Disney is Marvel's parent company. Marvel produced the last two 'Spider-Man'&nbsp;movies, but won't be involved in the future installments of the superhero franchise because the two companies couldn't agree to profit-sharing terms. 
 
The original deal was struck so that Spider-Man could appear in 'Captain America: Civil War', 'Avengers: Infinity War'&nbsp;and 'Avengers: Endgame', all of which were directed by the Russo Brothers. "We don't know how things are playing out on an inside level," said Anthony."We fought hard to bring Spider-Man into the MCU, but it was always a complicated marriage," he added. 
 
Anthony also noted that they are "grateful" for the time that they had with the character. On being asked about the superhero franchise's future, he said that they can't comment beyond saying "it`s complicated." But this year, when Hollywood is under the microscope on the hot-button issue of diversity, the superhero is half-black and half-Latino.

Miles as Spidey is not new to comic book enthusiasts, but he is new to theater-goers, who earlier this year embraced the long-awaited arrival of the Marvel universe's first black hero, Black Panther, on the silver screen.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," which hits US theaters on December 14, is a free-wheeling animated look at the multiple Spideys in parallel dimensions, including Spider-Ham (yes, a pig) and two women.

This time, an older Parker is a mentor to Miles, who is voiced by 23-year-old Shameik Moore, an Atlanta-born actor and singer with Jamaican roots.

Long before Moore landed the major role, he hoped he would get the chance to play Miles, he told AFP in an interview. He had even written about it in a journal given to him by a friend.

"One of the things I wrote in there very early on was, 'I am Spider-Man. I am Miles Morales,'" he said.

Moore first drew notice in the well-received indie film "Dope" in 2015. He says being chosen to play Morales is as rare as... being bitten by a radioactive spider.

"That spider chose him. However, many thousands of people live in Brooklyn... Sony chose me to play Miles Morales out of the hundreds of thousands of people that auditioned," he recounted.

The film recalls the visual style of the original comic books, with less refined art and speech balloons that appear on screen.

Its release comes one month after the death at age 95 of the character's creator, Marvel legend Stan Lee.

But the man behind a stable of heroes, from The Hulk to the X-Men, is still present -- he is listed as an executive producer and, as is customary for Marvel films, Lee has a cameo appearance -- in animated form.

As a writer and editor, Lee was key to the ascension of Marvel into a comic book titan in the 1960s when, in collaboration with artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he created superheroes who would enthral generations of young readers.

"He felt an obligation to his fans to keep creating," his daughter J C Lee said in a statement to Reuters. "He loved his life and he loved what he did for a living. His family loved him and his fans loved him. She did not mention the circumstances of Lee`s death but the celebrity news website TMZ said an ambulance was called to his Hollywood Hills home early Monday and that he died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

“Stan Lee was as extraordinary as the characters he created," Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Co, said in a statement. "The scale of his imagination was only exceeded by the size of his heart.”

Disney bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009 for $4 billion to expand Disney`s roster of characters, with the most iconic ones having been Lee`s handiwork.

Lee was known for his cameo roles in most Marvel films, pulling a girl away from falling debris in 2002`s "Spider-Man" and serving as an emcee at a strip club in 2016`s "Deadpool." In the 2018 box-office hit "Black Panther," which featured Lee`s leading black superhero, he was a casino patron.

"There will never be another Stan Lee," said Chris Evans, who starred as Captain America in Marvel movies. "For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy."

Americans were familiar with superheroes before Lee, in part thanks to the 1938 launch of Superman by Detective Comics, the company that would become DC Comics, Marvel`s archrival.

Lee was widely credited with adding a new layer of complexity and humanity to superheroes. His characters were not made of stone - even if they appeared to have been chiselled from granite. They had love and money worries and endured tragic flaws or feelings of insecurity.

CHARACTERS WEREN'T JUST SUPER

"I felt it would be fun to learn a little about their private lives, about their personalities and show that they are human as well as super," Lee told NPR News in 2010.

He had help in designing the superheroes but he took full ownership of promoting them.

His creations included web-slinging teenager Spider-Man, the muscle-bound Hulk, mutant outsiders The X-Men, the close-knit Fantastic Four and the playboy-inventor Tony Stark, better known as Iron Man.

Dozens of Marvel Comics movies, with nearly all the major characters Lee created, were produced in the first decades of the 21st century, grossing more than $20 billion at theatres worldwide, according to box office analysts. The website Box Office Mojo said, "Black Panther" had a worldwide gross of $1.34 billion.

Spider-Man is one of the most successfully licensed characters ever and he has soared through the New York skyline like a giant inflatable in the Macy`s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Lee, as a hired hand at Marvel, received a limited payback on the windfall from his characters.

In a 1998 contract, he wrestled a clause for 10 per cent of profits from movies and TV shows with Marvel characters. In 2002, he sued to claim his share, months after "Spider-Man" conquered movie theatres. In a legal settlement three years later, he received a $10 million one-time payment.

Hollywood studios made superheroes the cornerstone of their strategy of producing fewer films and relying on big profits from blockbusters. Some people assumed that, as a result, Lee`s wealth had soared. He disputed that.

"I don`t have $200 million. I don`t have $150 million. I don`t have $100 million or anywhere near that," Lee told Playboy magazine in 2014. Having grown up in the Great Depression, Lee added that he was "happy enough to get a nice paycheck and be treated well."

In 2008, Lee was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the highest government award for creative artists.

Lee was born as Stanley Martin Lieber in New York on Dec. 28, 1922, the son of Jewish immigrants from Romania. At age 17, he became an errand boy at Timely Comics, the company that would evolve into Marvel. He got the job with help from an inside connection, his uncle, according to Lee`s autobiography "Excelsior!"

