Injury and poor form made it a forgettable IPL for Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman but the time away from the field was well spent as he picked on&nbsp;<a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/inability-to-perform-in-powerplays-knocked-punjab-out-says-captain-r-ashwin-215818&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiJ-KGfuIniAhUGTo8KHfhECTMQFjAEegQIDBAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw3zPyEuU-v33_uHVG3Bc_Oi">Punjab </a>skipper Ravichandran Ashwin's brains ahead of the World Cup in England.

A shoulder injury meant that the 18-year-old wasn't at his best during the cash-rich league, getting only three wickets in five games with an expensive economy rate of 10.05 runs per over.

"I have learnt a lot having spent quality time with Ravichandran Ashwin in the Punjab&nbsp;set-up. He has given me a lot of useful tips and I am sure that I will execute those plans in the World Cup. During this edition of IPL, my shoulder injury was an issue. But now I am fully fit for the World Cup," Mujeeb told reporters at a promotional event to announce Amul's association with Afghanistan national team.

While he hasn't played many matches this year, the best part about IPL according to Mujeeb is the opportunity to bowl at some of the prospective World Cup opponents.

"The IPL schedule is so hectic and you are travelling a lot. It's not that you get a lot of chance to talk about the game. But since you get a chance to bowl in matches where there are batsmen who will be there in the World Cup, it helps a lot," said the Afghan teenager.

Asked if he faced the second season blues, something which was evident as he went for 66 runs in his four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mujeeb attributed it to being part and parcel of cricket.

"You will have a few bad days and it's just that you have to be consistent with your line and length," Mujeeb said.

The youngster is hopeful that along with senior spinners Rashid Khan and Mohammed Nabi, it will be a better World Cup for Afghanistan compared to the 2015 edition where they were making a debut.

"Our aim is to at least qualify for the semi-finals. All three of us have different strengths and the main thing that we discuss on-field is to stick to our respective plans. The basic plan is to consistently bowl good areas and hopefully, we will be able to do that," Mujeeb&nbsp;said.

South Africa have called up all-rounder Chris Morris for their <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/south-africa-can-end-world-cup-agony-dale-steyn-211431&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiilf6EvoniAhUCSY8KHTaiCpsQFjAAegQIAxAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw03Qpe9sHzxBpDhGgU6MDWB">Cricket World Cup</a> squad after a hand injury ruled fast bowler Anrich Nortje out of the tournament, in the latest setback for the injury-plagued side.

Nortje fractured his right thumb while practising in the nets and will need six to eight weeks to make a full recovery, a media statement from Cricket South Africa confirmed on Tuesday.

"Anrich sustained a fracture to his right thumb during a net session in Port Elizabeth on Monday. He immediately consulted a hand surgeon and underwent surgery to stabilise the joint and will, unfortunately, be sidelined for up to eight weeks," team manager Mohammed Moosajee said.

"It is an unfortunate and freakish injury, especially because he had made a successful recovery from the shoulder injury he sustained during the series against Sri Lanka."

Morris has not played One-Day International cricket for South Africa since February 2018, but is a regular in the Twenty20 set-up and is well-regarded for his swing and 'death bowling' in the final few overs when batsmen aim for big hits.

He can also be a powerful lower-order batsman, able to easily clear the boundary ropes.

His record in 50-over cricket is modest though, with 35 wickets in 34 matches at an average of over 40, while he averages less than 20 with the bat.

"Chris has always been in our plans and is our next best option with the ball," South Africa selection convener Linda Zondi said.

"He has the pace and death-bowling skills which will be vital in the UK, and also gives us that depth as a deadly finisher with the bat. We have had concerns around his injuries and workload capabilities, but this is an opportunity for him to make a mark on the biggest stage", Zondi added.

Lungi Ngidi dropped out of the Indian Premier League before it began with a side strain, while Kagiso Rabada (back) and Dale Steyn (shoulder) were both withdrawn from that competition due to injury concerns.

The trio is likely to all start if they can prove their fitness, and it would be a massive blow for the team's chances if they fail to do so.

