<p>Freshwater systems have been severely damaged due to poor management, it said adding that water contamination is widespread across the world.</p>

<p>As aquifers deplete and food systems lack fresh water, global agriculture is being strained. Subsidised offered by governments to agriculture worth billions of dollars is exacerbating this problem.</p>

<p>The degradation of freshwater ecosystems will worsen climate change, leading to more frequent droughts, floods, heatwaves and wildfires, warned the report.</p>

<p>What could make the situation worse is the fact that more than half of the world's food production and some three billion people are in areas projected to see declining water resources.</p>

<p>A Tennessee factory worker's family has sued the company and its CEO for ordering employees to stay in the factory amid the catastrophic Hurricane Helene while sneaking out themselves which led to the death of the worker.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 55-year-old Johnny Peterson was one of the two workers employed at Impact Plastics who lost their lives in flooding which had engulfed the factory in the of Erwin on September 27.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Among the 11 workers who had been swept away, five of them were rescued and four others went missing, as per the reports.</p>

<h2><strong>Worker's family files explosive lawsuit</strong></h2>

<p>The family of Peterson filed an explosive lawsuit in Tennessee state court on Monday (Oct&nbsp;14) according to which the managers of the facility did not allow employees to leave their work and move out as the hurricane wreaked havoc in the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At 10:30 am (local time), the employees were informed by the company managers to move their cars since the parking lot had started flooding, claimed the lawsuit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At 11: 35am (local time), senior management which included Impact Plastics founder and CEO Gerald O’Connor had “stealthily exited the building,” read the court papers.</p>

<p>The workers had assumed that they were free to go home because local schools and other businesses had been closed down in the wake of Hurricane Helene, said the suit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, Impact Plastics had instead asked its employees to report to work since the company “wanted to meet order deadlines,” stated court documents.</p>

<p>The workers were not freed till water had entered the parking lot of the plant and the power went out.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Generally, flights are long and tedious, however, there is one unique Scottish flight whose journey lasts for just one and a half minutes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The shortest flight is operated by Loganair and flies between the Orkney islands of Westray and Papa Westray in&nbsp;Scotland.</p>

<p>At times, the flying duration between Westray and Papa Westray is less than a minute which makes it the shortest flight. On this route, the fastest recorded flight was around 53 seconds and this was achieved by pilot Stuart Linklater.</p>

<p>Originally, flights on the route started in 1967 and quickly broke the record of the shortest scheduled flights in the world. The journey of the flight takes place on an everyday basis in both directions and the only day the flights do not fly is on Saturdays.</p>

<p>“I don’t want anyone viewing me like that. Just the fact that my image is out there, could be saying anything...People will think I am involved in the coup,” added Torres.</p>

<p>“Knowing that this company I trusted my image with will get away with such a thing makes me so angry. This could potentially cost lives, cost me my life when crossing a border for immigration.”</p>

<p>Genaro Garcia Luna, a former top security official who was given the responsibility to dismantle the drug cartels in Mexico, was sentenced to more than 38 years in a US prison on Wednesday for instead enabling them. The sentence was announced by the US district judge Brian Cogan at a hearing in Brooklyn federal court.</p>

<p>Garcia Luna was Mexico’s public security minister from 2006 to 2012.</p>

<p>The 56-year-old was convicted in New York last year for taking millions of dollars in bribes to let the Sinaloa Cartel smuggle cocaine. He was found guilty of five criminal counts in February 2023, including engaging in a criminal drug enterprise, taking part in various conspiracies and making false statements.</p>

<p>The Sinaloa cartel was once led by Joaquin Guzman Loera, better known as El Chapo. Prosecutors, representing the US Justice Department, accused him of using his office to protect Mexico’s notorious Sinaloa cartel. Garcia took money from the cartel in exchange for shielding its members from arrest and protecting its cocaine shipments.</p>

<p>“Today’s sentencing of Genaro Garcia Luna is a critical step in upholding justice and the rule of law,” United States Attorney Breon Peace said in a press release.</p>

<p>Judge Cogan credited him for teaching fellow inmates at Brooklyn’s metropolitan detention centre, but stated he lived a "double life" and the harm he caused outweighed his good deeds.</p>
