Cold wave conditions might improve for Rajasthan after January 4 and Uttar Pradesh after January 3. IMD observed 'very dense fog' in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. As a severe cold wave grips North India, train and vehicular traffic have been affected. In Delhi, Indian Railways delayed at least 26 trains due to the fog. The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 8.3 degrees Celsius on January 2, and the maximum temperature recorded was 17.2 degrees Celsius. Delhi also witnessed chilly winds on the morning of January 3. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index was recorded at 346 in Delhi at 6.30 am IST, indicating the 'very bad' category. Furthermore, Dal Lake in Kashmir's Srinagar has frozen. On Tuesday, Pahalgam in Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius. Amid the cold wave in North India, IMD has also predicted rainfall in certain states. South Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep might witness light to moderate showers at some places during the next two to three days "under the influence of easterly wave and the above Low-Pressure Area." Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh might have light isolated rainfall between January 3 to January 8. The weather department has predicted that Delhi will see an improvement in the fog situation, even as clear skies and shallow fog will prevail in the capital city in the coming week. Madhya Pradesh, northern regions of Maharashtra, and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh will witness a drop in night temperature. Cold conditions will also surge in neighbouring areas of Haryana and Rajasthan. Furthermore, IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in some regions of south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala, and Lakshadweep in the next three to four days. Light to isolated rainfall is also probable over Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh from January 2 to 5. Normal to above normal seasonal rainfall is likely to prevail over most parts of the country except parts of extreme south peninsular India, extreme northwest and northeast India where below normal rainfall is likely." The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert till Friday (Aug 25) predicting moderate to heavy rainfall, amid flash floods and landslides that have ravaged the area.&nbsp;

IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma speaking to ANI said, "There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in parts of the districts of Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, Una, Bilaspur and Kangra. We have issued a yellow alert for August 24 and 25."

The IMD scientist added that in the last 24 hours, the state has experienced light to moderate rainfall in several areas, while districts like Mandi, Kangra, Shima and Sirmaur saw heavy to very heavy rainfall. Joginder Nagar reported 154 mm, Palampur reported 136 mm and 70 mm of rainfall in Sirmaur.&nbsp;

Sharma said, "Shimla has the most departure of 103 per cent. Bilaspur has seen 86 per cent more rainfall. August saw 10 per cent more rainfall than usual and the most was in Mandi and Bilaspur."

Following the alert, the Himachal Pradesh administration has taken measures to ensure the safety of the residents. Almost 30 routes including Mandi, Kullu and Dharamshala have been suspended by the state transport department.&nbsp;