"It`s exciting to see the crux of the squad together and to start the journey of the summer. And for us to find a way of winning two games, I know this is a different format, but the majority of the squad will be around for the 50-over stuff," International Cricket Council (ICC) quoted Root as saying.

"It was a great chance for us to start going in the right direction, to get some momentum going into the one-day series. It`s really pleasing to be two from two and, hopefully, now carry that forward throughout those five games," he added.

England registered a seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in a one-off T20I on Sunday and the pleasing fact for the team was that the win was achieved in the absence of key players like Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, and Ben Stokes.

"You could see the value of what he could bring to a side, that extra bit of zip. He is someone that wants to get into the game and make things happen, which is a brilliant quality to have," Archer said.

"What this game did is provide a huge opportunity for guys who haven`t played a huge amount for England, either before or in recent times. It was really important that those guys got something out of it. It`s about them trying to take that opportunity and us finding a way of winning without a normal-looking T20 side, and I thought it was a fantastic effort from the group to win in the manner that we did," Root&nbsp;added.

Exciting to see 'crux of squad' together, says Joe Root after England's T20I win against Pakistan

India batting great Sunil Gavaskar believes England are a transformed one-day international side since their shock exit from the 2015 World Cup and rates them as favourites to win their maiden crown on home soil in July.

Eoin Morgan's side, whose quest for a first 50-overs title begins against South Africa at The Oval on May 30, top the world rankings enter the tournament as the one of the most consistent teams in the format.

"England are the favourites. Simply because of the way they are playing cricket, the complete turnaround in their cricketing attitude and approach after their disastrous 2015 World Cup," Gavaskar told Reuters in an interview.

"England have got a very good team, they have got lots of confidence. You have seen them in all the recent matches and they have been playing outstanding cricket."

Morgan's men have played a fearless brand of cricket in the recent years and since the start of 2018 have come out on top in bilateral ODI series against World Cup holders Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and India.

Gavaskar believes having home advantage could also be telling after Australia won as hosts in 2015 and India did the same four years earlier.

"If you go by what has happened in the last couple of World Cups, the host team has won," he added.

"But, of course, in cricket anything can happen. While England start the favourites, there are other teams which are also playing some good cricket."

Gavaskar was speaking after pledging to sponsor 34 paediatric heart surgeries for economically deprived children at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani International Centre for Child Heart Care at the satellite city of Navi Mumbai.

The semi-rural setting was a far cry from the glamorous environs of Gavaskar's normal workplace as a TV media pundit and rather than former cricketers, he was surrounded by medical professionals who treat children for free.

His study of the game from the commentary box has convinced him that holders Australia, with Steve Smith and David Warner back in the fold after their ball-tampering bans, and a resurgent West Indies are other title contenders.

Virat Kohli's India side will also post a big challenge, the 69-year-old felt.

"I think these are the four teams that can really stand out," added former India captain and opening batsman Gavaskar, who once held the record for most test runs and centuries in the longest format.

Gavaskar said a hot English summer could add to the excitement of the World Cup as the pitches would be drier and make shot-making easier for the batsmen.

The format for the May 30-July 14 tournament has also seen a change from the previous years with all 10 teams playing each other before the top four advance to the semi-finals.

"This should be a very, very interesting tournament and I think the format is the best you can have because you are playing every team unlike in two groups," said Gavaskar, who was part of the Indian team that beat the mighty West Indies to win the 1983 World Cup.

"You can have a bogey team with whom you lose in bilateral matches but they could be in another group and you might never play them.

"So you can win without having played your bogey team (in the past) while this format, where each team plays each other, I think is the best."

