On Tuesday, Reuters released the genealogies of “America’s political elite” data where it found that President Joe Biden and all of his predecessors still alive have descended from ancestors who enslaved Black people.

Even Barack Obama — the country's first Black president — is the descendant of a slaveowner from his white mother's side of the family.

According to Reuters, the slaveholding ancestors of living US presidents are:

Apart from that, it was further discovered that two Supreme Court justices, 11 governors, and 100 members of Congress are also the direct descendants of slaveholders.

Sitting members of Congress who can link their heritage to slavers include at least 28 per cent of Republicans and 8 per cent of Democrats.

They include Republicans like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democrats like Senators Elizabeth Warren and Tammy Duckworth.

“The preponderance of Republicans reflects the party’s strength in the South, where slavery was concentrated. Although white people enslaved Black people in northern states in early America, by the eve of the Civil War, slavery was almost entirely a southern enterprise,” the Reuters report stated.

While all American presidents have deep ancestral roots in US, Trump's ancestors immigrated to the United States only after slavery was abolished in 1865, the Reuters report said.

Notably, none of Trump’s grandparents were born in the US. His paternal grandparents were born in Kallstadt, a small town in southwestern Germany, and emigrated to the US in the early 1900s. His mother Mary was born in Scotland, reports Business Insider.

Reuters said it collated tens of thousands of pieces of information contained in thousands of pages of documents to trace the lineages of the political elite.

They claimed that they only considered evidence of slaveholding that occurred after the founding of the US Journalists, who researched direct lineal descendants of the present-day elite rather than focusing on family trees that included distant cousins.

A 31-year-old Chinese man was held captive by a gang which&nbsp;used to sell his blood online in Cambodia’s Sihanoukville coastal city.

According to reports, he was kidnapped after he was lured by a fake job advertisement.

The man, surnamed Li, managed to escape earlier this month with the help of a member of the gang which ran an online fraud operation using a fake company, the Chutian Metropolis News&nbsp;reported.

Since August 2021, the gang reportedly took 27 ounces (800 millilitres) of blood from Li each month, leaving him just enough time to replenish his blood supply.

It is being reported that the gang sold his blood online to private buyers.

Li, who previously worked as a security guard in Shenzhen and Beijing, told local media that he was lured by a different gang to southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang region through a job advertisement from a fake company.

He said that when he refused to join their fraud company, the gang abducted him and brought him to the China-Vietnam border.

After crossing the border, Li was taken to Ho Chi Minh City and then eventually to Sihanoukville, where has sold to a gang for $18,500.

Li&nbsp;said that the gang&nbsp;members are of Chinese origin. He said that there are seven others still captive.

In a statement, the Chinese embassy in Cambodia said that it has called upon Cambodian authorities to look into the case, South China Morning Post reported.

A representative of the embassy visited Li in the hospital this week.

Officials have hailed the discovery of a cramped dormitory and storage room saying that it offers “a very rare insight into the daily life of slaves.”

The room was discovered in&nbsp;Civita Giuliana suburban villa, just a few hundred metres from the rest of the ancient city. Pompeii was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption nearly 2,000 years ago.

The room, with just one high window and no wall decorations, contains the remains of three beds made out of wood. The beds were adjustable, with two measuring 1.7 meters (nearly 5 feet, 7 inches) and one just 1.4 meters (4 feet, 7 inches), possibly indicating that a family with a child had lived there.

Nearby, a wooden chest contained metallic objects and textiles that “appear to be part of harnesses for horses,” according to the archaeological park. There also was a wooden steering element for a chariot.

“This is a window into the precarious reality of people who rarely appear in historical sources, written almost exclusively by men belonging to the elite,” said Pompeii’s director general Gabriel Zuchtriegel.

The “unique testimony” into how “the weakest in the ancient society lived ... is certainly one of the most exciting discoveries in my life as an archaeologist,” he said in a press release.

“We can imagine here the servants, the slaves who worked in this area and came to sleep here at night,'” news agency AP quoted Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the director of Pompeii Archeological Park, as saying

“We know that it was definitely a life in precarious conditions,” he said.

Archaeologists also discovered the skeletal remains of two people, believed to have been a wealthy man and his male slave, who were stricken by volcanic ash attempting to escape death.

Italy’s culture minister, Dario Franceschini, said the find was “an important discovery that enriches the knowledge of the daily life of ancient Pompeiians, in particular the level of society still little known.”

Pompeii, which was rediscovered in the 18th century, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Italy and repeatedly uncovers sensational finds.

The woman's deplorable state was revealed in July 2015, when she was discovered in a pool of urine and weighing only 40 kg.

She had sepsis, uncontrolled diabetes, and was missing teeth.&nbsp; 
 
The couple paid her just over $3 a day to cook, clean and care for their three children.
