According to The Arizona Daily Star, on March 29, Arizona governor Katie Hobbs signed a bill designating the "dwarf planet" Pluto as the "official state planet" of Arizona. When asked about Pluto's classification as a full-fledged planet, Governor Hobbs evaded the question, expressing pride in Arizona's contributions to space exploration instead.

It's worth noting that American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1930. Notably, Pluto is the only planet to have been discovered in the United States.

“The whole story of Clyde is just amazing, just sitting there under the telescope’’ looking for planets by taking photos over a period of time," said Arizona state Republican Justin Wilmeth (R-Phoenix), who praised the Pluto legislation.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza on Monday (April 1) said that after tanks and vehicles were withdrawn by the Israeli military from the Al-Shifa complex, dozens of bodies were discovered in the besieged territory's main hospital.

The operation on Al-Shifa hospital was launched by the Israeli Army on March 18 which was described as a "precise" one that targets Hamas militants, whom they accused of operating from the complex.

"Dozens of bodies, some of them decomposed, have been recovered from in and around the Al-Shifa medical complex," said the health ministry, in a statement.&nbsp; 
 
The Israeli military "withdrew from the Al-Shifa medical complex after burning down the complex buildings and putting it completely out of service", it added.

"The scale of the destruction inside the complex and the buildings around it is very large," it said.

WHO chief appealed to all the parties involved in the conflict to comply with the resolution of the UN Security Council which calls for a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, a fresh stock of bombs is being sent to Israel by the United States, confirmed two senior administration officials to NBC News.

The bombs, which are part of a weapons package that was approved long back, contain more than 1,800 Mark 84 (MK84) 2,000-pound bombs and approximately 500 Mark 82 (MK82) 500-pound bombs.

In the past 24 hours, 77 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza, said the health authorities on Sunday (Mar 31). The strikes were carried out at a time when an Israeli delegation was being hosted by Egypt to carry out a new round of truce talks with Hamas.&nbsp;

Israel's military claimed that they had "eliminated" a Hezbollah missile unit commander on Sunday (Mar 31) in an airstrike in Lebanon.

The Israeli Air Force "struck a vehicle in the area of Kunin in Lebanon in which Ismail al-Zin was located," said the military. 
 
"Al-Zin was a significant commander in the Anti-Tank Missile Unit of Hezbollah's Radwan Forces," it added.

The death of Al-Zin was confirmed by Hezbollah in a statement in which it was not clarified if he was part of Radwan, which is an elite unit.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant later said that the military will continue its operations against Hezbollah.

"We will make them pay a price for every attack that comes out from Lebanon," Gallant said.

Meanwhile, a bomb exploded in a shopping area in a northern Syrian city held by pro-Turkish forces on Sunday, killing eight people and wounding about two dozen people.&nbsp;

This comes as clean-up efforts continue following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Unified Command, a coalition of federal and state agencies overseeing the response to the bridge collapse, in a statement said that the Captain of the Port (COTP) was "preparing to establish a temporary alternate channel on the northeast side of the main channel in the vicinity of the Francis Scott Key Bridge for commercially essential vessels."

"This will mark an important first step along the road to reopening the port of Baltimore," said Captain David O'Connell, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, Key Bridge Response 2024.&nbsp;

"By opening this alternate route, we will support the flow of marine traffic into Baltimore," he said.

The temporary route will be marked with navigational aids and have "a controlling depth of 11 feet (3.35 metres), a 264 foot (80.4&nbsp;metres)&nbsp;horizontal clearance, and vertical clearance 96 feet (29.26 metres)," added the statement.

However, the statement did not specify which vessels will be permitted to use the alternate channel or provide a timeline for its opening.

Aside from the upcoming temporary channel, an existing safety zone around the collapsed site remains in effect. This, as per the statement, is "intended to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment."

Vessels and people are required to obtain permission from the COTP or a designated representative to enter the safety zone.

As per media reports, a "remarkably complex operation" to clear the debris has begun at the incident site.

The Port of Baltimore is a vital hub for trade to the US economy. In 2023, $80.8 billion worth of foreign cargo moved through it.

As per Reuters citing officials, there is no evidence of foul play. The massive cargo ship was crippled by power loss when it crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the mouth of the Patapsco River at about 1:30 am (0530 GMT).

Dali, the Singapore-flagged container vessel, was heading out of the harbour bound for Sri Lanka.

A timely Mayday call from the crew&nbsp;of the ship led officials to&nbsp;stop traffic on the bridge before the collapse. However,&nbsp;six workers&nbsp;were present&nbsp;on the bridge when the incident happened and were reported missing.&nbsp;Bodies of two of them have&nbsp;been recovered while the rest are presumed dead.

"By being able to stop cars from coming over the bridge, these people are heroes. They saved lives last night," said Maryland Governor Wes Moore at a news briefing.

Moore assured people that the bridge was up to code and there were no known structural issues.