You have seen them in all the recent matches and they have been playing outstanding cricket." Morgan's men have played a fearless brand of cricket in the recent years and since the start of 2018 have come out on top in bilateral ODI series against World Cup holders Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and India. Gavaskar believes having home advantage could also be telling after Australia won as hosts in 2015 and India did the same four years earlier. "If you go by what has happened in the last couple of World Cups, the host team has won," he added. "But, of course, in cricket anything can happen. While England start the favourites, there are other teams which are also playing some good cricket." Gavaskar was speaking after pledging to sponsor 34 paediatric heart surgeries for economically deprived children at the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani International Centre for Child Heart Care at the satellite city of Navi Mumbai. Best bowling and fielding figures in World Cup history

Tom Curran and Ben Foakes put together an unbeaten 98-run partnership to help England beat Ireland by four wickets in a one-off one-dayer in Malahide on Friday.

Chasing 199 to win, England slipped to 101 for six as Ireland`s 19-year-old debutant bowler Josh Little made the most of seaming conditions to claim 4-45.

However, wicketkeeper-batsman Foakes scored an unbeaten 61 and all-rounder Curran added 47 not out to give the top-ranked one-day side a scrappy victory.

England had won the toss and elected to bowl after the match was put back by two hours and reduced to 45 overs per side amid concerns over a soggy outfield after overnight rain.

Ireland captain William Porterfield and Paul Stirling made a steady start and were 46 without loss at the end of 10 overs.

But when they had reached 55, England quick Curran lured Stirling (33) into chipping the ball to a diving Jofra Archer at mid-on.

Seamer Liam Plunkett removed Porterfield (17) and Lorcan Tucker (seven), before Curran added a second of his own when Joe Denly caught the experienced Kevin O`Brien (four) at backward point.

The hosts were 111-6 but debutant Mark Adair hinted at a fightback as he smashed two sixes off Curran.

Archer, who conceded 21 runs off his first spell of four overs on his ODI debut, returned to the attack to remove Adair with a 90 mph ball that went clean through the batsman and uprooted the off stump.

Barbados-born all-rounder Archer is among a number of players who, despite being left out of England`s preliminary squad for the World Cup, will be hoping to stake a claim for a late call-up to the tournament starting May 30.

Plunkett, who finished as England`s standout bowler with 4-35, and Curran picked apart the Ireland lower order as the hosts were all out with 11 balls to play.

"At certain stages we knew it would be challenging, but the bowlers did a great job," England captain Eoin Morgan said.&nbsp;

"Three or four of us batted really poorly but Foakes was outstanding on debut ... he and Curran got us over the line."

England next travel to Cardiff for a one-off Twenty20 against Pakistan on Sunday, before the two teams play a five-match ODI series starting Wednesday.

'Team boosted' as David Warner and Steve Smith join Australia's World Cup training camp

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc said that the team has moved on from a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=ball+tampering">ball-tampering scandal</a> that rocked the cricket fraternity and now focused on the upcoming cricket World Cup which will kick off from May 30.&nbsp;

Former Australian captain Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner were found guilty of altering the condition of the ball in 2018 playing against South Africa.&nbsp;

Smith and Warner, who served a year-long ban, now have joined their teammates as they gathered for a pre-World Cup training camp.&nbsp;

"It is onwards, upwards and focused on the World Cup. It is all rosy," ICC quoted Starc, as saying.&nbsp;

The duo had missed Australia's recent away series against Pakistan in UAE but both the cricketers were welcomed into the Australia dressing room to know how things have changed under Aaron Finch's leadership and coach Justin Langer.&nbsp;

"We have all had our meetings and moved on. The meeting I was involved in with ... 95 per cent was not about Dave and Steve and the group. It was more about where the team was going," Starc said.&nbsp;

Both Smith and Warner will go into the 50-over tournament in England with their brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League 2019.&nbsp;

"He (Warner) has been on fire over there, along with Steve, so that is great for him and great for the group. He is a world-class player and we are excited to have him back," Starc said.&nbsp;

Some significant records made in previous editions of ICC World Cup

England captain Eoin Morgan said <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/alex-hales-withdrawn-from-englands-world-cup-squad-214471&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjh8KLz6v7hAhVx73MBHXjlAvEQFjABegQIEBAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw06d_yH9NwGWSeSKBauqTrq">Alex Hales</a>'&nbsp;actions showed "complete disregard" for values his team had built in recent years and confirmed it was the senior players who wanted the batsman to play no part in their World Cup preparations.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) dropped Hales from England`s preliminary World Cup squad after the Guardian reported the player had tested positive for recreational drugs.

