According to traders, market sentiment turned positive as investor took positive cues from US equities and easing crude oil prices.

The rupee, however, depreciated 15 paise to 69.77 against the US dollar in early trade.&nbsp;

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, were trading 0.50 per cent lower at $74.14 per barrel today.

On Wall Street, the S&amp;P 500 index and the Nasdaq ended at record highs on Tuesday amid a slew of better-than-expected earnings reports.

Elsewhere in Asia, benchmark equity indices in Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul were trading in the red in early trade.

On the traded volume front, 60.41 lakh shares of the company were traded on the BSE and over 5 crore shares on the NSE during the day.

The scrip had fallen 7.62 per cent on Tuesday also. In two days, the company's market valuation has eroded by Rs 1,111.14 crore to Rs 1,861.86 crore on the BSE.

The BSE benchmark Sensex jumped over 200 points and the NSE Nifty breached the 11,600 level in early trade Friday driven by heavy buying in reality, metal and pharma stocks amid unabated foreign fund inflows and positive global cues.

The 30-share index pared some ground and was trading 82.05 points, or 0.21 per cent, up at 38,627.77. It had rallied 412.84 points to 38,545.72 in the previous session.

The broader Nifty also gained 50.85 points, or 0.44 per cent, to 11,620.85 in morning trade.

Top gainers include Vedanta, Yes Bank, SBI, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, HCL Tech, M&amp;M, NTPC, TCS and HUL, rising up to 2.22 per cent.

While, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, Coal India, HDFC, PowerGrid and Axis Bank were among the top laggards, shedding up to 0.82 per cent.

All sectoral indices were trading in the green with BSE telecom, healthcare, metal, tech and power indices surging up to 1.80 per cent.

"The rise in equity market currently looks like a catch-up rally just before the 2019 general elections, especially in the case of private banks which are making new highs," said Hemang Jani, Head - Advisory, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas.

According to experts, global economic growth concerns and US Federal Reserve's dovish view on rates will give a positive impetus to emerging markets like India.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 3,594.51 crore Thursday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 2,080.22 crore, provisional data showed.

The rupee, meanwhile, appreciated 15 paise against its previous close to trading at 69.15 in the early session.

In the Asian region, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.75 per cent, Korea's Kospi was up 0.31 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index soared 2.36 per cent and Japan's Nikkei rallied 0.95 per cent in late morning trade.

The 30-share index started off on a strong footing at 38,218.59 points and touched a high of 38,396.06 before winding up at 38,363.47, recording a significant rise of 268.40, or 0.70 per cent. Intra-day it also hit a low of 38,078.23.

The gauge had climbed over 1,420 points in the previous six sessions.

The 50-share NSE Nifty closed at 11,509.80, higher by 70.20 points, or 0.61 per cent, after hovering between 11,543.85 and 11,451.55.

These are the highest levels for both indices since September 7.

The gains on domestic bourses were led by PSU, oil and gas, infrastructure, realty, banking and power sector stocks as investors indulged in widening their exposure.

Traders said widening of positions by retail investors amid continued buying by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) as expectations that the incumbent government would return to power after the general elections, starting next month, boosted investor confidence.

Broadly, sentiments continued to remain bullish despite profit-booking at current levels by speculators, they added.

Sentiment also got a lift after the GST Council approved a transition plan for the implementation of new tax structure for housing units at its meeting earlier in the day.

Most other Asian markets held steady ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting later this week but were broadly at near six-month highs on expectations the US central bank might strike a dovish tone.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 1,823 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) offloaded equities to the tune of Rs 1,269 crore Monday, provisional data showed.&nbsp;

The marginal 2.44 per cent increase in exports, as well as lower imports of gold and petroleum products in February significantly, narrowed the country's trade deficit to USD 9.6 billion, data released by the commerce ministry Friday showed.

India's merchandise exports rose to USD 26.67 billion in February from USD 26.03 per cent in the year-ago month mainly on account of higher shipments in sectors such as pharmaceutical, engineering and electronics.

On a net basis, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 4,323.49 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers to the tune of Rs 2,130.36 crore, provisional data available with BSE showed.

A firm trend in other Asian markets and overnight gains on Wall Street also boosted trading sentiments here.

Japan's Nikkei was up 0.67 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index gained 1.27 per cent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.74 per cent in their late morning deals.

According to Hemang Jani, Head - Advisory, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, the market seems to be in a positive mood ahead of the 2019 general elections.

"Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have pumped around Rs 30,000 crore this year which is a positive for equities. Investors seem to be factoring another term for the current government," he said.

On a net basis, FIIs bought shares worth a net of Rs 1,482.99 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers to the tune of Rs 817.77 crore, provisional data available with BSE showed.

Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng jumped 0.95 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index rose 1.54 per cent, Kospi gained 0.69 per cent, while Japan's Nikkei rallied 1.03 per cent in early trade.

On Wall Street, Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.02 per cent higher on Thursday.

Sectorally, the BSE realty, metal, telecom and healthcare indices ended the day in the green while IT, auto and power indices settled in the red.

Stocks end flat on profit booking in energy, IT stocks

The BSE benchmark Sensex rose over 100 points Wednesday led by gains in banking stocks amid continued buying by foreign investors.

The 30-share index was trading 134.95 points, or 0.36 per cent, higher at 37,670.61, while the 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 22.10 points, or 0.20 per cent, to 11,323.30.

In the previous session, the BSE gauge settled 481.56 points or 1.30 per cent, higher at 37,535.66. The broader Nifty closed with gains of 133.15 points, or 1.19 per cent, at 11,301.20.

Top gainers in early trade include HCL Tech, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, HUL, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, RIL, SBI and Infosys, rising up to 2.58 per cent. 
While, ONGC, NTPC, Coal India, Vedanta and Bharti Airtel fell up to 2.17 per were trading in the red.

Domestic equities extended their gains for the third session, driven by positive factors like sustained foreign fund inflows, stronger rupee and chances of the incumbent NDA government coming for a second term, experts said.

On a net basis, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 2,477.72 crore on Tuesday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers to the tune of Rs 990.48 crore, provisional data available with BSE showed.

However, investors turned cautious, capping gains on bourses, after retail inflation jumped to a four-month high of 2.57 per cent in February, and industrial growth slipped to 1.7 per cent on account of manufacturing sector slowdown, traders said.

According to the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) expanded by just 1.7 per cent in January, significantly down from 7.5 per cent growth in the year-ago month.

Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.59 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.37 per cent, Kospi shed 0.88 per cent, and Japan's Nikkei cracked 1.35 per cent in early trade.

However, investors turned cautious, capping gains on bourses, after retail inflation jumped to a four-month high of 2.57 per cent in February, and industrial growth slipped to 1.7 per cent on account of manufacturing sector slowdown, traders said. According to the data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) expanded by just 1.7 per cent in January, significantly down from 7.5 per cent growth in the year-ago month. Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 0.59 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index slipped 0.37 per cent, Kospi shed 0.88 per cent, and Japan's Nikkei cracked 1.35 per cent in early trade. After falling over 100 points, the 30-share index was trading 64.70 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 36,660.72. Similarly, the 50-share NSE Nifty fell 19.90 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 11,038.30.

Sensex had climbed 89.32 points or 0.24 per cent to finish at 36,725.42 in the previous session, while the broader NSE Nifty inched up 5.20 points or 0.05 per cent to 11,058.20.

Top losers in the Sensex pack in the early session include Tata Motors, HCL Tech, Vedanta, Infosys, ONGC, Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp, Maruti, Asian Paints and RIL, falling up to 2.30 per cent.

On the other hand, NTPC, M&amp;M, Bajaj Auto, ITC, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, SBI, HUL, TCS and L&amp;T were among the top gainers, rising up to 2.64 per cent.

Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net of Rs 1,137.85 crore on Thursday, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers to the tune of Rs 925.46 crore, provisional data available with BSE showed.

According to traders, heavy DII outflow, weak global cues after the European Central Bank (ECB) has slashed its forecast for economic growth and inflation in the 19-country eurozone, and depreciating domestic currency against the US dollar weighed on investor sentiment here.

The ECB now expects growth of 1.1 per cent this year, down from its earlier forecast for 1.7 per cent. Inflation is also expected to be lower, at 1.2 per cent compared with 1.6 per cent forecast earlier.

The central bank's President Mario Draghi announced the reduction after Thursday's policy meeting, where the bank took several steps to support a weakening economy.

Elsewhere in Asia, Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.48 per cent, Shanghai Composite Index cracked 2.90 per cent higher, Kospi was down 1.04 per cent, and Japan's Nikkei dropped 1.83 per cent in early trade.

On Wall Street, Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.78 per cent lower on Thursday.

The rupee, meanwhile, was depreciated 13 paise against US dollar to 70.13.
