United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty said in a recent interview that he is a better cook&nbsp;even though he does not get much time to spend in the kitchen with a busy day job running the country. However, Grazia’s women’s magazine interview of the couple ahead of International Women’s Day also garnered criticism from netizens.&nbsp;

During the joint interview at 10 Downing Street, the couple spoke about their day-to-day lives, daughters Krishna (12) and Anoushka (11), and how the country’s most high-profile couple share domestic duties.

“Rishi is the better cook. I do have a great deal of enthusiasm, but Rishi definitely has more talent in that department,” Murty said. It’s “mainly just breakfast on Saturday mornings now. Gordon Ramsay’s scrambled eggs,” Sunak added.&nbsp;

Murty, a businesswoman, also said she is “not a morning person,” and that Sunak is the tidier of the two.&nbsp;

A leading think tank, the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), has cautioned that tax cuts announced in Wednesday's Budget won't fully offset the impact of tax increases and rising prices, as per a BBC report.

Regardless of a $12.74 billion cut to National Insurance announced by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, the IFS predicts that households will still be worse off at the upcoming election than they were at the start of the current parliament.

The chancellor's strategy of tax cuts is part of a long-term reform plan aimed at shifting the tax burden away from workers, encouraging employment.

While the National Insurance cut is expected to benefit millions of workers, the IFS highlights that it only partially reverses the effects of other tax changes, such as freezing tax thresholds, which have resulted in a higher proportion of salaries being taken in tax.

According to the IFS, the tax changes will lead to varying patterns of gains and losses depending on income.

While an average earner may enjoy a tax cut of about $433.14 in the upcoming financial year, the gains diminish over time, with the average earner expected to be only $178.35 better off by 2027.

The think tank also notes that for every $1.27 given back to workers through the National Insurance cuts, $1.66 to $2.42 will have been taken away due to threshold changes between 2021 and 2024, indicating a net loss for taxpayers.

Labour leader Keir Starmer has criticised the government's strategy, accusing it of giving with one hand and taking even more with the other.

With an eye on the upcoming general election, the state of the economy and individuals' personal finances is under scrutiny.

The Conservatives hope slight upgrades to growth forecasts provided by the Office for Budget Responsibility will help change the narrative, but the IFS warns that overall living standards remain "dismal".

While the government's measures are expected to slightly increase borrowing in the next financial year, the Office for Budget Responsibility predicts borrowing to remain broadly in line with previous forecasts.

However, the country's debt as a proportion of GDP is set to rise over the next four years before marginally decreasing, with debt still expected to be 92.9 per cent of GDP in 2028-29, higher than the 89 per cent expected this year.

UK-owned Rubymar cargo ship, which was damaged in an attack by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebel group in February, has reportedly sunk in the Red Sea, Yemen's government said on Saturday (March 2).

The government further warned of an "environmental catastrophe" from the vessel's cargo of fertilizer.

"The MV Rubymar sank last night, coinciding with weather factors and strong winds at sea," said a crisis cell of Yemen's internationally recognised government in charge of the case.

Roy Khoury, chief executive of the ship's operator Blue Fleet, according to news agency AFP stated that he was unaware of the sinking.

"We have nobody on board to check if it's true or not," he said.

A Yemeni government team on Monday (Feb 26) had visited the Rubymar and said that the vessel was partially submerged. A government statement on Saturday also said that the ship had sunk in the southern Red Sea on Friday night.

<h2>'Environmental catastrophe'</h2>

Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, foreign minister in Yemen's Aden-based government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, said in a post on X: "The sinking of the Rubymar is an environmental catastrophe that Yemen and the region have never experienced before.

"It is a new tragedy for our country and our people. Every day we pay the price for the adventures of the Houthi militia ..."

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency on Saturday reported a ship sinking, however, did not identify it.

The ship was hit by missiles fired by the Houthis on Feb 18 and the crew onboard was immediately evacuated.

The US military had previously said that the Rubymar was loaded with over 41,000 tons of fertiliser at the time it was attacked, causing an 18-mile (29km) oil slick.

“The Houthis continue to demonstrate a disregard for the regional impact of their indiscriminate attacks, threatening the fishing industry, coastal communities, and imports of food supplies,” United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, warning that the ship’s cargo “could spill into the Red Sea and worsen this environmental disaster.”

Earlier, the Yemen's Iran-backed rebel group had vowed to prevent the rescue of the leaking ship until people in the war-torn Gaza Strip were provided with access to food, water, and medicine.

“The sinking British ship might be hauled in return for delivering aid vehicles to Gaza,” Al-Houthi said on X. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Hate preachers with radical Islamist views will now be barred from entering the United Kingdom under new plans being drafted by the government amidst a "shocking increase" in extremist activity.&nbsp;

The British officials will identify the most dangerous extremists from countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Indonesia and add them to visa warning lists. Under the new plans, the ones on the list will automatically be denied entry into the UK, according to a report by The Daily Telegraph.

Additionally, ministers also believe they may strengthen efforts to prevent those&nbsp;considered&nbsp;"non-conducive to the public good" from entering the UK by utilising already-existing national security capabilities.

This can entail putting people on the blacklist if they have a history of inciting violence or intimidation against democratic institutions or preaching racism.

The move comes after British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak delivered a dynamic speech from 10 Downing Street in London warning that extremists posed a threat to the UK's democratic and multi-faith values.

"We will also act to prevent people entering this country whose aim is to undermine its values," Sunak said in his speech on Friday.

"The Home Secretary has instructed that if those here on visas choose to spew hate on protests or seek to intimidate people we will remove their right to be here," he said.

He then also appealed to the demonstrators staging protests against the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip to be sure that their actions were not commandeered by extremists.

"The time has now come for us all to stand together to combat the forces of division and beat this poison. We must face down the extremists who would tear us apart," he said, warning that "Islamist extremists and the far right feed off and embolden each other".

An official review by Lord Walney, the government's independent adviser on political violence and disruption, implores ministers to address the increasing threats posed by Left-wing fringe organisations that have sided with Islamist extremists during pro-Palestine demonstrations held across the United Kingdom, as per The Daily Telegraph&nbsp;report.

"One of the conclusions of my review is to look at and understand the threat from anti-democratic far-Left groups, alongside that posed by Islamists and the far right... You are seeing an unholy alliance between far-Left groups and some of the Islamist extremism that has been seen on the marches," he told the newspaper.

Walney's report is with the UK Home Office and will be published later this month.

"Extremism has no place in our society and we will not tolerate tactics that set out to intimidate, threaten or cause disruption to the law-abiding majority," a Home Office spokesperson said.

"In recent months, we have also witnessed a small number of protestors display violent and hateful behaviour, and the police have our full support in tackling extremism and hate crime. We are considering the report's recommendations extremely carefully and will respond in due course," the spokesperson said.