Speaking ahead of England's one-off one-dayer against Ireland, Morgan discussed the process by which Hales was removed from the squad.

"I spoke to the coach (Trevor Bayliss) at depth and I spoke to all of our senior players - I actually called the meeting with the senior players to discuss moving forward, how it would affect the team and the team culture'', Morgan said.

"We've been working extremely hard over the last 18 months to try and build that team culture and established values that we could adhere to. But with this Alex has clearly demonstrated a lack of respect for these values, and there has been a complete breakdown of trust between the team and Alex. Out of that meeting, everybody agreed that the best decision was for Alex to be de-selected", Morgan added.

Hales was fined and suspended for his part in a nightclub altercation which also involved teammate Ben Stokes in 2017.

Morgan said the decision to remove Hales from the group had been reached after consulting with Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Stokes, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes at the team’s training camp in Cardiff last weekend.

"We will need at least 15 men to win that World Cup," Morgan said.&nbsp;

"For whatever way Alex would have dealt with it, the other 14 people would have been dragged down and that would have been quite a weight taken forward, and that didn`t outweigh his performance", Morgan added.

Morgan confirmed all-rounder Jofra Archer will make his much-anticipated England debut against Ireland, while Dawid Malan and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes will also feature for the first time.

After the reports which stated that Hales failed a recreational drug test for the second time, he was withdrawn from England`s World Cup squad, the one-off one-day international (ODI) against Ireland and the limited-overs series against Pakistan.

Moreover, the 30-year-old was banned for 21 days.

Hales will now be seen in action as the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club confirmed the that he will be available for selection for all white-ball cricket for the remainder of the 2019 season.

"The meeting was open, honest and constructive and a way forward was agreed between both parties. Alex has expressed a great deal of regret and contrition for his actions and he has ultimately paid a heavy price," Nottinghamshire said in a statement.

"He accepts that the position he finds himself in is of his own making. He knows he has a long road back to redeem himself in the eyes of many people, but that now has to be his aim," it added.

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said it is a very disappointing thing for a player to miss the World Cup but he expressed that Hales should react in the right way.

"I'd like him to be involved. Anyone who misses out on a World Cup is going to be very disappointed. But it`s how he reacts to it - I expect Alex to react in the right way," ICC quoted Moores as saying.&nbsp;

Legendary cricketer <a href="https://www.wionews.com/search?q=Sachin+Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</a> Thursday said the World Cup in the United Kingdom will offer beautiful batting tracks but he doesn't expect the ball to swing much in the hot conditions that will prevail there.

The World Cup, which will kick-start on May 30 in the UK, will see all 10 participating nations face-off against each other.

"I am told it's going to be a hot summer. Even in the Champions Trophy, the wickets were superb when the sun was out. In the heat, the wickets get really flat. I am sure they will give beautiful tracks to bat on," Tendulkar said on the sidelines of the inauguration of the MIG Club pavilion named after him.&nbsp;

"I don't think there will be much difference in the conditions unless there is a heavy cloud cover. If there is a cloud cover, the ball might go around a bit. Even if that's the case I don't see that happening for a longer duration just the first over if at all," he added.&nbsp;

Several Indian players, including captain Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, are performing well in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Asked if that will help them in the World Cup, Tendulkar said,&nbsp;"A good performance in any format is good news because it gives the player confidence. If you are confident in any format, that's important."

"The players have time to make some adjustments according to the conditions. All of them have played enough cricket to know what to do to improve," he added.

The 46-year-old, who also launched the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy camp here, recalled an interesting anecdote from one of the playing trips to England.

