The central government has hit back at Mamata Banerjee after the West Bengal chief minister wrote a second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting stringent central legislation, in connection to the Kolkata horror rape-murder of a doctor.&nbsp;

While Mamata attempted to shift the blame, the&nbsp;central government did not have any of it and said her administration had not done enough to implement the same in “letter and spirit” in the state. It also added that Mamta's letter and its contents were 'factually incorrect'.&nbsp;

"In spite of the pendency of 48,600 rape and POCSO cases in West Bengal, the State has not operationalised additional 11 FTSCs which may be exclusive POCSO courts or combined FTSCs dealing with both rape and POCSO cases, as per the state's requirement," said Annapurna Devi, Union minister for women and child development, in the letter.&nbsp;

“As may be seen, the information contained in your letter in this regard is factually incorrect and appears to be a step in the direction to cover up the delays in operationalising the FTSCs by the state,” the letter added.

The demands have been shared as a post by several prominent actresses of the Bengali film industry including Paoli Dam, Parno Mitra and Ritabhari Chakraborty.&nbsp; 
 
Some of the demands listed in the post strict adherence to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, 2013, which mandates safe workspaces for women employees and the formation of Internal Committees (IC), hiring intimacy coordinators on sets for overseeing intimate scenes, and 24/7 helpline for victims and survivors of sexual harassment in the industry. 
 
“It is indeed striking that some of us are yet to take a stand against the recurring incidents of sexual abuse/ harassment/ violence within our own workplaces. As women working in the Bengali film, web platform and television industry, we face various kinds of sexual abuse every day; as well as regularly hear of the rampant abuse faced by women, children and those of marginal identities,” the letter states.&nbsp;

More than 100 women have signed the letter including Aparna Sen, Anuradha Ray, Swastika Mukherjee Rupa Ganguly, Sohini Sarkar, Chaitali Dasgupta, Paoli Dam, Sohini Sengupta, Bidipta Chakraborty, Shakuntala Barua, and Medhatithi Banerjee.

In a new revelation in the horrific Kolkata murder-rape case, the bike used by the main accused Sanjay Roy, was registered in the name of Kolkata's Commissioner of Police, Indian news media, India Today reported.&nbsp;

Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, on Tuesday, stressed that the conviction rate for rape cases in India stands at 26 per cent, further demanding a stringent "anti-rape law" that ensures trials and convictions within 50 days.&nbsp;

Weeks after the horrific Kolkata murder-rape case, Banerjee shared a chart on X, highlighting the cases of rape and atrocities against women in the last 15 days after the RG Kar Hospital incident.&nbsp;

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee stated, "This collage stands as a stark reminder of the state of affairs in India over the last 15 days as the nation fights for justice against rape. The answer is clear: a stringent anti-rape law that ensures trials and convictions within 50 days, followed by immediate and harsh punishment. The shocking truth is that the conviction rate for rape cases in India is a dismal 26 per cent. This translates to only 26 convictions out of every 100 reported cases, while 74 offenders escape unpunished."

"If we are to deliver justice to the victims of this appalling crime, it is imperative that we demand a time-bound anti-rape law from our state and union government," he added.

This comes as West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee's government faces severe criticism over the delay in providing justice to the trainee doctor, who was brutally murdered and lost her life earlier this month.&nbsp;

Days after the horrific case of rape and murder&nbsp;emerged in Kolkata's RG Kar hospital, an acid attack has been reported in Belur, creating a stir in the Bhot Bhagan area in West Bengal. A young woman was attacked with acid around 1 am last night, while she was asleep inside her home, according to the reports.&nbsp;

The woman has suffered severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Howrah District Hospital.

Following the attack, the Belur police have initiated&nbsp;investigation.&nbsp;

The first thing is, is it true that the UD (unnatural death) was recorded at 10.30 hours (10.30 am)? Second, who is this assistant superintendent non-medical (person), her conduct is also very doubtful. Why did she act in this manner?," asked Justice Pardiwala while slamming&nbsp;the West Bengal government.&nbsp;

The apex court also interjected to claim that 150 gm of semen was found, saying, "We have the actual autopsy report before us, and we know what the 150 gm refers to. Please don't use social media to make your arguments."

