In a joint effort of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police to curb the spread of the drug menace in Mizoram, an anti-narcotics operation was conducted on November 27. Based on specific intelligence about the movement of drugs on Champhai-Saitual Road, an operation was launched in the general area of Saitual. The team of Assam Rifles established a vehicle check post, which intercepted the suspected vehicle carrying drugs. During the search operation, 5.421 Kgs of Methamphetamine Tablets worth ₹16.26 Crores were recovered from Thangtinsei, son of Zamhau and a resident of Moreh, Manipur. Recovered contraband along with the apprehended individual were handed over to the Saitual Police for detailed investigation and further legal proceedings. Earlier on November 26, the Assam Rifles seized methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs 13.33 crore during an operation near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram's Champhai district. According to the Assam Rifles, the operation was launched on November 25 following specific intelligence inputs about possible narcotics movement along World Bank Road in the Zokhawthar area, a key transit point for cross-border trafficking. A team from the force conducted surveillance in the area and detected suspicious activity, prompting immediate action. During the subsequent search, security personnel recovered 4.444 kg of methamphetamine tablets. The substance, classified as a psychotropic drug under Indian law, is among the most trafficked narcotics in the region due to its high demand in international markets. One individual, identified as Bawi Kanthanga, a male national of Myanmar, was apprehended at the site. Initial assessment indicates that the consignment was likely part of a larger trafficking network operating across the porous border. The relevant authorities will conduct further investigations and interrogations. Assam Rifles stated that the seized narcotics were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for detailed examination and initiation of legal proceedings as per existing regulations. Zokhawthar, located along the India-Myanmar border, has witnessed several narcotics-related incidents in recent years. Security forces routinely conduct joint and independent operations to curb the trafficking of methamphetamine tablets, heroin, and other contraband that often originate from drug-producing hubs in the region.

International Film Festival of India 2025: Taiwan's Oscar entry Left-Handed Girl receives warm response at IFFI

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rohini Acharya on Tuesday slammed the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government for changing RJD MLC Rabri Devi's official residence from 10 Circular Road to 39 Harding Road after a gap of two decades. In an 'X' post, Acharya said that insulting RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav is the top priority of the Bihar government. She mentioned that CM Nitish Kumar can take out Lalu Yadav from his official residence, but not from the hearts of Bihar's people. "Sushasan Babu's development model. Insulting Lalu Prasad Yadav, the messiah of millions, is the top priority. They may throw him out of the house, but how will you throw him out of the hearts of Bihar's people? If not his health, at least respect Lalu Ji's political stature," Rohini Acharya wrote on 'X'. The Bihar Building Construction Department on Tuesday allotted House No. 39 on Harding Road in Patna to former Bihar CM Rabri Devi for her use as Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council. Until now, Rabri Devi had been living in her residence at 10 Circular Road, Patna, for the past two decades. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Shakti Singh Yadav on Tuesday expressed surprise over the Bihar government's decision, stating that the people holding the reins of the government are nominal. In contrast, those holding portfolios are considered experienced. "Rabri Devi is the former Chief Minister of Bihar and is also the current Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council...It is a matter of surprise under which rule they have changed the residence...It seems the Bharatiya Janata Party's influence has increased, and those holding the reins of power are nominal while those holding portfolios are considered experienced. Still, this kind of decision is surprising," he said. Rabri Devi served as the Chief Minister of Bihar from 1997 to 2005, making her the first woman to hold the post. Devi became Chief Minister following the resignation of her husband and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1997, when he was forced to step down as CM after an arrest warrant was issued against him in a fodder scam case. Rabri Devi has been the leader of the opposition in the Bihar legislative council since 2018.

West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya on Monday slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led government, saying the people of the state will put an end to what he called the "Maha Jungle Raj." He highlighted concerns over law and order, border security, and human trafficking, asserting that no force can help the Trinamool Congress retain power for a third term. Speaking to the reporters, Samik Bhattacharya said, "Rahul Gandhi worked very hard in the Bihar elections. He even took a dip (in the pond). But everyone knows the result. SIR is happening in 12 states, but the most uproar is happening in West Bengal. What is the reason? Our state of Bengal has a border of more than 2,200 kilometres with Bangladesh..." "In such a state, with such a long and open border, if there is no joint operation of the Central forces, BSF and police, if there is no political consensus, and if there is no awareness among the people, then human trafficking cannot be stopped... Demographic changes are visible... No force can bring Mamata Banerjee to power for the third time. The people of West Bengal will end the 'Maha Jungle Raj' government," he said. Currently, a nationwide SIR is being carried out in 12 states and union territories, with the final elector's list to be published on February 7, 2026. These states and UTs are: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. According to the Election Commission, printing and training took place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November 4 to December 4. The draft electoral rolls will be published on December 9, followed by a claims and objections period from December 9 to January 8, 2026. The Notice Phase (for hearing and verification) will take place between December 9 and January 31, 2026, with publication of Final Electoral Rolls on February 7, 2026. The opposition has strongly opposed the SIR process, alleging that it is aimed at striking the names of voters from underprivileged communities off the voter lists.