"Once, we played a match in Essex and were travelling to our next venue and there was a major motor accident. In 3-3.5 hours we had just covered just 250 metres. We thought if we walk we might possibly cover more distance. Even now when all of us get together we discuss that day and how half a movie ended while our bus coach was stuck at the same place", he said.

The cricket icon also extended his best wishes to another batting legend Brian Lara on his birthday.

"We both caught up a few weeks ago. I told him 50 down 50 to go. He is a wonderful chap, with him what you see is what you get. He is a thorough gentleman and we've gotten along well for several years. He has done special things on the cricket field but I hope the best is yet to come for him," Tendulkar said

The globe represents a cricket ball and the columns, which are shaped as stumps and bails, represent the three fundamental aspects of cricket: batting, bowling and fielding.&nbsp;

The current trophy stands 60 cm high and weighs approximately 11 kilograms. On the base, the names of the previous winners are engraved, with space for a total of twenty inscriptions.&nbsp;

The original trophy is kept by the ICC in its offices in Dubai but a replica is awarded to the winning team.&nbsp;

Prior to the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy, different trophies were made for each World Cup. Here's a list of all the designs.&nbsp;

Prudential Cup Trophy
For the first three World Cups, i.e., from 1975–1983, the Prudential Cups trophy was awarded. West Indies won it in 1975 and 1979 and Kapil Dev-led India clinched it in 1983.&nbsp;

Reliance World Cup Trophy
In the World Cup 1999, the trophy design changed with the sponsors. Allan Border-led Australian team won it.&nbsp;

Benson and Hedges Cup Trophy
The 1992 World Cup saw a different trophy. Its name was Benson and Hedges Cup, sponsored by Benson and Hedges. Pakistan was the winner of that tournament.&nbsp;

Wills World Cup Trophy
In 1996 the winner Sri Lanka lifted a different trophy, whose name was Wills World Cup, sponsored by Wills, an ITC brand.&nbsp;

ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy
In 1999, the International Cricket Council decided to award its own trophy and the trophy remained same ever since.&nbsp;

Batsman <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/england-batsman-alex-hales-takes-break-for-personal-reasons-211972">Alex Hales</a> has been withdrawn from England's preliminary World Cup squad to avoid any "unnecessary distractions" ahead of the showpiece tournament, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Monday.

Hales, who was named in England's preliminary World Cup squad, is serving a three-week ban for recreational drug use, the Guardian newspaper reported on Friday.

"We've worked hard to create the right environment around the England team and need to consider what is in the best interests of the team..." Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, Ashley Giles, said in a statement.

"I want to make it clear this is not the end of Alex's career as an England player. The ECB and the PCA will continue to aid Alex and work alongside his county club Nottinghamshire to give him the support he needs, to help him fulfil his potential as a professional cricketer."

The Nottinghamshire batsman will not travel to Ireland for a one-off ODI on Friday and has also been removed from England’s ODI and Twenty20 squads against Pakistan.

Hales was fined and suspended for his involvement in a nightclub altercation with team mate Ben Stokes in 2017.

The 30-year-old was given a six-match one-day international ban in December. He had already missed two games and the remainder of the ban was suspended for 12 months so he could be available for selection.

All-rounders Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine failed to make the cut as West Indies announced their 15-man squad for the World Cup on Wednesday with Jason Holder set to lead the team for the tournament in England and Wales.

Hard-hitting opening batsman Chris Gayle, 39, was called up for what will be his fifth World Cup as was all-rounder Andre Russell, who is currently averaging 65 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

"He's scored a lot of runs and we'll be using him as a batting all-rounder," coach Floyd Reifer said of Russell. "He's doing very well in the IPL. We've got to manage his injuries and have three to four days rest between the games."