Lee soon earned writing duties and promotions. He penned Western stories and romances, as well as superhero tales, and often wrote standing on the porch of the Long Island, New York, home he shared with his wife, actress Joan Lee, whom he married in 1947. She died in 2017.

The couple had two children, Joan Celia born in 1950 and Jan Lee who died within three days of her birth in 1953.

In 1961, Lee`s boss saw a rival publisher`s success with caped crusaders and told Lee to dream up a superhero team.

At the time, Lee felt comics were a dead-end career. But his wife urged him to give it one more shot and create the complex characters he wanted to, even if it led to his firing.

The result was the Fantastic Four. There was stretchable Mr Fantastic, his future wife Invisible Woman, her brother the Human Torch and strongman The Thing. They were like a devoted but dysfunctional family.

Lee involved his artists in the process of creating the story and even the characters themselves, in what would come to be known as the "Marvel Method." It sometimes led critics to fault Lee for taking credit for ideas not entirely his own.

Basically, Tony wants him to be the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man while Peter wants to prove his worth and is just looking for a chance. And that one chance arrives in The Vulture! Once he comes face to face with The Vulture, all hell breaks loose, so much so that even Tony leaves him on his own. What happens next forms the rest of the film.&nbsp;

What&rsquo;s Good

Even though I am one of those who grew up on Tobey Maguire&rsquo;s Spider-Man trilogy and loathed Andrew Garfield&rsquo;s The Amazing Spider-Man duology for two reasons, films not being anything like original trilogy and Andrew not being Tobey, but Tom Holland here is beyond comparison. He is goofy, childish, bumbling and yet endearing. He creates the sort of persona of Spider-Man in this film that you just can&rsquo;t compare him with the previous two. You can still be a fan of Tobey&rsquo;s take on the web slinger and love Tom&rsquo;s turn at it. Moreover, Tom is a very able actor, the whole scene of his with Michael Keaton&rsquo;s Adrian Toomes in a car, speaks volume about his talent and the one in pre-climax when he decides to be an &lsquo;adult&rsquo;.

Michael Keaton is one of the major reasons the film turns out to be what it is. He balances it out, if Peter is goofy, Adrian is no nonsense and menacing. When he turns into The Vulture, he is a scene stealer, his voice, demeanor, mannerism, aura works wonders for the film. Like I mentioned above that one scene in a car was the highlight of the film for me. While he does all those dreadful activities, somewhere in your heart, you still feel for him.

Jacob Batalon as Ned, Peter&rsquo;s best friend plays a perfect sidekick and often raises laughter quotient in the film. Marisa Tomei as Aunt May is as hot as she is talented and makers have played to that in the film. No wonder Tony Stark wanted to know if she&rsquo;s wearing something &lsquo;skimpy&rsquo;. Other actors be it Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Zendaya as Michelle and&nbsp;Laura Harrier as Liz give able support.

And what can I say about the truly invincible Iron Man aka Robert Downey Jr. The more I say about his screen presence and acting ability, will be an insult to one of the world&rsquo;s biggest stars. He is charismatic, enigmatic, majestic and charming.&nbsp;

As far as film is concerned, like every other Marvel movie, film plays high on humour and there is not a single dull moment in the film. Spider-Man here is a trainee and is far away from learning the ropes or webs in this case, of being a superhero. This is the most grounded version of Spider-Man, which one can easily relate to for we finally get to see the difficulty Peter faces while he balances his school and trying to be a superhero. In fact if not for a superhero film, this film works well enough and can easily be passed off as a high school comedy.

There are many digs or reference, of course, indirect at (surprisingly) DCEU superheroes like Flash, Batman, Superman and Green Arrow. (Or maybe I read too much between the lines.) Anyway it was a win!

Apart from that there are several other easter eggs and references that&rsquo;ll be fun for the fans.

The music is fine with Vulture&rsquo;s theme score standing out. The special effects are first rate.

And finally, out of all the MCU, DCEU and other franchise blockbusters of Hollywood, this film has the best post-credit scene ever. You have to wait for it&hellip;&nbsp;

What&rsquo;s Not

While the earlier face-offs between Spider-Man and Vulture were worth your money, it is the climax that I &nbsp;found a little underwhelming. Make no mistake the end fight scene&rsquo;s build up is fantastic, it ends way before it should&rsquo;ve, as if makers were in a hurry.&nbsp;Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, &ldquo;The High School Bully&rdquo; in Peter&rsquo;s life was, highly&nbsp;underused.

I know it&rsquo;s a Spider-Man film but still I was expecting a fair screen time of Robert Downey Jr (blame it on the promos) but he had very limited scenes&hellip;may be that&rsquo;s the fanboy in me speaking.

And why oh why, you wouldn&rsquo;t show that money shot moment from the trailer where Iron Man and Spider-Man are shown slinging/flying around the city. That scene was missing from the film.

Apart from the above things, film, most importantly lacked depth, which was the major reason I loved Wonder Woman and Logan. Both of those films have soul, here it&rsquo;s all mind blasting entertainment.&nbsp;

What To Do

The question is, Can Marvel ever go wrong? Well the answer is NO, I don&rsquo;t think so. They know the tips and tricks of how to play to the gallery and successfully churn out an entertaining blockbuster. What&rsquo;s commendable here is they have done it with a superhero who is already a hit with the fans and have been played twice before in last 15 years. Watch the film for its non-stop entertainment and humour, for Tom Holland and Michael Keaton, for MCU finally getting a good villain after Loki and&hellip;well it&rsquo;s MCU, you are gonna watch it, anyway. This is the Spider-Man we were waiting for all these years.
