 The British Royal Navy and Army exploded a 250kg bomb in Plymouth on Friday (May 1) left behind from the second world war with Germany.

The local council said they evacuated more than 1,200 homes and set up a 400 metre cordonaround  the unexploded ordnance before carrying out the controlled explosion. 

Three local schools were also closed.