Previously, senior Trinamool Congress leader&nbsp;Kunal Ghosh reportedly submitted to the CBI documents related to the corruption of Dr Sandip Ghosh.

The TMC leader claimed that junior doctors of the hospital have supplied all the information and documents related to Ghosh's corruption. He also said that if CBI finds these documents necessary, the doctors will be happy to cooperate with the agency.

Inspired by the report, we also conducted our own research into these trends, and the results are nothing short of disturbing.

While WION has resolutely skipped sharing the doctor's identity, her name was leaked on&nbsp;the internet. A search on Google trends revealed that the victim's name, followed by terms like "video", "rape video" are trending in India, especially over the last seven days.

A preliminary autopsy of her body had suggested that the trainee doctor was subjected to violent sexual assault. Now, the detailed autopsy of her body found that she was strangled to death. The results, which were shared with the media in the last seven days, revealed evidence of sexual assault and that the body carried 16 external and nine internal injury marks.

The post-mortem examination of the victim revealed that she was subjected to strangulation, smothering, and forceful penetration.&nbsp;

The tragic incident has sparked widespread nationwide protests in India, which have seen the participation of both doctors and medical fraternities. On Wednesday (August 14) a mob entered the&nbsp;RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and&nbsp;damaged the protest site, vehicles, and public property.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that the Left is in connivance with the Ram (the Bharatiya Janata party) to create unrest in West Bengal.

"Left and Ram want to create unrest in Bengal and they both have come together to do this," said Mamata as reported by news agency&nbsp;ANI.

"The people who vandalised RG Kar Hospital yesterday and created this ruckus are not connected to the student movement of RG Kar Medical College, they are outsiders, I have seen as many videos, I have three videos as I can see, in which some people are holding national flags, they are BJP people, and some are DYFI are holding white and red flags," she alleged.

Apart from five doctors at the hospital, the CBI also interrogated the hospital's former medical superintendent-cum-vice-principal (MSVP), the principal and the head of the chest department, where the victim's body was found.

Additionally, CBI spoke to the officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, under the jurisdiction of which the hospital is located.

The agency has also asked for details of Civic Volunteer Sanjay Roy's call detail record and mobile tower location. Roy has been arrested on suspicion of the murder.

"We are also looking into data consumed by his mobile to ascertain whether he made any video or internet voice calls," the officer said.

In their petition, the parents cited the autopsy report while claiming that 150 mg of semen was found in the victim’s body, "a quantity suggesting involvement of more than one individual,” further corroborating the suspicion of gang rape. The post-mortem report clearly said that the cause of the death was strangulation of the neck and “there are clear signs of sexual assault,” said the petition.

“Their daughter's body bore several injury marks, indicating a brutal and violent attack," the petition said.

It must be noted that the authorities in the West Bengal state, where the crime happened, earlier arrested one individual named Sanjoy Roy before the case was handed over to the federal agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

“No step taken to arrest any other offenders while the evidence clearly indicates that their daughter was the victim of a gang rape and murder, a crime that could not have been committed by one person alone," the parents' petition said.

<h2>Court reprimands hospital administration</h2>

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court severely reprimanded the hospital authorities and RG Kar Medical College’s former principal Dr Sandip Ghosh for not diligently handling the sensitive case. The court asked why the administration didn’t file a police complaint after the body of the girl was found dead.

The parents in their petition said, "they have come to learn through reliable sources that evidence exists on record suggesting that at least three individuals were involved in the strangulation of their daughter". "The significant amount of semen found in her body further supports the involvement of multiple perpetrators," they told the court.

The post-mortem of a female trainee doctor found dead at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in the Indian city of&nbsp;Kolkata has confirmed that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered, media reports said while citing a senior police official on Saturday (August 10).
