It may be mentioned here, the plan involves launching thousands of unmanned systems, from surface vessels and submarines to aerial drones, to fight Chinese invading forces as soon as they begin to cross the Taiwan Strait.

This type of plan would need heavy investments in cheap, reliable drones, which the US has been doing with its Replicator initiative.&nbsp;

Last year, the Department of Defence officially announced the programme, outlining a long-term plan to field thousands of autonomous systems.

Back in March, Deputy Defence Secretary Kathleen Hicks said the Pentagon aims to spend US$1 billion this fiscal year on Replicator.

Previous summer, Hicks stated that Replicator aimed to neutralise China’s significant gains, which lie in its sheer size: "More ships. More missiles. More people."&nbsp;

A military aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others went missing on Monday (June 10), prompting an urgent search operation, reports said citing the president’s office of the African nation.

The plane was scheduled to land around 45 minutes after departure from the capital Lilongwe. However, it failed to reach its destination at Mzuzu International Airport in the stipulated time.&nbsp;

Mzuzu International Airport is located in the city of Mzuzu, in the northern region of Malawi.&nbsp;From the departure point of the Malawian Vice President's aircraft, the airport is nearly 370 kilometres to the north.&nbsp;

As per information from&nbsp;Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera's office,&nbsp;aviation authorities lost contact with the plane as it "went off radar."&nbsp;In response to the incident, President Chakwera has ordered to “conduct an immediate search and rescue operation to locate the whereabouts of the aircraft."&nbsp;

The search operation is being undertaken by both national and local authorities. The president also canceled his planned trip to the Bahamas in view of the situation.

“All efforts to make contact with the aircraft since it went off radar have failed thus far,” the statement from president's office read.

Malawian armed forces chief General Valentino Phiri informed the president about the missing aircraft carrying the vice president.&nbsp;

Finland said it suspected that a Russian military aircraft had violated Finnish airspace in the Gulf of Finland. The suspected intrusion into Finnish airspace was believed to have occurred Monday morning near the city of Loviisa, located less than 90 kilometres east of the capital Helsinki on the coast of the Gulf of Finland, the Nordic country's Ministry of Defence said in a statement. The incident comes as relations between the neighbouring countries, who share a 1,340-kilometre border, have become increasingly tense after Finland joined NATO last year.
