It was the fourth fire in the settlement in six years

Police are investigating a fire that destroyed a Rohingya Muslim settlement in New Delhi last weekend after a Twitter user claimed responsibility for setting the blaze. About 40,000 Rohingya from Myanmar have settled in India in recent years after fleeing violence, persecution and poverty at home. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has taken a tough stance on them since coming to power in 2014, calling them a security threat who should be deported. The fire started early on Sunday and engulfed the shantytown, forcing its 226 residents to flee. No one was hurt but many of the Rohingya lost UN refugee documents. "This is an open-ended investigation and we are looking into the Twitter matter," Chinmoy Biswal, a deputy commissioner of police, told Reuters. "We are trying to find out more." Delhi lawyer Prashant Bhushan on Thursday filed a complaint asking police to investigate the Twitter user who claimed responsibility for torching the houses of the "terrorists". The tweet was later deleted. Rohingya in India live mainly in Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi in the north, Hyderabad in the south, and Rajasthan in the west. They face suspicion and resentment from many Indians at a time of simmering tension between some members of India's majority Hindu community and its Muslim minority. About 700,000 Rohingya have fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh since a Myanmar military crackdown in response to Rohingya militant attacks last August. The government of India is concerned that Rohingya might try to enter illegally from Bangladesh.

The law would allow European prosecutors to force companies to turn over data such as emails, text messages and pictures stored online in another country, within 10 days or as little as six hours in urgent cases.

The European Union executive says the proposed law, which would apply to data stored inside and outside the bloc, is necessary because current legal procedures between countries to obtain such electronic evidence can drag on for months.

Prosecutors and police will have to ask a judge to approve their request for electronic evidence where it concerns more sensitive data, such as the actual content of messages, emails, pictures and videos.

They will also be able to ask companies to ensure electronic evidence is not deleted while they prepare their so-called production order.

Ultimately, the Commission hopes to start talks with the United States on a deal to help law enforcement authorities to seize evidence held on each other's territories. "We always think it's useful to have an EU-U.S. coordinated approach instead of a French-U.S. approach, a Belgian-U.S. approach because that leads to fragmentation," a Commission official said.

The meme has now gone viral; Mumbai Police, like always, didn't bat an eye to add its own bit to the ongoing trend

Mumbai Police's social media game has always been on point, the same is justified by its quirky posts on Twitter. This time around, Twitterati spotted a tweet posted from the official Mumbai Police handle that aptly exhibited Mumbai's Police's take on the raging 'If you don't love me' memes. The 'If you don't love me' memes have been doing the rounds on social media lately and show a person's transformation (mostly a public figure) in a split image. The meme has now gone viral and Mumbai Police, like always, didn't bat an eye to add its own bit to the ongoing trend. Here's what was posted. If you then don't you dont love deserve Me Me at my at my pic.twitter.com/XUaxxTdfuv — Mumbai Police (@MumbaiPolice) April 9, 2018 × Mumbai Police's bang-on tweet was posted earlier in the day today and has garnered 5,667 retweets, 15,270 likes so far along with appreciation from Twitter users. Whoever is making these deserves a raise — Shruti (@you_heardme) April 9, 2018 × Whoever the curator... Hats off to him... ✌️? — Teddy (@dimwittedjoker) April 9, 2018 ×

Shawn Mendes releases new song and Twitter can't get enough of it

Many women cannot express themselves freely on Twitter without fear of violence or abuse, Amnesty International said on Wednesday, even though the #MeToo campaign has helped women to speak out.

Abuses ranged from 'doxing' - releasing personal documents such as a person's address or children's names - to posting nude pictures, the rights group said, as it launched a campaign to get Twitter to step up its response to violations.

"Many women are logging onto Twitter to find death threats, rape threats and racist or homophobic slurs littering their feeds," Azmina Dhrodia, a researcher with Amnesty and author of its #ToxicTwitter report, said in a statement.