All-rounders Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine failed to make the cut as West Indies announced their 15-man squad for the World Cup on Wednesday with Jason Holder set to lead the team for the tournament in England and Wales. Hard-hitting opening batsman Chris Gayle, 39, was called up for what will be his fifth World Cup as was all-rounder Andre Russell, who is currently averaging 65 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). "He's scored a lot of runs and we'll be using him as a batting all-rounder," coach Floyd Reifer said of Russell. "He's doing very well in the IPL. We've got to manage his injuries and have three to four days rest between the games." The current Indian team's strength makes them "favourites" going into any competition leave alone <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/icc-world-cup-2019-all-teams-and-their-squad-list-211495">World Cup</a> where they are sureshot semi-finalists alongside Australia, England and Pakistan.&nbsp;

The former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who led the team to the 2003 World Cup finals expects that current round-robin format will be one of the most "keenly contested" tournament.&nbsp;

"My pick for the four semifinalists spot would be India, Australia, England and Pakistan. India are one of the title-contenders of course," Ganguly told PTI in an interview.

Ten teams will be competing in the ODI cricket's quadrennial extravaganza in a round robin format where every team plays each other before the semifinals.

"It's going to be one of the most keenly contested World Cups. Indian team is so strong that in any tournament they will be favourites.&nbsp;

This World Cup will probably be the best format. The best four teams will reach the semi-finals playing all the teams. There are no easy teams," said Ganguly.

Kuldeep Yadav's four wickets in nine games is not something that will affect his performance in the World Cup.

"He will get wickets in the World Cup, don't worry. He's a superb bowler," Ganguly said without reading much into Kuldeep's below-par show for KKR.

The Prince of Kolkata is now playing a pivotal role in the turnaround of Delhi team&nbsp;in search of an elusive IPL title.

"I don't see the challenges as tough, I just find a way to try and make it work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. It's a great honour to help these players and turn around a team which has not done well in the past," the Delhi advisor said.

Delhi are occupying second place behind Chennai in the leaderboard as they need one win from three matches to seal their playoff berth.

"Delhi is a mixture of youth and experience. I can only advice so the credit should go to players who actually execute it."

The team has two legends at the helm with Ganguly working alongside his former Aussie counterpart Ricky Ponting who is the head coach of the franchise.

"We are great friends for a long period of time. I was the runners-up in the (2003) World Cup which he had won. He has great experience. It's been a pleasure working with him. The way he adjusts to player's needs is a remarkable experience. He's a fantastic coach," Ganguly said showering praise on Ponting.&nbsp;

Asked about the glitz and glamour of the IPL, Ganguly said: "IPL is pure sport. The glitz and glamour is just 15 per cent. 85% is actually professional, hard cricket. Players are under enormous pressure to perform."

"It's holding up, it's not showing signs of getting worse. With the World Cup coming up, I have to keep in mind that I can't really get injured," Dhoni said of his injury after Chennai's six-wicket victory over Hyderabad on Tuesday.

"There's a bit of stiffness. There was a bit of spasm at the start of the tournament but there's no spasm as of now. I'm used to playing international cricket with some kind of pain", said Dhoni.

He added, "If you wait to be 100 per cent before you play a game maybe you'd have to wait five years before you play the next game. It's something I can afford to do. If it gets worse, I'll definitely take some time off."

Dhoni to take rest before World Cup if back trouble worsens

Pacer Navdeep Saini, who is among India's standbys for the World Cup, says he is ready for his big break in the mega event should the need arises.&nbsp;

After attracting selectors' attention with a splendid season for Delhi in domestic cricket, the 26-year-old has impressed with his pace and bounce for Bangalore in the IPL.

The uncapped pacer is the sole bowler among the standbys with the others being Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant. Saini will also be travelling with the World Cup squad as one of the four net bowlers alongside Khaeel Ahmed, Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar.

"Absolutely (I'm ready)... The confidence of doing well in IPL will give me a big boost. If I get a chance in World Cup, I hope to do well," the shy lad from Haryana told reporters after <a href="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/kohli-credits-game-changer-moeen-after-bangalore-win-211986&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjE4_GYyt7hAhUG3Y8KHbRjDbQQFggNMAM&amp;client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;usg=AOvVaw1kUdckQgZ3XPE-KdiSSl0s">Bangalore's 10-run win</a> over Kolkata&nbsp;at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.

