<p><strong>Bihar Lok Sabha Elections Results 2024: </strong>Out of the 40 seats in the eastern state of&nbsp;Bihar, JD(U) and BJP emerged victorious on 15 each.&nbsp;Lok Janshakti Party(Ram Vilas) or LJPRV won five seats. Rashtriya&nbsp;Janata Dal (RJD) won four seats, Congress three seats,&nbsp;Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) - CPI(ML)(L) two seats,&nbsp;Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) - HAMS one seat and independent one seat.</p>

<p>The state went to polls for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 on April 19 and voted in all the seven phases.</p>

<p>In this Lok Sabha election, Bihar is one of the key battleground states for the Opposition INDIA bloc and the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The coalition of BJP and JD(U) is hoping to redo their stunning performance of 2019, however, the INDIA bloc has relentlessly campaigned in the state.</p>

<p>In Bihar, the NDA has been relying on the ‘Modi factor’ while the political campaign of the INDIA bloc has entirely relied on the shoulders of RJD leader and Lalu’s son Tejashwi Yadav.</p>

<p>In the Indian state of Bihar, the major issues in this election have been unemployment and inflation.</p>

Chhattisgarh is one of the crucial states when it comes to Lok Sabha polls. The state, which is ruled by the BJP government, has 11 Lok Sabha seats. Chhattisgarh Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Full list of winners

<p><strong>Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024:&nbsp;</strong>In Maharashtra, the ruling&nbsp;three-party&nbsp;Mahayuti alliance including&nbsp;BJP managed to garner 17 seats, while the opposition alliance, Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) which includes Congress bagged 30 out of the 48&nbsp;seats across the west Indian state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The voting for the world’s largest election concluded on Saturday (Jun 1) after voters cast their ballots in the last and seventh phases. The results were announced on Tuesday (Jun 4).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Voting in the west Indian state of Maharashtra was held in the first five phases of the election between April 19 and May 20.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Maharashtra has the second-highest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament. Out of the 543 seats for which the election was conducted this year, Maharashtra has 48, the second-highest after Uttar Pradesh which has 80.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Indian state has seen a major shift in alliances and parties, particularly since 2014 when the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance came to power at the Centre following the general elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In 2022, Maharashtra witnessed a high-stakes political crisis when Shiv Sena – founded by the late Balasaheb Thackeray – member Eknath Shinde cross-voted for the BJP and later broke up the party.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Eventually, Shinde joined the ruling party and formed a BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government in Maharashtra.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nearly all exit polls released on June 1 had showed the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar) (NCP (SCP)) make substantial gains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The state is currently led by the Mahayuti alliance comprising of BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.&nbsp;</p>

Voting in the west Indian state of Maharashtra was held in the first five phases of the election between April 19 and May 20. Maharashtra has the second-highest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament. Out of the 543 seats for which the election was conducted this year, Maharashtra has 48, the second-highest after Uttar Pradesh which has 80. The Indian state has seen a major shift in alliances and parties, particularly since 2014 when the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance came to power at the Centre following the general elections. In 2022, Maharashtra witnessed a high-stakes political crisis when Shiv Sena – founded by the late Balasaheb Thackeray – member Eknath Shinde cross-voted for the BJP and later broke up the party. Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Opposition bags 30 out of 48 seats; BJP, allies trail with 17

<p>The NIA on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and 11 others for their alleged involvement in the killing of Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi last year, according to an official statement.</p>

<p>Brar has been designated a terrorist by the government under the anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He has been involved in the smuggling of high-grade arms, ammunition and explosive materials through drones from across the border, supplying them for carrying out killings and also providing sharpshooters.</p>

<p>According to the statement, NIA investigations have revealed the involvement of the notorious terrorist-gangster syndicate behind the killing of Gogamedi, who was shot dead in the living room of his house in Shyam Nagar colony in Jaipur in December 2023.</p>

<p>Two others - Naveen Shekhawat and Ajeet Singh - were killed while Gogamedi's gunman Narender Singh was injured in the attack.</p>

<p>Moving swiftly with its investigations in the case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested eight persons for their involvement in the conspiracy to kill Gogamedi, the statement from the federal probe agency said.</p>

<p>Four others, including gangsters Mahendra Kumar, Ravataram Swami alias Rohit Godara, Virendra Charan, and Satwinder Singh alias Goldy Brar, are still absconding, said the NIA statement.</p>

<p>In its charge sheet filed before the NIA Special Court in Jaipur, the NIA has charged all the 12 identified accused, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Arms Act and UAPA.</p>

<p>NIA investigations have revealed that Rohit Godara was the mastermind who had hatched the murder conspiracy along with accused Virendra Charan, Goldy Brar and others. After the killing, Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar claimed responsibility and used it to threaten and extort money from other people, the statement said.</p>

<p>The two assailants -- Rohit Rathore and Nitin -- had received pistols and several rounds of bullets for carrying out the attack on Gogamedi, the probe agency said.</p>

<p>"Rahul had taken the help of accused Bhawani Singh to hire the services of Nitin Fauji for the attack. Bhawani was provided weapons and shelter by one Ashok Kumar," the statement said.</p>

