Arsene Wenger has contradicted a claim by Bayern Munich that they turned him down for the vacant head coach's job and accused the defending German champions of a lack of discretion.

Bayern need a new coach after Niko Kovac was sacked last Sunday with former Germany assistant Hansi Flick appointed interim boss for Wednesday's win over Olympiakos and Saturday's home league game against Dortmund.

On Thursday, Bayern put out a statement claiming Wenger had called club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to express interest in replacing Kovac, but said the former Arsenal boss had been turned down.

However, Wenger, 70, rejected those version of events and criticised Bayern for leaking "rumours from everywhere".

"My name came out of nowhere," said Wenger in an interview with beIN Sports on Friday.

"On Wednesday, Rummenigge called me, I called back out of courtesy.

"We talked for four or five minutes, maximum, and he reported that they signed Flick (as interim coach) for the next two games.&nbsp;

"He asked me if I would be interested because they are looking for a coach."

Wenger says he told Rummenigge that he would think about it and "we decided together" to talk again "next week because I am in Doha until Sunday night. This is a true story."

After a decade as Bayern's president, Uli Hoeness will step down on Friday and Wenger said Bayern are at a "turning point" with Rummenigge also set to quit as chairman within the coming year.

Between them, Hoeness and Rummenigge have helped grow Bayern into one of the most successful clubs in Europe.

"It seems that the future is uncertain" at Bayern, said Wenger who added that the German club had always been "very discreet and direct" in the past, "but today (they are) very exposed with rumours coming from everywhere".

"The players we thought about to make this team better were really expensive and we could not spend the money," said the 52-year-old German.

French insurer AXA&nbsp;said it expected to book net proceeds of $3.1 billion from the sale of a 29 per cent&nbsp;stake in AXA Equitable Holdings (EQH)&nbsp;as it exits its US&nbsp;life insurance business.

AXA, the second-largest European insurer after Germany's Allianz, has been gradually divesting from EQH to raise funds to pay for its $15 billion acquisition of Bermuda-based rival XL last year.

AXA said in a statement on Friday it had sold 144 million EQH shares at $21.80 per share to Goldman Sachs, the sole underwriter in a secondary public share offering expected to close on November&nbsp;13.

EQH has agreed to repurchase 24 million shares at the same price.

AXA said that proceeds from the deal would boost the group's Solvency II capital requirements ratio by six points and that no significant net income impact was expected.

After the deal, the French group will retain only a 9.6 per cent&nbsp;stake it needs to redeem an AXA bond maturing in May 2021 that has to be exchangeable in EQH shares.

"In terms of performance, our focus will be on the major tournaments that we will be playing from now till 2022 - 2023. This also includes the Asia Cup which we would like to win again and qualify for the World Cup even though we get an automatic qualification as hosts. The World Cup in 2018 was the best that the hockey fraternity had ever seen and Odisha Government ensured the hospitality and infrastructure was top-notch so the next World Cup in India will surely have high expectations in terms of how it's hosted," Singh said.

"I could do a pre-season, something I hadn't been able to do. Now I'm 100% fit... This will help me for the rest of the season."

Iran said Saturday it is now enriching uranium to five per cent, after a series of steps back from its commitments under a troubled 2015 accord with major powers.

The deal set a 3.67 per cent limit for <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/iran-resumes-uranium-enrichment-at-fordow-plant-in-new-stepback-from-deal-260499">uranium enrichment</a> but Iran announced it would no longer respect it after Washington unilaterally abandoned the agreement last year and reimposed crippling sanctions.&nbsp;

"Based on our needs and what we have been ordered, we are currently producing five per cent," Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi told a press conference.

He said Iran has the "capacity to produce five per cent, twenty per cent, sixty per cent, or any percentage" of enriched uranium, a claim often repeated by Tehran.

Uranium enrichment is the sensitive process that produces fuel for nuclear power plants but also, in highly extended form, the fissile core for a warhead.

The current five per cent level exceeds the limit set by the accord but is less than the 20 per cent Iran had previously operated and far less than the 90 per cent level required for a warhead.

In its fourth step away from the agreement, Iran resumed enrichment at the Fordow plant south of Tehran on Thursday, with engineers feeding uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6) into the plant's mothballed enrichment centrifuges.

Iran was already enriching uranium at another plant in Natanz.

Tehran emphasises the measures it has taken are swiftly reversible if the remaining parties to the deal,&nbsp;Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia,&nbsp;find a way to get around US sanctions.

On July 1, Iran said it had increased its stockpile of enriched uranium to beyond a 300-kilogramme maximum set by the deal, and a week later, it announced it had exceeded the enrichment cap.

