An emergency had been declared across the Orenburg region after levels in the Ural River rose to dangerous levels due to melting ice. According to the Orenburg mayor, 300 houses had already been flooded.

The regional government told the Russian news agency TASS that residents of the city of Orsk, which is 276 kilometres east of Orenburg, are being evacuated as more than 4,200 homes and almost 11,000 people may be affected by rising flood water.&nbsp;

Residents of the Leninsky and Sovetsky districts of Orsk are being evacuated, said the regional prosecutor’s office.&nbsp;

Around 440 relief workers and 217 pieces of equipment were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the dam burst in Orsk, reported TASS citing the Russian emergencies ministry.&nbsp;

The mountain city of Orsk is home to 230,000 people. According to the state news agency, the evacuation in the old part of the city was underway after a protective dam collapsed near Orenburgskaya Street.&nbsp;

So far, 135 people, including 55 children, have been evacuated to temporary shelters set up, the Russian emergencies ministry told TASS.&nbsp;

The military spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, reportedly said, “It’s a tragedy."

Charity questions credibility of Israeli inquiry findings on killing of aid workers

A shooting incident at a bustling shopping mall in Florida has resulted in the deaths of two people&nbsp;and injuries to seven others.

According to Miami-Dade police, a confrontation erupted at the Martini Bar within the CityPlace Doral premises early Saturday morning (April 6). The altercation led to the fatal shooting of a security guard, who intervened in the altercation, by the gunman. Subsequently, the assailant was also killed in an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement, as reported by Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade detective, cited by the Guardian.

Six bystanders, comprising five men and one woman, sustained injuries during the shootout, along with a police officer who was shot in the leg, as stated by Zabaleta.

“Officers that were working at the commercial establishment at the time immediately responded, and there was an exchange of gunfire,” Zabaleta said during a news conference.

“Unfortunately, the security guard lost his life while he was performing his duties, and of course, our heart goes out to that family,” he added.

The wounded police officer, who applied his own tourniquet according to CBS News, has been discharged from the hospital. Local residents expressed shock at the violent incident.

The identity of the shooter is being investigated by authorities.

Palestinian militant group Hamas on Saturday (Apr 6) released a statement saying that it has refused to "back down" from its demands for a Gaza truce deal.

However, it said that it would send its delegation for renewed talks on a ceasefire in Egypt's Cairo over the weekend.

"Hamas confirms its adherence to the position it presented on March 14 ... and we will not back down from this position," it said in a statement.

The group further reiterated its set of demands.

"This basic fact remains true: There would be a ceasefire in Gaza today had Hamas simply agreed to release this vulnerable category of hostages – the sick, wounded, elderly, and young women," the senior Biden official said.

"The onus is on Hamas to release the hostages and bring relief to the people of Gaza through a prolonged ceasefire," the official said. &nbsp;

Critics may dispute Azerbaijan's status as a major fossil fuel producer hosting a climate meeting. However, Babayev highlighted the country's commitment to switching to renewables. Despite depending primarily on oil and gas exports, Azerbaijan aims to get 30% of its energy from renewables by 2027.

"For Azerbaijan, it is [a] very good opportunity to demonstrate to the world how the oil and gas country in the past can turn to the green growth direction. One of the aspects of our program [is] to invite oil and gas producing countries to see how we will use all the chances to reduce the emission, to find the investment potential for the green growth," he added.&nbsp;

Babayev has more modest expectations for the results of COP29 than COP's previous chapters. Instead of going after historic agreements, he wants countries to honor their previous commitments, such as those made in the Paris Agreement.&nbsp;

"We hope that all the countries, including the United States, will demonstrate their readiness to fulfill their obligations, to fulfill their readiness to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels," he said. COP29 is scheduled to happen one week after the US Presidential election in November. Former president Donald Trump's campaign's energy policy's premise is increasing domestic fossil fuel production which doesn't exactly line up with keeping climate commitments. Trump plans to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act which provides $500 billion in investment for the infrastructure necessary for the transition to a green economy if re-elected. When questioned about persuading an incoming President Trump to uphold emission reduction pledges, Babayev said "I think it is [a] very critical time for the world. We hope that all countries will fulfill their obligations and intentions to provide [for that] 1.5 [Celsius, 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit] limit. That's why I think, and I hope, that all the countries will demonstrate their readiness and—by action—their activities to provide this target."