On his World Cup preparation, he said: "We talk during the matches but the most important thing is to pay full attention at the nets. If you do well at the nets, you will do well in a match as well.

"My dad has always told me to give your 110 per cent effort wherever you play. I'm putting in that extra effort always in practice session and in a match."

Saini is also gaining from the vast experience of South African great Dale Steyn who has come on board as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile.
"I had a discussion with him on the eve of the match. He just told me to bowl the same way and not try anything different," Saini said.

Saini returned with figures 1/31 taking the prized-scalp of the explosive&nbsp;Sunil Narine.

Impressed with the bounce at Eden Gardens, he said: "I have bowled on other wickets but never generated this kind of bounce anywhere. The plan was to bowl length deliveries as I was getting that extra bounce.&nbsp;

"Against (Andre) Russell, the strategy was to hit the deck hard to generate a bit of extra bounce," he said of their strategy against the West Indies big-hitter who had threatened to script yet another near-impossible win with his brutal assault of 65 from 25 balls.

In the first leg at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Russell had sealed a 206-run chase with five balls to spare and the memories had come to haunt Bangalore&nbsp;while defending 214.

"Yes it was very much like the first leg match. But we wanted to execute our plans in a better way at the death. It was about out-thinking the batsmen. We wanted to go one step ahead," he said as Bangalore&nbsp;bowlers Moeen Ali and Marcus Stoinis held nerves in the final two overs to get their team over the line.

"Alex Hales has made himself unavailable for selection for personal reasons and no timetable has been set for his return to action," Nottinghamshire said in a statement on their website.

Hales missed Nottinghamshire's 50-over match against Lancashire on Friday.

It is unclear whether the 30-year-old opening batsman, who has played 70 ODIs, will be available for England's one-dayer against Ireland on May 3 or a five-match ODI series and Twenty20 international against Pakistan.

Those matches will be England's final internationals before they begin their campaign to win their maiden 50-over World Cup during the May 30-July 14 tournament on home soil.

Steve Smith and David Warner completed their remarkable comeback from the ball-tampering scandal that rocked cricket when they were on Monday selected in defending champion Australia's&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;squad.

But there was no room for Josh Hazlewood or Peter Handscomb at the tournament in England and Wales.

It is the first call-up for the former captain and his deputy since the expiry last month of year-long bans for their part in &nbsp;"sandpapergate" in Cape Town that had wide repercussions for Australian cricket.

Then-coach Darren Lehmann quit and all the top brass from Cricket Australia left after a scathing review said their "arrogant and controlling" win-at-all-costs culture was partly to blame for players bending the rules.

Both players were eligible for the final two games of Australia's recent limited-overs tour against Pakistan, but selectors preferred that they eased themselves back at the Twenty20 Indian Premier League.

Both grabbed the opportunity and have been in good touch, particularly the bombastic Warner who has made a blistering return.

"As far as I'm concerned they have done everything that's been asked of them in the last 12 months," said one-day skipper Aaron Finch, adding that he didn't believe their return would be destabilising.

"Knowing them both personally as I do, I don't think there will be any issues whatsoever. They are both great, great guys."

Their return has left coach Justin Langer with a dilemma on the back of Australia winning eight one-day internationals on the trot, against India and Pakistan.

All the top order have been firing, and it is Handscomb who is the fall guy despite averaging 43 in 13 games this year. The decision to drop him means the team only has one wicketkeeper in Alex Carey.

Rock-solid batting

Australia's recent red-hot form has been built on the back of a rock-solid opening partnership between Finch and Usman Khawaja.

The decision for Langer now is whether to retain that combination when the 50-over&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;begins at the end of next month or move one of them down to make way for Warner, who traditionally opens the batting.

Shaun Marsh, Smith, Glenn Maxwell and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis make up the middle order.

"There's so much flexibility in our order and there will be a lot of options," said Finch. "There's been a couple of hard decisions made on the 15, but there's going to be some even tougher ones with the 11."

Selectors opted for two spinners in Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon and five quick bowlers.