<p>It was Udham Singh who, along with Bhawani Singh and Rahul, had sent Nitin to Jaipur to execute the plan. Accused Rambeer had given shelter to Nitin despite knowing of his involvement in another arms case, the agency said.</p>

India: NIA chargesheets Goldy Brar and 11 others in Karni Sena chief murder case

<p>Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has achieved a stunning world milestone by spending a total of 1,000 days in space. He achieved the remarkable feat by surpassing his own record.</p>

<p>The 59-year-old cosmonaut, who made history in February by surpassing fellow Russian Gennady Padalka's record of 879 consecutive days in space, has now broken the total time spent in orbit.</p>

<p>It was previously set by Padalka at 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds.</p>

<p>Kononenko's latest space flight&nbsp;began on September 15, 2023, when he launched aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft alongside cosmonaut Nikolai Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara.</p>

<p>Scheduled to return in September 2024, Kononenko will have spent 1,110 days in orbit by then.</p>

<p>The Russian space agency Roscosmos announced the milestone on Telegram saying, "Today at 00:00:20 Moscow time, Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko for the first time in world history spent a total of 1,000 days in space flight."</p>

<p>Emmanuel Urquieta, former chief medical officer of the NASA-funded Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), reflected on Kononenko's achievement and told a media outlet, “It takes a special kind of person to be able to achieve such a record."</p>

<h2><strong>Astronauts celebrate&nbsp;Kononenko's feat&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) celebrated Kononenko's feat by forming a "1000" behind him for a photo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a statement to the Russian state news agency TASS, Kononenko shared his sentiments while clinching the world record for maximum time in space flight.&nbsp;</p>

The 59-year-old cosmonaut, who made history in February by surpassing fellow Russian Gennady Padalka's record of 879 consecutive days in space, has now broken the total time spent in orbit. It was previously set by Padalka at 878 days, 11 hours, 29 minutes, and 48 seconds. Kononenko's latest space flight began on September 15, 2023, when he launched aboard the Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft alongside cosmonaut Nikolai Chub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara. Scheduled to return in September 2024, Kononenko will have spent 1,110 days in orbit by then. <p>One setback for BJP was its lack of alliance with the AIADMK. The exit polls released on June 1 projected that the BJP would be able to open its account in Tamil Nadu by securing four seats, however results showed a decisive victory for the DMK.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Even as anti-incumbency was seen against the DMK government, the results were in its favour.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, the battle in the state was among the INDIA bloc, which includes the DMK; All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).</p>

<p>As part of the seat-sharing pact, AIADMK was fighting from 32 seats and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) was contesting from five. Interestingly, AIADMK and BJP were in alliance until September of 2023 but the two parted ways for the Lok Sabha Elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Assam Lok Sabha elections 2024: In the northeastern state of Assam, the BJP wins&nbsp;11 out of 14 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections.</strong></p>

<p>The elections in Assam were conducted in three phases from April 19 to May 7, to elect 14 members to the 18th Lok Sabha.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Assam accounts for the largest share of Lok Sabha seats—14 of 25 Lok Sabha seats—in the eight northeastern states.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP and its allies in National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance won 19 seats and the Congress won only four—three in Assam and one in Meghalaya.</p>

<p>The BJP also bagged a notable vote share of 36 per cent while the Congress bagged 35.4 per cent of the votes.</p>

<p>Some of the prominent faces contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Assam include former CM of Assam and BJP candidate from Dibrugarh Sarbananda Sonowal, Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi (son of former CM of Assam Tarun Gogoi) from Jorhat, Phani Bhushan Choudhury of AGP-BJP, Deep Bayan of Congress and Manoranjan Talukdar of CPI(M).

<p>Five children deaf by birth have regained their hearing in both ears in a gene therapy trial.</p>

<p>The trial, conducted by doctors at Fudan University in Shanghai, targeted children aged between one and 11 who suffered from genetic mutations preventing the production of a crucial protein for auditory signal transmission.</p>

<p>This therapy has now enabled the children to detect sound directions.</p>

<p>These young patients started to show positive results only after a few weeks. Among the improvements were locating sounds, recognising&nbsp;speech even in noisy environments and even enjoying music.</p>

<p>Dr. Zheng-Yi Chen from Harvard teaching hospital for eye and ear&nbsp;that co-led the trial described the results as a “turning point" and highlighted that the children’s hearing continued to improve "dramatically".</p>

<p>"This is absolutely a turning point," Chen told AFP news agency.</p>

<p>In a positive development, he also suggested that companies are now conducting clinical trials so that they can get approvals. "If the results hold, without any complications, I think in three to five years, it may be a medically approved product," he added.</p>

<p>The therapy involves using an inactive virus for introducing working copies of the affected gene, Otof, into the inner ear. This allows ear cells to produce the protein otoferlin which is essential for hearing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Gandhi said that he is yet to decide which seat he will retain. "I need to decide which seat I will retain. I haven't decided yet," he said in the press conference.</p>

<p>Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who also accompanied Rahul Gandhi to the press conference commented on the election results, saying, "This election results are 'janata ka result'...It is clear this mandate is against Modi ji. This is his moral and political defeat."</p>
