The plaintiffs in the case also said that besides al-Assad, his brother Maher al-Assad and two other senior officials have also been included in the warrant.&nbsp;

The organisation which filed a legal complaint hailed the move.&nbsp;

It said that this was the first time a sitting head of state had been named in an arrest warrant in another country for allegations linked to war crimes and crimes against humanity.&nbsp;

As quoted by Reuters, Mazen Darwish, who is the lawyer and founder of the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM), said that these are also the first international arrest warrants that have been issued over the chemical weapons attack in Ghouta.&nbsp;

The rights group SCM filed the case in France. In total, three international warrants were also issued for the arrests of Assad's brother Maher, the chief of the Fourth Division, the Syrian army's elite military unit, and two generals.&nbsp;

The targets of these strikes were a training facility and a safe house near the cities of Abu Kamal and Mayadin, respectively.&nbsp;

The latest attack, Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Patrick Ryder told journalists, took place in the autonomous Kurdistan region in northern Iraq on Thursday. However, “no casualties” were reported and “some minor damage to infrastructure.”&nbsp;

Since October 17, “US and coalition forces have been attacked at least 12 separate times in Iraq (and) four separate times in Syria,” said Ryder, referring to the international coalition against the Islamic State.&nbsp;

This comes as tensions soar over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the region. The attacks have led US troops to be constantly on alert. During a false alarm at Al-Asad air base in Iraq on Thursday, a civilian contractor died after a cardiac arrest.

“Between Oct. 17-18, 21 US personnel received minor injuries due to drone attacks at Al Assad Airbase, Iraq, and Al-Tanf Garrison, Syria,” Ryder said on Wednesday (Oct 25). He added, “All members returned to duty.”

Following the recent attacks, the US, in addition to sending troops – whose number is now in thousands – also deployed warships and fighter aircraft to the region since the conflict erupted on October 7 which includes two aircraft carriers in a bid to deter Iran and Iran-backed groups.&nbsp;

Since the beginning of the war, Washington has been one of the biggest supporters of Israel with multiple high-ranking US officials, including President Joe Biden visiting the country in a show of support.&nbsp;

“What we are seeing is the prospect for more significant escalation against US forces and personnel across the region in the very near term coming from Iranian proxy forces, and ultimately from Iran,” said Ryder.&nbsp;

On Monday (Oct 23), Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iranian-backed militias, claimed responsibility for these attacks.&nbsp;

<h2>Over 20 American personnel sustained injuries&nbsp;</h2>

The US Central Command or CENTCOM told NBC News that at least 20 American personnel sustained minor injuries on October 18 during a one-way drone attack on the al-Tanf military base in southern Syria, adding that one of the drones was shot down.

The reported rocket launches set off alarms in the Golan Heights communities of Neot Golan, Bnei Yehuda and Givat Yoav.

However, the IDF said that both projectiles landed in open areas. Subsequently, the Israeli forces responded with artillery shelling at the source of the fire in Syria.

So far, Israel has not accused the Syrian army of firing the two rockets while there was no immediate comment from Syria.

Two US military bases attacked in eastern Syria: Report

Syria said that Israeli forces launched simultaneous missile attacks on the airport in its capital, Damascus, and the northern city of Aleppo. The attacks damaged the runways putting both of them out of service.

Syrian state television reported on Thursday (Oct 12) that Israeli strikes targeted Syria's two main airports. It said that "Israeli aggression targets Damascus and Aleppo airports". &nbsp;

Syria's pro-government Sham FM radio said that the airport was damaged&nbsp; adding Syrian air defences were launched in response to the attacks.&nbsp;

It said there had been damage but no casualties at the Aleppo airport.&nbsp;

The alleged strikes have repeatedly caused the grounding of flights at the airports in the capital Damascus and the northern city of Aleppo, both of which are controlled by the government of war-torn Syria.&nbsp;

Citing an unidentified military source, the state media said that the "simultaneous" strikes "damaged landing strips in the two airports, putting them out of service".&nbsp;

A few social media accounts claimed that the Iranian foreign minister was set to visit Damascus after Saudi Arabia and Iran's leadership had a call this morning about the situation in Gaza. There's no confirmation.&nbsp;

Israel strikes airports of Damascus and Aleppo in Syria: Report

Turkey said that its forces have “neutralised” 58 Kurdish militants in northern Syria after overnight attacks on militant targets amid a new wave of airstrikes, in retaliation for a suicide bombing attack in Ankara. This also comes days after Turkey called all targets belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as “legitimate targets” for its forces.&nbsp;

The conflict in the region escalated nearly a week after the Kurdish militants claimed responsibility for a bomb attack near the Turkish parliament, which wounded two police officers and killed the two attackers.

Turkey has previously said that the attackers arrived from Syria but the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied this. However, this has not stopped Ankara from launching a barrage of air strikes and attacks in northern Syria and Iraq.&nbsp;

“Targets belonging to PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Syria’s Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, and Peace Spring operation areas were hit strongly all night long,” said the Turkish defence ministry, on Saturday.&nbsp;

The ministry also said that these operations, which have “neutralised” – a term Ankara typically uses to mean killed – 58 militants in the region, are being carried out under self-defence rights.&nbsp;

The announcement comes after the Turkish defence ministry said it had hit 15 Kurdish targets in northern Syria on Friday evening with “with the maximum amount” of ammunition.&nbsp;

<h2>US shoots down Turkish drone</h2>

Notably, Turkey views the People’s Protection Units (YPG) as a terrorist organisation and says that it is indistinguishable from the PKK. “The PKK and the YPG are the same terrorist organisation, they are our legitimate target everywhere,” said the defence ministry official, on Thursday (Oct 5).&nbsp;

While the United States and European Union deem the PKK a terrorist organisation, not the YPG. In fact, the YPG is said to be the spearhead of the main ally of the US-led coalition against the Islamic state, which has soured Washington’s relations with Ankara as well as Paris.&nbsp;

On Thursday, the US also shot down an armed Turkish drone that was operating near its troops in Syria. This is said to be the first time that Washington has brought down an aircraft of its NATO ally Ankara.&nbsp;

Both countries have reportedly held a series of calls since the incident where Turkey said that while non-conflict mechanisms with the parties on the ground would be improved, they will continue to hit militants in Syria and Iraq.