Currently, a nationwide SIR is being carried out in 12 states and union territories, with the final elector list to be published on February 7, 2026.

Users also commented on how the Prime Minister's updates offered a clear window into the proceedings. One post read, "I enjoy the highlights of PM Modi, excellent PR of G20," while another noted, "Getting G20 snippets from this page, sana they mean business with the updates." Several people welcomed India's role at the summit, including one saying, "The biggest democracy in the world will be attending the G20 representing the interests of more than 1.4 billion people. South Africa welcomes India and welcomes your constructive engagement with the rest of the world." The appreciation continued with remarks such as "Mr Modi is the MVP of this summit," and "Modi wins the social influencer award for this gathering, by miles." South Africans shower praise on PM Modi as G20 visit sparks wave of goodwill, global momentum

Ahead of taking charge of the highest judicial office in the country, the Chief Justice of India (CJI) designate, Justice Surya Kant, on Saturday said that his primary focus would be on reducing the massive pendency of cases across courts in the country. Justice Kant was addressing a group of legal journalists at his official residence in Delhi, ahead of taking charge as the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Monday. Justice Kant also described mediation, an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, as "a game changer" capable of providing faster, off-court settlements to litigants. Justice Kant said that arrears (pending cases) must be addressed both at the individual court level and on a Pan-India basis. He noted that he has already taken up this issue. One of the major challenges, he explained, is the overlapping of matters. Several important cases have been referred to 5-, 7- or 9-judge Constitutional Benches and owing to this, the High Courts and even the Supreme Court are unable to take up many other cases. Thousands of matters are kept in abeyance as they await decisions from these larger benches, the judge added. As a result, High Courts and District Courts are also stuck due to multiple legal questions that remain unresolved, he stated. He said that once these complexities are sorted out, the next steps can follow. He added that he would need about a week to study the situation closely and that the exercise itself would take some time. One of the criteria, he noted, is to take up the oldest cases first. However, he also acknowledged that there are new matters that require immediate and genuine attention. Speaking on mediation, Justice Kant said that at all levels, the Supreme Court, High Courts and District Courts, referring suitable cases to mediation is often the easiest and most effective solution. He pointed out that mediation has gained strong momentum in the country. Private corporations, banks and insurance companies have even approached the Supreme Court requesting training for their in-house legal officers because, as they conveyed that they don't want to go to courts. If pending and pre-litigation cases are resolved through mediation, he said, the overall burden on the courts would be significantly reduced, Justice Kant explained. He also referred to the Community Mediation Compendium launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a positive signal that the country's environment is shifting in favour of mediation. He added that Section 138 (of the Negotiable Instruments Act) matters, in particular, are ideally suited for referral to mediation. Justice Kant noted that Digital Courts and the use of AI could also be included in the workings of the judicial system. He acknowledged the fear and apprehension surrounding AI but said that it is a technology capable of bringing meaningful change. Certain procedural aspects, he explained, can be streamlined by AI, but there comes a point at which every litigant expects a human court to deliver a final judgment. AI in litigation, therefore, has a limited but useful role, Justice Kant said. He concluded by stressing the need for optimal use of judicial time. Pendency will always exist, he said, but when a matter is urgent, the system must still make space to address it despite the backlog. Disclaimer: This story has been published from a news agency feed with minimal edits for grammar and punctuation. The on-court sessions were the heartbeat of the day. Juniors had the rare chance to rally with Saina and Peter, and the legends slowed down rallies, shared tips, corrected grips, and, at times, simply let the kids soak in the experience. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yaser Jilani on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir over his remarks about laying the foundation stone for Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district, alleging that the leaders of the ruling party in West Bengal are champions of "polarisation politics". Speaking with ANI, Jilani claimed there's a stampede within the TMC and said Mamata Banerjee's government will lose next year's assembly polls. "Babar's admirers will always talk about Babri. They don't know that both Babar and Babri are history... Such history cannot be repeated... There's a stampede within the TMC. They know that Mamata Banerjee's government is falling in West Bengal this time," he alleged "Their leaders, MLAs, and their top spokespersons are champions of polarization politics. They're trying to engage in appeasement politics. Can this happen in India that anyone bring up a new Babri? This is nothing but appeasement politics, which will not benefit them in any way," he added. His remarks come a day after the TMC MLA called for laying the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid on December 6 in the district's Beldanga region, marking 33 years since the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya. "We will lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid on December 6 in Beldanga, Murshidabad district. It will take three years to complete. Various Muslim leaders will participate in that event," Kabir said on Friday. Responding separately, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said the issue of mosque construction was a religious matter and should not be politicised. "Whoever, wherever they want to build the mosque, they know. The mosque wasn't named Babri Masjid; it was a common name, and it no longer exists. Whether someone chooses to build a mosque or not is a matter of religion," he said. Humayun Kabir had talked about building a Babri Masjid-like mosque in the state back in 2024.
