<p>The G D Goenka World School students were on their way home when a group of around 60 protesters attacked the bus with bamboo sticks asking the driver to stop the vehicle.</p>

<p>When the driver did not comply, the miscreants pelted the vehicle with stones.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The school bus staffer asked the kids to take cover under seats and directed the driver to not stop it, Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurugram Police said.</p>

<p>The Congressional Hispanic Caucus expressed fears on Tuesday that Republicans in the House of Representatives would pursue a harsh immigration bill written by Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte.</p>

<p>The House measure would allow Dreamers to renew their legal status for three years, instead of putting them on a pathway to citizenship, and would call for hiring 10,000 more agents at US&nbsp;borders while shutting down some visa programs and taking other steps to find people who are in the country illegally.</p>

<p>Republican Trump said during the 2016 election campaign Mexico would pay the cost of building a wall along the southwestern border of the United States to keep out illegal immigrants. Mexico has rejected the idea.</p>

<p>As a result, Trump has been forced to ask Congress for US&nbsp;taxpayer funds for the wall. Government estimates are that it could cost more than $21 billion.</p>

<p>With Democrats and many Republicans arguing there are more effective border enforcement tools than a wall, the proposal has become a major sticking point in immigration negotiations, which in turn have complicated talks about funding federal agencies.</p>

<p>The Senate&#39;s No. 2 Democrat, Dick Durbin, asked by a reporter whether Schumer offered Trump $25 billion for the wall in a major concession to the president, did not dispute the figure, but said: &quot;He did it in the context of a negotiation.&quot;</p>

<p><strong>Protecting the &#39;dreamers&#39;</strong></p>

<p>Democrats have been spearheading an effort to protect about 700,000 young Dreamers after Trump announced in September the end of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program instituted by his Democratic predecessor, Barack Obama.</p>

<p>The program, which began in 2012, gave qualified Dreamers, who were brought illegally to the United States as children, temporary protection from deportation and the ability to study and work in the United States.</p>

<p>Senator John Cornyn, the No. 2 Senate Republican, criticized Schumer for pulling the wall funding offer.</p>

<p>&quot;That basically sets the DACA discussion back,&quot; he told reporters.</p>

<p>Cornyn said there had been discussions of he and Durbin being a &quot;clearing house&quot; for suggestions from senators on legislation to rescue Dreamers from the threat of deportation and provide permanent protections for them.</p>

<p>In agreeing on Monday to end a three-day government shutdown - the first since 2013 - and fund the government until Feb. 8, Senate Democrats got a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell that he would allow an immigration debate on the Senate floor in the near future.</p>

<p>Durbin said a similar commitment was now needed from Paul Ryan, the Republican speaker of the House of Representatives, where a Dreamer bill would presumably face a much harder path to passage than in the Senate.</p>

<p>The White House on Tuesday rejected the idea that a bipartisan bill sponsored by Durbin and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham could be the core of a solution.</p>

<p>In 1987 she co-founded the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and became its Secretary General until 1993 when she was elevated as commission&#39;s chairperson.</p>

<p>She was also put under house arrest in 2007 by the government of then-military ruler Pervez Musharraf for her participation in the&nbsp;Lawyers&#39; Movement.&nbsp;In 2012 she claimed her life was in danger from the feared Inter-Services Intelligence spy agency.</p>

<p>Asma Jahangir secured a number of victories during her life, from winning freedom for bonded labourers from their &quot;owners&quot; through pioneering litigation, to a landmark court case that allowed women to marry of their own volition.</p>

<p>She received several awards, including a Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2010 and a Sitara-i-Imtiaz. She was also awarded a UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights and an Officier de la L&eacute;gion d&#39;honneur by France as well as received the 2014 Right Livelihood Award and the 2010 Freedom Award.</p>

<p>Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar has sparked an outrage on social media after he said that he was a worried man these days because girls have started consuming alcohol while addressing a youth gathering in Goa.</p>

<p>He then went on to talk about the crackdown on drug peddlers in the state and how it will continue to remove drugs from the state.</p>

<p>He talked about how in August 2017 more than 170 peddlers were arrested on his direction.</p>

<p>Goa is notable for its low priced alcohol drinks due to its low excise duty on alcohol and is one of the main sources of the cash inflow in the state.</p>

