's home before meeting with Patient A.

According to BBC, just before midnight, her co-worker received a call from her asking for help.

The panel heard she was "crying and distressed and asking for help".

She was then advised by her co-worker to call an ambulance after she informed them of the man's death, which she did not.

Shortly after the call, when her colleague arrived at the car parking spot, the ambulance was called on finding the man half-naked and unresponsive.&nbsp;

He was pronounced dead by the doctors after being taken to the hospital.

Initially, Williams informed the police that she went to the car parking area of the hospital after receiving a call from the patient saying that he was unwell. However, the very next day, she admitted to the police of having a sexual relationship with the man.

In the month of February, she denied this to officials from the health board.

She claimed that the two sat in the back seat of the car for about 30-45 minutes just talking before the man "began groaning and suddenly died".

Then later at a disciplinary hearing in the month of May, Williams admitted to having a secret relationship and also not calling the ambulance when the patient died.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council panel deemed her act of not admitting the relationship as "putting her own interests ahead of the wellbeing of Patient A".

They then found this equivalent to serious misconduct and also found her unfit to practice nursing.

Striking her off from the nursing register, the panel concluded there were no mitigating features.

"Mrs Williams' actions were significant departures from the standards expected of a registered nurse, and are fundamentally incompatible with her remaining on the register," it said, as per BBC.

"The panel was of the view that the findings in this particular case demonstrate that Mrs Williams' actions were so serious that to allow her to continue practising would undermine public confidence in the profession and in the NMC as a regulatory body."

"A totally innocent man is being kept in custody," he said in coverage carried live on several independent TV channels. "I did not commit any crime."

"Putting me in jail will not break me. I am going to be actively involved in Georgian politics," he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday urged the Georgian ambassador to Kyiv to return home and make efforts to save Georgia's jailed former president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Saakashvili, who was the leader of Georgia from 2004 to 2013, was imprisoned in the year 2021 after coming back from banishment on abuse of power charges that rights groups condemn as politically motivated.

Zelensky made Saakashvili a Ukrainian citizen in the year 2019. He took to Twitter and accused Tbilisi of increasingly cooperating with Moscow.

"Right now, Russia is killing Ukrainian citizen Mykhailo Saakashvili at the hands of the Georgian authorities. We have repeatedly called on the official Tbilisi to stop this abuse and agree on Saakashvili's return to Ukraine. Our partners, in coordination with Ukraine, have also offered various rescue options," Zelensky said on Twitter.&nbsp;

"Today, I instructed the ministry of foreign affairs to summon the Georgian ambassador to Ukraine, to express our strong protest and to ask him to leave Ukraine within 48 hours to hold consultations with his capital," the tweet read.

He then called on the Georgian authorities to hand over Saakashvili to Ukraine for his necessary treatment.

"Once again, I call on the Georgian authorities to hand over Ukrainian citizen Mykhailo Saakashvili to Ukraine for the necessary treatment and care. And I urge our partners to address this situation and not ignore it and save this man. No government in Europe has the right to execute people, life is a basic European value," he further wrote.

“Unknown miscreants burned down the house of Seilen Haokip, Kuki National Organisation (KNO) spokesperson last night. This comes after KNO/United Peoples Front (UPF) lifted the blockade of National Highway-2,” Hindustan Times quoted ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong as saying.

The incident took place a day after Manipur insurgent groups, United People's Front (UPF) and National Organisation (KNO), decided to lift the blockade at Kangui (Kangpokpi) on NH2 with immediate effect to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in the violence-hit state.

UPF spokesperson Aaron Kipgen and KNO spokesperson Seilen Haokip said, "Notwithstanding the anger and anguish of the Kuki Zo people, keeping in view Amit Shah, Union Home Minister's deep concern to restore peace and harmony in the State and alleviate the plight of people in general, the United People's Front and Kuki National Organisation have decided to lift the blockade at Kangui (Kangpokpi) on NH2 with immediate effect to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities in the State. The decision was taken after wide-ranging consultations with Civil Society organisations, village chiefs, youth, and women's leaders on several occasions."

The ongoing conflict has disturbed the traditional communal harmony in the state of Manipur. The Kuki Zo people have suffered immensely from continued offensives by miscreants and have urged the authorities to protect their lives and properties," said the statement.

"We appreciate that central forces have been deployed in most of these areas as assured, and the process is in progress. Once the deployment of Central Forces is completed in all vulnerable areas, we will ensure that our volunteers are withdrawn from these areas to help restore peace and tranquility. It is expected that the concerned authorities will take every measure to maintain peace and ensure the supply of essential commodities to the needy, particularly in the hill districts. We also take this opportunity to appeal to all peace-loving organisations and citizens in the State of Manipur to reciprocate our gesture and take steps towards peace and communal harmony in the State," said the press statement issued by UPF and KNO.

According to KTRK, the authorities in the year 2015&nbsp;reported that Farias was diagnosed with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anxiety.&nbsp;

His family members said that his condition worsened after his brother's demise in a road accident years ago, as per NBC News.

"He watched his best friend die right in front of him," NBC quoted Brenda Paradise, a private investigator hired by the Farias family, as saying in April 2015. "His brother was his best friend in the world. He’s just gone through so much more than anyone his age ever should."

According to the authorities, the search was temporarily suspended for Farias on March 10, 2015.&nbsp;However, work was extensively in progress to gather more details about the incident.

On March 12, the search was run on but it again ended the very next day.

The authorities, while concluding the search on March 13, 2015, thanked the team for their commitment and continued looking for Farias in rain-soaked fields.

The 25-year-old was confirmed as safe by the authorities on Sunday, July 2.

According to KTRK, Farias' mother said they have tried talking to him, but he will only say a few words and go into a fetal position. She further said that it would be a long healing journey for her son but she is happy that he is alive.

According to the authorities, the search was temporarily suspended for Farias on March 10, 2015. However, work was extensively in progress to gather more details about the incident. On March 12, the search was run on but it again ended the very next day. The authorities, while concluding the search on March 13, 2015, thanked the team for their commitment and continued looking for Farias in rain-soaked fields. The 25-year-old was confirmed as safe by the authorities on Sunday, July 2. According to KTRK, Farias' mother said they have tried talking to him, but he will only say a few words and go into a fetal position.
