Former&nbsp;United States&nbsp;president Donald Trump secured a $175 million bond in his New York civil fraud case on Monday (April 1) and averted the seizure of assets by the state authorities which may have placed his business empire in shambles.

Republican candidate Trump will be facing Democratic President Joe Biden in the general elections to be held in the United States in November.&nbsp;

On February 16, he was found liable for fraudulently inflating his net worth to secure better insurance and loan terms. &nbsp;

The $175 million bond was backed by the Knight Specialty Insurance Company, wrote an attorney for the Los Angeles-based firm in a court filing on Monday (April 1).

“As promised, President Trump has posted bond,” said Alina Habba, the former commander of chief’s lawyer, Alina Habba, in a statement. “He looks forward to vindicating his rights on appeal and overturning this unjust verdict," he added.

<h2>Court drastically reduced&nbsp;Trump's bond of $454 million</h2>

Trump was able to successfully lobby an appeals court to decrease the bond, after which the court drastically reduced the huge figures and gave the former president 10 days from the day of the court's decision (March 25) to post the lessened bond.

Earlier, Trump was required to post a bond for $454 million. However, the appeals court stayed the enforcement of the judgment delivered by Trump on the condition that the smaller sum would be paid by him in 10 days.

Trump's appeal will be heard by a three-judge panel in the appeals court on the merits. The reduction of the bond does not indicate how the panel will deliver the final ruling.

The bond has stopped New York Attorney General Letitia James from seizing Trump's properties, which include Trump Tower, his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and his 370-acre resort and golf course in Westchester.

Trump denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the case was a political witch hunt against him by James, who is a Democrat and had sued him in 2022.

Justice Engoron, in a 92-page order, described how Trump asked the deputies to alter the values of his properties and reach a desired net worth a decade before he entered politics.

The case has been part of various legal troubles being faced by Trump, &nbsp;which includes a criminal trial in New York which is set to happen on April 15.&nbsp;

The judge, who was overseeing the criminal hush money trial of Donald Trump, imposed a gag order to include family members of the Manhattan district attorney and family members of the court, as per the latest ruling.

The ruling came after Trump made comments against the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan. The judge warned that the rhetoric of Trump threatens to instil fear in those who are&nbsp;part of the proceedings but might pull out&nbsp;for their loved ones.

“The average observer, must now, after hearing defendant’s recent attacks, draw the conclusion that if they become involved in these proceedings, even tangentially, they should worry not only for themselves, but for their loved ones as well,” wrote Merchan.&nbsp;

“Such concerns will undoubtedly interfere with the fair administration of justice and constitute a direct attack on the Rule of Law itself," he added.

“It is no longer just a mere possibility or a reasonable likelihood that there exists a threat to the integrity of the judicial proceedings. The threat is very real. Admonitions are not enough, nor is reliance on self-restraint,” he said.

Trump has been facing accusations of illegally covering up hush money payments made to a porn star before the 2016 election. In two cases, he has also been charged with making efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to Biden and handling of classified documents after leaving office.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A lower death toll was given by Iran's ambassador to Syria Hossein Akbari, who said to the Iranian state TV that "at least five people were killed in the attack which was carried out by F-35 fighter jets" which launched six missiles at the consulate.

Hezbollah, in its statement, said Zahedi was "one of the first to support, sacrifice, and persevere for many years to develop and advance the work of the resistance (Hezbollah) in Lebanon".

According to local media reports, two packages were found at Freshwater Beach. Additionally, another three bricks were found on nearby Curl Curl Beach wrapped in plastic and tightly tied with tape.

Since the first discovery in December, packages containing more than 250 kilogrammes of cocaine have been found along the coast of the Australian state.&nbsp;

On December 22, 2023, a package of illicit drugs was found in the Central Coast region, around 90 kg,&nbsp;north of Sydney&nbsp;three days before Christmas.&nbsp;

Similar packages have also been discovered in Western Australia and Victoria after being washed ashore. Meanwhile, several beaches in NSW have reported such packages since December.&nbsp;

Two larger containers that had up to 39 kg&nbsp;of cocaine were found at northern beaches and at Ocean Baths a day after Christmas, on Boxing Day.&nbsp;

Around New Year’s another 39 kg&nbsp;worth of cocaine was found in North Bondi after a lifeguard had spotted the floating consignment.&nbsp;

Some of the bricks found were said to be covered in barnacles, and following their analysis, detectives indicated that the packages were in the water no more than six weeks before being discovered.

The incident reportedly took place around the afternoon when the building was undergoing renovations and five people will be detained for questioning. As per reports,&nbsp;five people, including the managers of the nightclub, were detained for questioning.&nbsp;

<h2>What happened?</h2>

The death toll rose from 15 which was reported earlier by the city mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, following a series of statements issued by the Istanbul governor’s office.&nbsp;

The fire reportedly broke out during daytime renovation and repair work at the 16-storey building in Istanbul’s Besiktas.&nbsp;

Out of the 13 injured, seven were reportedly seriously wounded during the fire at a Masquerade nightclub which occupies two floors underneath a 16-storey residential building in the city’s Gayrettepe district.&nbsp;

Images from the site show flames and a column of thick smoke emitting from the upper floors of the building. The officials said that the fire has since been extinguished and those injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.&nbsp;

<h2>Response to the fire</h2>

Firefighters responded with 31 vehicles and 86 personnel after the blaze was reported, said the governor’s office.&nbsp;

Governor of Istanbul Davut Gul told reporters at the scene that the cause of the fire was under investigation and the victims are believed to be involved in the renovation work.

"Kaylee's ability to walk has slightly improved but she is still unable to do so without the assistance of hospital staff," Kaemmerer&nbsp;told the&nbsp;Post.

Japan on Tuesday said it will lift its suspension of funding to the UN&nbsp;Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) as the relief body works to regain trust after an allegation by Israel that some of its staff were involved in Oct. 7 attacks on Israel.

Tokyo and 15 other countries suspended around $450 million in funding earlier this year while the agency conducted an investigation into the allegation, throwing its operations in the war-torn Gaza Strip into turmoil.

Countries including Australia and Canada have since restored funding to UNRWA, the largest relief body operating in Gaza, which has been besieged by Israel since the attack.

Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, who met UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini in Tokyo last week, said the agency's role in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza was indispensable even as it works to improve governance and manage risks.

"In response to this, Japan will lift the moratorium on its financial contributions to UNRWA and provide assistance while ensuring and confirming the appropriateness of Japan's funds," she told reporters in parliament.

Approximately $35 million of originally planned funding was ready to be disbursed, she added.

Japan is the sixth biggest donor to the agency, according to the UNRWA's 2022 data.
