Concerns have been raised as strict measures were adopted to counter the spread of coronavirus during the occasion.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Steven Ho Chun-yin, a 42-year-old member of Hong Kong's largest pro-Beijing party tested positive for Covid. He was one of about 100 officials granted close contact with Xi for a photo call on Thursday afternoon. He sits in the city's rubber-stamp legislature, the report by AFP added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A report by the South China Morning Post revealed that Chun-yin represents the agriculture and fisheries functional constituency. The report further mentioned that he is self-isolating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The photo session took place on June 30, the first day of Jinping's two-day visit to the city. He apparently stood behind the president in the middle of the third row. During the photo session, everyone was wearing a face mask.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reports mentioned that the lawmaker tested negative on the first day of Xi's visit on Thursday and returned an uncertain test on Friday. He did not take part in any events on Friday after the uncertain test result, he said in a message on social media.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday said that Hong Kong can’t afford to be destabilised while defending the “one country, two systems” form of governance in a rare visit to the Chinese territory amid a deepening authoritarian crackdown by Beijing.</p>

<p>The Chinese leader asserted that Hong Kong's “true democracy” started after the city's handover to China from colonial Britain 25 years ago.</p>

<p>"After reuniting with the motherland, Hong Kong's people became the masters of their own city," Xi said. "Hong Kong's true democracy started from here."</p>

<p>Xi is in Hong Kong for the swearing-in ceremony of his handpicked leader John Lee— a former security chief who oversaw the police response to the anti-government demonstrations in 2019.</p>

<p>This is his first known trip outside the mainland in more than two years amid the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Stressing that Hong Kong must be run by “patriots,” Xi said that it must also maintain its unique status and strengths, including as an international financial, shipping and aviation hub.</p>

<p>"After all the storms, everyone has painfully learned that Hong Kong can't fall into chaos and Hong Kong can't afford chaos," Xi said.</p>

Hong Kong police to drop British-era foot drills on handover anniversary

<p>While hosting the BRICS summit on Thursday (June 23), Chinese President Xi Jinping in his opening address called on the five-member grouping (China, Russia, India, Brazil and South Africa) to oppose&nbsp;"the abuse" of sanctions, in an apparent jibe at the United States.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jinping said, "We need to encourage the international community to practice true multilateralism and uphold the international system with the UN at its core and the international order underpinned by international law".&nbsp;</p>

<p>He urged to "reject the Cold War mentality and bloc confrontation, oppose unilateral sanctions and abuse of sanctions, and reject the small circles built around hegemonism by forming one big family belonging to a community with a shared future for humanity."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The same thought was reiterated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who scolded the West for fomenting the global crisis.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russia has been slapped with multiple economic sanctions after Russia announced the decision to invade Ukraine this year on February 24.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Chinese President said to reject "small circles", it appeared to be a veiled reference to the Quad, a grouping of the US, Japan and Australia and India. Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, or Quad, is aimed at countering China militarily and diplomatically in the "Indo-Pacific" region, particularly in the South China Sea.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apart from the Quad, Beijing has been critical of AUKUS (US, UK, Australia) alliance, alleging that it is aimed at containing China's rise.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Beijing's official Xinhua news agency reported that in the latest move to fight corruption, China's ruling Communist Party has issued rules to further rein in the business activities of the families of senior government officials.</p>

<p>Citing the provisions issued by the Communist Party's Central Committee, Xinhua said officials must report the business activities of their spouses and children and those who fail to do will be "dealt with seriously in accordance with regulations and laws."</p>

<p>According to the report, officials' spouses and children must withdraw from their business activities or the officials themselves will have to step down from their current posts and "accept job adjustments" and face other forms of punishment.</p>

<p>According to a video from a White House pool report, the 79-year-old president was wearing a short-sleeve shirt, shorts, and a helmet as he was finishing up his ride with First Lady Jill Biden.</p>

<p>When he approached the mixed group of supporters and media gathered at Cape Henlopen State Park, he fell on his side and was immediately surrounded by Secret Service who helped him to his feet.</p>

<p>"Have to take off these things. My foot got caught," Biden said when asked what caused him to topple off his bike.</p>