Twitterati trolls Manohar Parrikar over his statement on girls drinking alcohol

<p>Women are finally coming out with their sexual harassment incidents without any hesitation, all thanks to the &quot;MeToo&quot; movement. This time its several women in Islam who have spoken up about sexual experiences at Hajj.</p>

<p>Even holy places are not safe for women anymore. Even at Hajj, at&nbsp;the&nbsp;city of&nbsp;Mecca, where people perform their religious Islamic duties.</p>

<p>Women have now come out to talk about the horrid instances while&nbsp;carrying out&nbsp;<i>tawaf&nbsp;</i>around the Kaaba during&nbsp;their pilgrimage to Mecca.</p>

<p>It all started when a woman named Sabica Khan took to Facebook to share her #MeToo moment at Hajj, and found out that she wasn&rsquo;t alone.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Twitter shares surged 22 per cent at the market open on Thursday after it reported its first quarterly profit and better-than-expected revenue, helped by ads that better-targeted users and sales growth outside the United States.</p>

<p>Shares hit $35 in morning trading, their highest level since July 2015. Twitter debuted as a public company in 2013 at $26 a share.</p>

<p>&quot;The revenue number was up year-over-year for the first time in several quarters, which is a good sign,&quot; analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities said, adding that flat growth in monthly users from a quarter earlier was nonetheless a warning sign.</p>

<p>Twitter&#39;s previous inability to turn a profit or turn out consistent revenue growth had confounded investors given the company&#39;s ubiquitous presence in the media and popularity among celebrities, athletes and politicians such as US President Donald Trump</p>

<p>In October Twitter had signaled it could turn a quarterly profit as it slashed expenses. Revenue and adjusted fourth-quarter profit both topped analysts&#39; targets.</p>

<p>Overall revenue rose 2 per cent year-over-year to $731.6 million, the first increase since the fourth quarter of 2016, beating Wall Street&#39;s target of $686.1 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.</p>

<p>US revenue fell 8 per cent from a year earlier, but sales elsewhere rose 17 per cent. Revenue from Japan was a particular strength, rising 34 per cent to $106 million.</p>

<p>Twitter said revenue was helped by better ad targeting that raised clickthrough rates, or the ratio of users who click on a specific ad to the number that view it, and higher video ad sales.</p>

<p>The company also continued a push to grow its non-advertising revenue. It reported $87 million in data licensing and other revenue, up 10 per cent from a year earlier, outpacing advertising revenue which rose 1 per cent to $644 million.</p>

<p>Twitter reported a net profit of $91.1 million, or 12 cents per share, compared to a loss of $167.1 million, or 23 cents per share, a year earlier.</p>

<p>Adjusted profit was 19 cents per share, topping analysts expectations of 14 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.</p>

<p>The company said it expects &quot;to be GAAP profitable for the full year 2018,&quot; referring to generally accepted accounting principles.</p>

<p>Twitter reported 330 million monthly active users for the quarter, a 4 per cent increase from a year earlier but flat from the third quarter.</p>

<p>Analysts on average had expected 332.5 million monthly active users, according to financial data and analytics firm FactSet.</p>

<p>San Francisco-based Twitter said usage was hurt by seasonal weakness and a change that Apple made to its Safari web browser that reduced the tally of users by 2 million. Twitter had warned investors about the factors in October.</p>

Kylie Jenner reveals baby's name, Twitter can't decide to love or hate it

<p>Senior actor Anupam Kher&#39;s Twitter account was hacked. Kher was not aware of the incident until his friends called him and informed him about the same.&nbsp;</p>

<p>&quot;I am in Los Angeles and it is 1 am. Have spoken to Twitter already,&quot; Kher told ANI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kher noted that he received a link from Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta in a direct message on Monday.</p>

<p>Dasgupta&rsquo;s Twitter handle is reported to have been hacked by Turkish Pro-Pak hackers.</p>

<p>&ldquo;Got a DM yesterday from Mr Swapan Dasgupta&rsquo;s account about a link. A first from him. So opened it. Have spoken to Twitter already,&rdquo; Kher added.</p>

<p>Kher&#39;s account was &quot;temporarily restricted&quot; until a short while back and is now back to normal.&nbsp;</p>
