A pair of African lions were euthanised at an Australian zoo after the male lion underwent a medical episode. The female was, however, healthy but the zoo officials decided to put her down as well. The matter has sparked backlash on the internet.

Amani and her male partner Mujambi were euthanised at the Adelaide Zoo on Thursday. “Both big cats are now at rest,” the zoo said.

Mujambi was 19 years old and suffered a medical condition over the weekend. His condition kept deteriorating despite the team of veterinary doctors providing the required treatment. The zoo officials then decided to euthanise the lion to prevent further suffering.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Amani was also put to rest soon after. She was the oldest lioness in the country. The zoo said in a Facebook post that the "negative welfare and aspects of her life without Mujambi were determined to outweigh any positives of remaining alone", which is why she was also put down.

It added that while deciding what's best for the animals, they need "to consider species-specific behaviour." While&nbsp;tigers can live in isolation,&nbsp;African lions can't. Dr Phil Ainsley, Director of Adelaide Zoo, said,&nbsp;"Normally you’ll either get a pride or, as they get older, a couple living together."

"In the case of lions, they are a social species, and the likelihood of safely moving or integrating Amani into another pride or environment was considered too risky and stress-provoking,” Ainsley said.

<h2>Amani and Mujambi shared a lovely bond</h2>

Amani and Mujambi had been together for 16 years. Mujambi was a "handsome lion with a beautiful mane despite his old age", the zoo said.

The two shared a special bond. "She swiped at him, growled and bossed him around, but she also wanted to be no further away from him than his shadow,” said zoo curator Deb Barry.

Amani and Mujambi lived beyond the average life expectancy of 15 years in the wild for African lions, the zoo said. “Under human care in a zoo or safari park setting, lions can live into their 20s. At 23 and 19 both lions were in the latter stages of their lives,” it said.

Amani recently turned 23 in May and her keepers had a birthday party for her, "with members and volunteers turning up to watch her demolish enrichment items created by Adelaide Zoo’s BEEZA team."

Indian foreign affairs ministry in a late-night statement on Wednesday (Oct 16) blasted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he acknowledged that he had only "intelligence-based speculation" and no "hard evidentiary proof" against India over the death of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The report comes amid initial refusal from Starmer's office to confirm if he had met Swift.

Starmer was under pressure to share details of his brush-by with Swift after The Sun and others reported it, after he was invited to the concert at Wembley stadium on August 16 along with family by Universal Music.

As required by parliament rules, Starmer declared that he got the tickets worth&nbsp;£2,800 for the concert. He later coughed up the money for it, after massive criticism that he had been accepting such freebies worth thousands of pounds.

According to reports, Met Police was not interested in giving such treatment, but the decision was taken anyway after London Mayor Sadiq Khan and home secretary Yvette Cooper made representations about the negative economic fallout if Swift cancelled the London tour. Sue Gray, the now-former chief of staff of Starmer, was involved in the preparations, and&nbsp;Swift's mother Andrea personally coordinated the security details provided to her, claimed the reports.

Verhovsky contacted an entity in August&nbsp;that was operating on behalf of Iranian intelligence services, and portrayed himself as an Israeli citizen living in Canada, according to the indictment. The man called himself "Eli".&nbsp;

Verhovsky has been accused of carrying&nbsp;out a series of tasks ordered by "Eli", despite knowing he was hostile to the State of Israel, in exchange for transfers of between $30 and $200 to a cryptocurrency wallet.&nbsp;

Now, a second Liberal Party MP has gone public with a call for PM Trudeau to tender his resignation and make way for new leadership.

Sean Casey, the Member of Parliament for Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, has stressed he backs an overwhelming call by his constituents for Trudeau to go.

“My job has always been to project the voice of the people I represent in Ottawa, to be Charlottetown’s representative in Ottawa, and not the reverse. And the message that I’ve been getting loud and clear and more and more strongly as time goes by is that it’s time for him to go. And I agree,” the MP said at CBC’s Power and Politics show.

This came after New Brunswick MP Wayne Long had publicly asked Trudeau to hang up his boots. A group of Liberal lawmakers is concerned over the dismal by-polls results and the lack of party readiness for the next campaign, with Canadians expected to go to the polls at the latest in October 2025.

“I support whoever is leader in my party at all times,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a robust caucus discussion about who the best person to lead us in the next election is, and that discussion should happen in caucus. It shouldn’t happen in the media.”

Earlier this week, CBC News reported that more than a dozen Liberal Party MPs have signed a document, calling for a ‘change’. The report said that “at least” 20 MPs have signed the letter, without identifying the ruling party lawmakers.
