Hygienic food and beverages: Consume food and beverages only from trusted, hygienic sources to reduce the risk of infection.

Disinfect drinking water: Use appropriate methods to disinfect drinking water based on availability, ensuring it is safe for consumption.

Properly wash raw foods: Wash raw foods thoroughly before consumption to eliminate any potential virus-contaminated particles.

Symptoms may include low-grade fever, body pain, fatigue, and jaundice. While severe liver infection or failure may require hospitalisation, most cases do not require admission, he adds.&nbsp;

Hepatitis B and C: These viruses can cause chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Unlike Hepatitis A and E, they don't typically cause acute disease. Intravenous drug use, poorly sterilised medical equipment, and blood transfusions without rigorous screening were major sources of transmission in the past. Today, with improved screening processes and public awareness, these routes have become less common.

While sexual transmission is possible, the risk is relatively low compared to other hepatitis viruses, such as Hepatitis B. It is important to practice safe sex and use barrier protection to reduce the risk of transmission. 
 
When HCV enters the body, it can cause an acute infection with symptoms similar to the flu. However, it often goes undiagnosed because the symptoms can be mild or non-specific. Approximately 10–20 per cent of people infected with HCV will naturally clear the virus without any specific treatment.

NAFLD is closely associated with a sedentary lifestyle and excessive calorie intake, often linked to metabolic syndrome, which includes obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and abnormal lipid profiles.

Excess body weight is the most common risk factor for NAFLD in India, seen in almost 90 per cent of patients. Diabetes is also commonly associated with NAFLD.

Diagnosed mostly through routine blood tests or incidental ultrasound findings, NAFLD might not present significant symptoms in its early stages. Lifestyle intervention becomes the cornerstone of treatment, with dietary management and exercise aimed at reducing weight, which can reverse or control disease progression.

Studies recommend a 7-10 per cent&nbsp;weight loss to achieve meaningful liver health improvement.

Dietary changes play a crucial role, involving calorie restriction, reduced consumption of carbohydrates and saturated fats, and avoiding sweetened beverages and trans-fats.
