Barrister Varun Ghosh became the first ever Indian-origin Senator of the Australian Parliament to take oath on the "Bhagavad Gita".

Varun Ghosh from Western Australia has been appointed as the newest Senator after the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council chose him to represent the Australian state in the Senate of the Federal Parliament. Welcoming Varun Ghosh, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said, "Wonderful to have you on the Labor Senate team."

Senator Ghosh is the first-ever Australian Senator to have sworn-in on the "Bhagavad Gita". 
 
"I have often said, when you're the first at something, you've got to make sure you're not the last," the Minister posted on X and added, "I know Senator Ghosh will be a strong voice for his community and for West Australians."

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also wished Varun Ghosh. "Welcome Varun Ghosh, our newest Senator from Western Australia. Fantastic to have you on the team," he posted on X.

Taking to X, the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia said, "The Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council have chosen Senator Varun Ghosh to represent Western Australia in the Senate of the Federal Parliament."

Varun Ghosh is a Perth-based lawyer. He was a Commonwealth Scholar in Law at the University of Cambridge and held degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Western Australia. He has previously held positions as a consultant for the World Bank in Washington, DC, and as a finance attorney in New York. 
 
Varun Ghosh's political career started in Perth when he joined the Labor Party of Australia. He was just 17 years old when his parents relocated from India.

"I have had the privilege of a good education and believe strongly that high-quality education and training should be available to everyone," Varun Ghosh said in a statement.

His involvement in public service is indicative of his dedication to providing high-quality education.&nbsp; 
 
Prior to taking on his current position, Ghosh practiced finance law in New York and served as a World Bank consultant in Washington, DC.

In 2015, he went back to Australia and started working with King &amp; Wood Mallesons, handling legal cases for banks, resource businesses, and building firms.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared on Tuesday that the Modi government is committed to build an impenetrable barrier over the whole 1643-kilometre Indo-Myanmar border, which is a big step towards enhancing border security. According to Shah, the project's objectives are to strengthen national security and reduce illegal activity in the area.

A significant milestone has already been reached with the successful fencing of a 10-kilometre section in Moreh, Manipur, Amit Shah informed.

"In addition, two trial projects utilising hybrid surveillance systems (HSS) for fencing are now being carried out. They will fence one kilometre each in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh," he stated, adding that fence work totaling about 20 kilometres in Manipur has also been sanctioned and will shortly begin.

The historic town of Lahaina was destroyed by wildfires nearly six months ago. The Maui Police Department announced on Monday that it is working to improve its response to tragedies in the future, by acquiring better equipment and designating a high-ranking officer to be stationed in the communications centre during emergencies on the island.

The Maui Police Department put in a great deal of effort, working with other emergency response organisations, to undertake evacuations, protect the safety of our citizens, and assist those in need, the report said.

Many of the report’s recommendations call for better equipment and updates to technology, from getting officers earpieces they can use when high winds make it hard to hear their radios to equipping patrol cars with breaching kits to remove downed trees or utility poles from roadways.

Police Chief John Pelletier announced at a press conference on Monday that law enforcement agencies nationwide will receive copies of the after-action report to aid in their disaster preparedness. He defended its thoroughness, saying that it would not be finalised for up to a year to allow for the incorporation of proposals, and that it had been evaluated by two outside agencies.

Pelletier described the extensive efforts made to find the remains of three people who are still listed as missing in the wildfire.

“We created strategies of where they might have escaped to and then we sent anthropological teams to go to those estimated escape routes and then we got excavators to go through the rubble,” he said. “Any lead that is given to us, we will pursue, and the search is not over.”

The wildfire was driven by high winds from a hurricane passing far to the south and spread quickly through dry, invasive grasses.

Many videos from body cameras showed police going to great lengths to try to help. One officer sprinted from house to house, alerting people to the approaching inferno. Forty-two victims were found inside structures, 15 were found in cars, 39 were outdoors, and one person was found in the ocean, according to the report.&nbsp;

More than 50 victims were identified by collecting DNA from biological relatives, Sgt. Chase Bell told the news conference, but one person who was reported missing had no biological relative to provide a DNA sample.&nbsp;

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.&nbsp;