The third move had it firing up advanced centrifuges on September 7 to enrich uranium faster and to higher levels.

He said Iran has the "capacity to produce five per cent, twenty per cent, sixty per cent, or any percentage" of enriched uranium, a claim often repeated by Tehran. Uranium enrichment is the sensitive process that produces fuel for nuclear power plants but also, in highly extended form, the fissile core for a warhead. The current five per cent level exceeds the limit set by the accord but is less than the 20 per cent Iran had previously operated and far less than the 90 per cent level required for a warhead. In its fourth step away from the agreement, Iran resumed enrichment at the Fordow plant south of Tehran on Thursday, with engineers feeding uranium hexafluoride gas (UF6) into the plant's mothballed enrichment centrifuges. Iran was already enriching uranium at another plant in Natanz. Tehran emphasises the measures it has taken are swiftly reversible if the remaining parties to the deal, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia, find a way to get around US sanctions. On July 1, Iran said it had increased its stockpile of enriched uranium to beyond a 300-kilogramme maximum set by the deal, and a week later, it announced it had exceeded the enrichment cap. The third move had it firing up advanced centrifuges on September 7 to enrich uranium faster and to higher levels.

Social movement "Occupy Tundikhel" has been launched in Nepal to protect one of the largest parade squares of South Asia. 
 
The movement was announced in Kathmandu on Saturday morning and a human chain was formed around the open space of Tundikhel to draw attention to the issue and raise awareness amongst people. 
 
Activists and people who formed the human chain to preserve Tundikhel, one of the last surviving open spaces in the heart of Kathmandu, carried placards and banners asking the government to preserve the open area which is now shrinking. 
 
In an ANI exclusive, environment activist, Rupa Joshi said, "Seeing Kathmandu Valley shrink-shrink-and-shrink with concrete and less and less open space, and with my children- now, I have four grandchildren I look at their future; I am in my 60s and how many years do I have? But when I look at the younger ones and what are we leaving for them? Where are the open spaces?" 
 
"There is so much greed for space that people are just grabbing land whether it belongs to a school or any other open space to build a mall or for any other purpose. How many malls do we need, how many shops do we need? How is that important for the children and young people?" she added. 
 
Tundikhel, which also covers the Army Pavilion, dates back to at least the early 18th Century during the Malla period. It then served as a military parade ground, horse race track, spot for religious festivals, as well as a public park and grazing ground. 
 
But over the years, it has shrunk in size and is still being encroached. It was used to dump rubble from the 2015 earthquake and even today debris from government construction activities that are underway is deposited here. 
 
In the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, thousands of people took shelter in the open space of the square for a long time. 
 
Analysts claim that the movement is a step to preserve history, as it was once the largest parade ground of South Asia. 
 
"After the earthquake of 2015, the youths of Kathmandu witnessed the loss of heritage sites. Then understanding about the preservation of their heritage developed amongst them. It led them to start the campaign to preserve temples and other cultural aspects," said Sudeep Shrestha, a journalist from the Kathmandu Valley.

Thousands join 'Occupy Tundikhel' campaign to protect Nepal's biggest parade square

Bangladeshi President Md&nbsp;Abdul Hamid will pay a three-day "goodwill" visit to Nepal from November 12 to 15, the Himalayan nation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. 
 
"At the invitation of the President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Md. Abdul Hamid is paying an official goodwill visit to Nepal from November 12 to 15, 2019," a release from the ministry stated. 
 
The release also outlined that the President of Bangladesh will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport upon his arrival. 
 
During the three-day visit, the Bangladeshi President will meet his Nepali counterpart, as well as the Vice President, Prime Minister, Chairperson of 
the National Assembly and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal. 
 
Hamid is also slated to hold engagements with other Nepali political leaders. 
 
"While in Nepal, the President of Bangladesh will also visit Pokhara and the historical, archaeological and cultural sites in the Kathmandu Valley," the release added.

He has met with top leaders in Najaf and Baghdad, piling on the pressure to close ranks around Abdel Mahdi.

A source present at some of those meetings told AFP Soleimani had met with populist cleric Moqtada Sadr, who had vocally backed the protests, and Mohammed Ridha Sistani, the son of Iraq's top Shiite cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani.

"Those meetings resulted in an agreement that Abdel Mahdi would remain in office," the source said.&nbsp;

Public anger erupted into <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/iraqs-top-shiite-cleric-sistani-says-security-forces-must-keep-peace-260801">demonstrations</a> on October 1 against corruption and a lack of jobs, escalating into calls for the entire ruling system to be overturned.