As with the batsmen, Australia's selectors faced a bowling conundrum as they target a record sixth&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;triumph.&nbsp;

Pat Cummins will spearhead the attack while Mitchell Starc, the 2015&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;player of the tournament, has been recalled after being sidelined with a muscle tear since early February.

But Hazlewood, who has been out of action since January with a back injury, missed out, with chief selector Trevor Hohns saying the focus was on having him ready for the Ashes Test series in England which begins in August.&nbsp;

Jhye Richardson, who dislocated his shoulder last month, makes the grade along with Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff.

Hazlewood and Handscomb were instead named in both Australia's one-day A&nbsp;squad, which will play games in England while the&nbsp;World&nbsp;Cup&nbsp;is on, and their four-day A&nbsp;squad&nbsp;to face English county sides in the build-up to the Ashes.

FIFA's drive to expand World Cup 2022 and stage it beyond Qatar risks including host countries that do not meet the soccer governing body's own standards on rights and labour, campaign groups said on Tuesday.

FIFA will discuss expanding the tournament to 48 teams from 32 at a council meeting this week - a format it says will likely require it to stage matches in neighbouring Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait or Oman.

"There are clear human rights risks associated with adding new hosts for the 2022 World Cup," said Stephen Cockburn, Deputy Director of Global Issues at&nbsp;Amnesty&nbsp;International.

"Not least the potential widespread exploitation of migrant workers providing construction and other services for the World Cup that could cast a major shadow over the world's biggest sporting event," he said.

Qatar has come under fire from rights groups in recent years that say its sponsorship system for workers restricts their ability to leave the country, change jobs, and collect owed wages, leaving them vulnerable to abuse.

Doha says it is committed to reform and has enacted measures such as introducing a minimum wage, ending a requirement for permits to exit the country for most workers, and setting up dispute panels to hear workers' grievances.

There was no immediate reaction from other Gulf Arab countries on Tuesday.

While some such as the United Arab Emirates have introduced labour reforms, such as guaranteed time off for domestic workers, rights groups say their sponsorship systems still often leave workers vulnerable by restricting freedom of movement.

In a letter to FIFA head Gianni Infantino, groups including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the International Trade Union Congress said FIFA must ensure any additional hosts meet rights standards introduced by the soccer body in 2017 and make similar reform pledges.

A FIFA spokesperson said its commitment to human rights are "unequivocal" and written into the hosting requirements of all future tournaments.

The FIFA spokesperson said the feasibility study being presented on Friday confirmed that these standards would apply to any co-hosting country.

The prospects for expansion have been complicated by a Gulf dispute under which Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain imposed a political and economic boycott of Qatar in mid-2017 over allegations it supports terrorism, which Doha denies.

FIFA has courted Kuwait and Oman, which have remained neutral in the dispute, as alternative sites according to a New York Times report.

As FIFA eyes World Cup expansion, rights groups say workers at risk

Every member of England women's squad is made to feel valued and the sense of togetherness will stand the Lionesses in good stead at the World Cup later this year, defender Leah Williamson has said.

England beat eighth-ranked Japan 3-0 in the SheBelieves Cup on Tuesday to pip hosts and defending world champions United States to the title and boost their hopes ahead of the June 7-July 7 World Cup in France.

Arsenal's Williamson, who did not feature in the four-team tournament until the final group game, said every player would have an important role as England look to build on their third-placed finish in 2015 and win a first World Cup title.

"We call ourselves The Finishers. We're not The Bench, we're there to back up anything that's going on the pitch and have a positive impact," Williamson was quoted as saying by the Guardian newspaper.

"There's people that are going to go to a major tournament and not be involved, and that's a reality and part of being a footballer. We work really hard on the team.

"It's a hard balance to get when you go away for a tournament, hopefully for the longest time. The fact that we've shown that those players can come and deliver when they need to is important."

England, who are fourth in the world rankings, have been drawn in Group D alongside Scotland, Argentina and Japan at the World Cup. They open their campaign against Scotland on June 9.
