Brazilian police arrested three people on Sunday, including a federal lawmaker, in connection with the 2018 murder of Rio de Janeiro city council member Marielle Franco and her driver, two sources at the federal police told Reuters.

Federal police arrested Congressman Chiquinho Brazao, his brother Domingos Brazao, a councillor on the Rio de Janeiro state audit court (TCE), and former Rio police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, the two sources said on condition of anonymity.

The police said in a statement that it was serving three arrest warrants and 12 search and seizure warrants in connection with the murder, but mentioned no names.

Police officers arrived at TCE headquarters early on Sunday to carry out a search and seizure warrant at the office of Domingos Brazao, the audit court said in a statement. In a statement to journalists outside the headquarters of the federal police in Rio, Brazao's lawyer said his client is innocent.

In March 2019, two former police officers, Ronnie Lessa and Elcio de Queiroz, were indicted on charges of shooting Franco and her driver, and last year police arrested another suspect linked to the case.

Queiroz, accused of driving the car used in the crime, and Lessa, suspected of firing the gun, made plea bargain agreements with authorities, with Lessa providing information on who gave the order to kill Franco.

Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski said Lessa gave investigators important new information last week that would allow them to solve the case "soon."

Franco, 38, was a black, openly gay and progressive council member born in a poor Rio de Janeiro neighbourhood. Investigators believe her killing to be a political assassination carried out by paid hit men.

A rising star in the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), Franco was an outspoken critic of police killings of Rio slum residents and her death sparked nationwide protests by Brazilians fed up with endemic violence.

"The conscription law being drawn up by the government is a serious moral failure that will create a deep rift within us at a time when we need to fight together against our enemies," said Gantz.

Gantz, a former military chief who holds significant support, joined the unity government to help oversee the conflict with Hamas following its October 7 attack. As per recent opinion polls, he has more support than Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

While Gantz's party alone may not have the power to bring down Netanyahu's government, Israel's defence minister&nbsp;Yoav Gallant has also expressed opposition to the bill, indicating dissent within Netanyahu's own right-wing Likud party.

Gallant, who is currently on an official visit to the United States, stated that he would not support the bill which is scheduled to be presented to the cabinet on Tuesday.

Although the proposed legislation has not been publicly disclosed, as per a Reuters report, leaks to Israeli media suggest it revises disputed military exemptions for ultra-Orthodox Jews of the&nbsp;Haredi community and may even expand them.

Additionally, it downplays the economic consequences of the longstanding policy, which top Israeli economists have repeatedly warned carries a heavy price.

Once approved by the cabinet, the bill would proceed to parliament for further review, a process that is expected to take several weeks or even months, according to officials.

As per Israel Times citing the IDF's Personnel Directorate,&nbsp;a record 66,000 young men from the Haredi community received exemptions from military service over the past year. This figure is the highest ever recorded.

The law that previously authorised these exemptions expired in June 2023. A temporary regulation that extended the exemptions is set to expire next week. After this point, the military will no longer be legally permitted to exempt Haredi young men from the draft and will be required to start enlisting them.

The Philippines on Monday (Mar 25) summoned the Charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in the country and registered strong&nbsp;protest over ‘aggressive actions’ by the Chinese coastguard in the South China Sea.

The supply boat was significantly damaged in the incident, while the crew also sustained injuries.

China said the action it took against the supply boat was “necessary”. China's defence ministry on Sunday told the Philippines to cease "provocative actions" and comments that may lead to conflict and escalation.

On Friday, just before Soviet-era rock group Picnic was to perform its hit "Afraid of Nothing" four armed men burst into Crocus City Hall, a 6,200-seat concert hall outside Moscow. Unleashing a barrage of gunfire with their automatic weapons in short bursts, the attackers killed 137 people, including three children, while another 182 were injured. &nbsp;

This attack was the deadliest attack inside Russia for two decades. Previously, in 2004, a siege at Beslan school had claimed 300 lives — more than half of them children.

Following the circulation of unverified and brutal videos of the suspects' interrogations on social media, courtroom images published by Russian media have revealed disturbing physical conditions of the suspects.&nbsp;

One of the suspects was seen being brought in on a wheelchair, appearing to be missing an eye. Another had a bandage where his right ear should be, while a third had a black eye and a ripped plastic bag around his neck. The fourth suspect, with a swollen face, seemed disoriented and struggled to keep his eyes open.

As per Russian President Vladimir Putin, 11 people, including the four suspected gunmen, have been detained. The attackers, he said, made their way to the Bryansk region, about 340 km (210 miles) southwest of Moscow.

"They tried to hide and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them on the Ukrainian side to cross the state border," he said.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has denied any role in the attack, for which&nbsp;Islamic State has claimed responsibility.

The police commander of the province, Christopher Tamari, said while talking to news agency AFP that at least five people lost their lives in the powerful earthquake.

Tamari added that the number of causalities was more likely to rise as authorities searched through debris and the remote jungle-clad region.

Governor Bird said that there was an urgent need to boost supplies of medical items, clean drinking water and temporary shelters in the disaster zone.

As reported by Fox Business, the incident took place at an Outback Steakhouse in Livonia, Michigan, earlier this month. The boy, named Mekyle Cureton, was dining with his family when he requested his usual non-alcoholic daiquiri. However, upon consuming a few sips, he remarked that the drink "didn't taste right" and experienced a rapid heartbeat.

In an attempt to ascertain whether the drink contained alcohol, the boy's grandmother tasted it but was unable to discern any alcohol content. Since no one in the family consumes alcohol, they alerted their server, and the bartender confirmed the error. Additionally, the family noticed that their meal receipt indicated an order for a regular daiquiri rather than the requested "virgin" version.

After the occurrence, the restaurant issued an apology and waived the charges for the family's meal. Meanwhile, the boy was admitted to the hospital as a result of the incident. According to the report, he received a diagnosis of accidental alcohol exposure and ingestion. He was administered Tylenol and advised to rest, as per the outlet. The following day, he experienced his first ever hangover.

"We take this situation very seriously and are thankful that the child involved was not seriously harmed," the restaurant told the outlet.&nbsp;

After consuming several large sips of the drink, the 12-year-old began to feel its effects. "My head started hurting when I was leaving, and my heart started beating as I was drinking it," he told the outlet. In an attempt to ascertain whether the drink contained alcohol, the boy's grandmother tasted it but was unable to discern any alcohol content. Since no one in the family consumes alcohol, they alerted their server, and the bartender confirmed the error. Additionally, the family noticed that their meal receipt indicated an order for a regular daiquiri rather than the requested "virgin" version. After the occurrence, the restaurant issued an apology and waived the charges for the family's meal. Meanwhile, the boy was admitted to the hospital as a result of the incident. According to the report, he received a diagnosis of accidental alcohol exposure and ingestion. He was administered Tylenol and advised to rest, as per the outlet. The following day, he experienced his first ever hangover. "We take this situation very seriously and are thankful that the child involved was not seriously harmed," the restaurant told the outlet.
