Economists had forecast the goods trade deficit would widen to $98.2 billion, but instead it shrank by 10.8 per cent from May’s revised $96.4 billion level. Imports dropped $11.5 billion, or 4.2 per cent, to $264.2 billion, led by a steep 12.4 per cent plunge in consumer goods.