"If Twitter is allowing violence and abuse against women to flourish on the platform, the danger is that someone experiencing that will censor or silence themselves as a result," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Twitter was not immediately available to comment. In October, however, the company pledged to toughen its rules on online sexual harassment and impose stronger penalties for misconduct.

The report follows an international study this month that found women politicians on Twitter were judged more harshly than their male peers on appearance and marital status and were three times more likely to receive sexist comments.

Amnesty said it asked Twitter in January for information on how many reports of abuse it gets, the number of reports that were in violation of Twitter's rules, and its response times.

It published a reply from Twitter which said the data could be "misleading" as some users report content that they disagreed with for political reasons in a bid to get others blocked.

Twitter also noted it had made dozens of changes over 16 months to improve safety, and, according to Amnesty, said it "cannot delete hatred and prejudice from society".

"We are not asking them to solve the world's problems. We are asking them to make concrete changes that truly demonstrate that abuse against women is not welcome on Twitter," Dhrodia said.

In a poll last year, Amnesty found a third of women who experienced online abuse stopped giving opinion. It found 43 percent of women in Britain and 22 percent in the United States felt Twitter's response to abuse or harassment was inadequate.

Twitter does have a number of tools to help users, including options to block followers, to change settings to avoid seeing certain words, and to report abuse.

In a written response to Amnesty, Vijaya Gadde, who is Twitter's general counsel, said limiting accounts that violated the service's rules on abuse had improved behaviour.

Gadde did say Twitter continued to see repeat offenders who create new accounts when suspended.

Twitter's hateful conduct policy states that the company does not "tolerate behaviour that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another person's voice".

Apple has reportedly blocked its app store access in Iran from Thursday afternoon.

What appears to be a ban, users are not able to install or uninstall any application, instead, the screen shows a message saying 'the App Store is unavailable in the country region you're in' on their screen.

The app store restriction is IP address based as users have reported using the app store through virtual private network (VPN).

What appears to be a ban, users are not able to install or uninstall any application

A tech support site Bleeping computer also quoted a researcher in their report saying that he was only able to access app store through VPN. Apple has not issued any official statement regarding the restricted access. Apple already does not sell its products in Iran due to US-imposed economic sanctions. People import their iPhone from other countries. Being a US company Apple has restricted its access in other ways in the past. In 2017 all apps made by Iranian developers were removed from the store. Many people on Twitter showed an outrage toward the company for blocking app store access. @AppStore why is Iran blocked from the list of countries able to download or update the applications which are available for all the world? We are also human and we pay for your products. WION Morning News Brief, March 15, 2016

The remarks made by Naresh Agrawal, who recently joined the BJP, against Jaya Bachchan brought out the worst our politics has to offer. But equally refreshing was the united front our women MPs put forward when it came to criticising Agrawal, a former Samajwadi Party leader.

Irrespective of differing political ideologies, the unity among women politicians showed how much they value women's dignity. While women had been fighting a tough battle for their political inclusion to bridge the gender disparities in the nation, some male political leaders are irked by the same.

Agrawal showed his resentment over being denied a chance to enter the Rajya Sabha. Samajwadi Party, which had only one Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh, chose actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan over Agrawal. This displeased him, to such an extent that he quit the party. But within a few hours of joining BJP, he openly projected his envious feeling against Jaya Bachchan at a press conference on Monday, making a misogynist comment that he was denied the Rajya Sabha ticket for somebody who "used to dance in films".

The sexist comment rattled not only the targeted Mrs. Bachchan, but many other women politicians. Although political parties are always ready to demean other party's leaders, this time the dirty politics was beaten by a strong condemnation, in the form of an outcry not just from Agrawal's party but other fellow politicians as well.

BJP leader Smriti Irani, who is herself fighting a defamation case against Sanjay Nirupam for allegedly making a sexist remark about her political entry, was the most vocal of Agrawal's critics. She was amongst the first ones taking a bold stand in favour of Jaya Bachchan. She expressed her emotions on Twitter.

Although political parties are always ready to demean other party's leaders, this time the dirty politics was beaten up by a strong condemnation from women in Jaya Bachchan-Naresh Agrawal controversy.
