Enemies and Neighbours: Arabs and Jews in Palestine and Israel 1917-2017 by Ian Black

The Iraq War was an armed conflict in the country from 2003 to 2011. It started with the United States' invasion of Iraq which overthrew Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist government. After the fall of the government, the insurgency opposed the post-invasion Iraqi government and the coalition forces.

The latest state of war in Israel, the deadliest in decades, has put the spotlight back on Israel-Palestine conflict. These are must-read books on it:

<p>The words 'Holocaust' and 'Shoah' (Hebrew for catastrophe) gained&nbsp;traction on social media in Israel during the course of Oct 9 and Oct 10 after hundreds of Israeli citizens, mostly Jews, were killed in a wave of deadly attacks by Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Holocaust is a reference to the genocide of over 6 million European Jews during the Second World War committed by the Nazis who owed allegiance to the German dictator Adolf Hitler.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In its modern-day independent existence since 1948, Israel was initially almost completely constituted of Holocaust survivors. They were the people who survived the death camps or managed to stay put during a period of visceral hatred against Jewish people in Europe during the Second World War.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At least until 1972, radio broadcasts in Tel Aviv would routinely announce the names of "missing people" who survived the Holocaust and were looking for their relatives in the hope of finding them alive in Israel: "the promised land".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Most present-day inhabitants of Israel are descendants of the Jewish people who survived persecution in one form or another during the Second World War or the periods and centuries preceding it when waves of antisemitism led to the massacre&nbsp;of Jewish people.&nbsp;</p>

<p>For these same reasons, the Holocaust is an integral part of the Israeli social fabric, where memorials are held regularly to commemorate major moments of persecution, and museums such as Yad Vashem stand witness to the phases of atrocities faced by the world's first Abrahamic community through centuries.</p>

<h2><strong>How Holocaust's generational trauma has resurfaced in Israel after Hamas attack?</strong></h2>

<p>So far, at least 900 Israeli people, most of them Jews, have been killed by a wave of armed attacks launched by Hamas from inside the Gaza Strip. According to Israel's President Isaac Herzog, "not since the Holocaust have so many Jews been killed on one day." Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid termed it the "worst day since Holocaust".</p>

<p>According to the Times of Israel, the claim appears to be accurate. There have been days of violence and similar bloodshed in Israel’s history and for Jews around the world since 1945, but none has had a civilian death toll this high.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While there have been higher casualty tolls, these many civilians have not been murdered in a single day.</p>

<p>Between the last few months of 1947 into 1949, 6,000 citizens of Israel died during its war of independence. But that is considered the death toll in its entirety for a period of nearly two years. Besides, most casualties were soldiers, not civilians.</p>

<p>In 1946, a pogrom in Kielce, Poland, killed at least 42 Jews. US President Joe Biden interrogated in classified documents row

Niger military rulers say French army's exit operations to begin Tuesday

<p>The contested peace between Israel and Palestine came to a fierce end over the weekend as Islamic Jihad and HAMAS — the latter is the most dominant Islamist militant group in control of Palestine since 2007 — launched the most ferocious attack on the Jewish state in over 50 years.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The phrase <b>50 years&nbsp;</b>has become the defining expression of the Israeli sentiment as the country's defence forces battle to clear the Israeli territories from the Palestinian militants. It's the worst attack on Israel in the last fifty years. And, Israel's Defence Minister&nbsp;Yoav Gallant deployed it as a phrase of retaliation in his address to the nation on Saturday (October 7).</p>

<p>"We will change reality on the ground in Gaza for the next 50 years. What was before, will be no more. We will operate at full force," Gallant said.</p>

The contested peace between Israel and Palestine came to a fierce end over the weekend as Islamic Jihad and HAMAS — the latter is the most dominant Islamist militant group in control of Palestine since 2007 — launched the most ferocious attack on the Jewish state in over 50 years.

The contested peace between Israel and Palestine came to a fierce end over the weekend as Islamic Jihad and HAMAS — the latter is the most dominant Islamist militant group in control of Palestine since 2007 — launched the most ferocious attack on the Jewish state in over 50 years. The phrase 50 years has become the defining expression of the Israeli sentiment as the country's defence forces battle to clear the Israeli territories from the Palestinian militants. It's the worst attack on Israel in the last fifty years. And, Israel's Defence Minister Yoav Gallant deployed it as a phrase of retaliation in his address to the nation on Saturday (October 7). "We will change reality on the ground in Gaza for the next 50 years. What was before, will be no more. We will operate at full force," Gallant said. אזרחי ישראל, במיוחד בשעות קשות אלו, התאזרו בסבלנות וגבו את כוחות הביטחון. pic.twitter.com/psu4BOJg3w — יואב גלנט - Yoav Gallant (@yoavgallant) October 7, 2023 × Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late on Saturday that the country was "embarking on a long and difficult war" and that all the places where Hamas is based in Gaza or operates from will be turned "into rubble". The Capitals: Jerusalem vows to change ground reality in Palestine 'for next 50 years'

5 Things Gen-Z Must Remember to Excel at Work

Use the internet and educate yourself on terms like Variable Pay and the full meaning of how much money you will take home. Your passion may give you gratification but ultimately the money matters.

2. Your ideas may be fresh but not mature

It's great that you have new ideas at work and keep them coming. For that they display the generational shift of the status quo. But while you may have the foresight, your seniors at work come with years of the benefit of their hindsight. Use that benefit wisely.

You may have the energy to work the hardest in a room. But excess of that will be counterproductive. Meditate to have those moments of silence.

Your dreams and ambitions are the guiding light for your success. But if you're working hard and gratification from work is consistent, trust the process. Nobody has all of it figured out and you don't have to be hard on yourself to figure it all out then and there as well.

If Gilian Anderson's character from the final season of Netflix's Sex Education must be an example, then an inter-generational camaraderie at work is rare. If you have that at your workplace, cherish it. If you don't, then well, keep the eye on the prize and hustle your way through it.

Gen-Z are struggling for stability and that are workplace remains at prime. Here's what Gen-Z must do to excel at workplace
