<p>Scientists say they have for the first time discovered and recorded mysterious “singing” plasma waves around planet Mercury.</p>

<p>This phenomenon was discovered by astronomer Mitsunori Ozaki of Kanazawa University, and a team of other scientists from Japan and France.</p>

<p>While such chorus waves have been recorded on Earth, Jupiter, and Saturn, and observed at&nbsp;Uranus&nbsp;and&nbsp;Neptune, this is the first time that “whistling” sound waves were found emitting from Mercury’s magnetic field.</p>

<p>What makes this discovery interesting is that while other planets have a strong magnetic field, Mercury doesn’t.</p>

<p>Mercury is essentially a big rock with a pretty much non-existent atmosphere. Since it orbits too close to the Sun, the planet is constantly bombarded with solar radiation and wind.</p>

<p>There are also a few things that Mercury does not have: a thick and&nbsp;lush atmosphere, and permanent radiation belts where solar particles become trapped in a planet's magnetic field.</p>

<p>Researchers believe that the findings could shed some light on the magnetic environment around Mercury, and how planetary magnetic fields in general are shaped by the solar wind.</p>

<p>Recently this year, scientists were able to discover that Mercury has auroras of its own kind, even though it has a non-existent magnetic field and atmosphere.</p>

<p>There has been sparse knowledge about Mercury as there have been not a lot of space missions dedicated to studying the planet.</p>

<h2><strong>Sparse knowledge of Mercury&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The fact that it has a magnetic field was discovered only during the 1970s when the Mariner 10 space probe was launched to observe the planet.</p>

<p>But now scientists are seeking to make up for the lack of information, with its Mercury BepiColombo mission that was launched in 2018. It houses an instrument called MIO&nbsp;dedicated to studying the Mercurian magnetosphere.</p>

<p>Though the instrument is not quite&nbsp;in orbit yet due to the influence of the Sun’s gravity, it conducted flybys of Mercury in 2021 and 2022 during which it recorded observations of Mercury's magnetic field.</p>

<p>It was during that time the researchers found clear evidence of whistler-mode waves in the magnetosphere of Mercury.</p>

<p>"The present study paves the way for these challenging future investigations that will reveal how magnetized planet environments are shaped by the solar wind in our Solar System, with potential extrapolation to exoplanets and their interactions with stellar winds."</p>

<p>The research has been published in&nbsp;Nature Astronomy.</p>

<p>A conclusion can easily be drawn from this that music affects our brains, ofcourse in a positive manner. But does our brain respond to sound of singing in a particular way that to, say instrumental music? A new study says yes.</p>

<p>A new group of neurons has been found which responds selectively to the sound of singing.</p>

<p>The team of researchers at the University of Rochester observed effect of 165 different sounds on human brain. The electrocal activity in the brain was mapped.</p>

<p>The team recorded electrical activity in response to 165 different sounds. These sounds ranged from instrumental music to even dogs barking. The result obtained was then processed using an algorithm. Results obtained from fMRI scans of 30 different individuals were then combined.</p>

<p>The analysis of this data revealed that there were some neurons that responded to the sound of music or there were some that responded to the sound speech.</p>

<p>But researchers also found a group of neurons that responded selectively to sound of singing&nbsp;</p>

<p>“These results suggest that representations of music are fractionated into subpopulations selective for different types of music, one of which is specialised for the analysis of song,” the team writes in their research paper.</p>

<p>The research has been published in Current Biology.</p>

<p>Suchetha Satish, a&nbsp;grade 7 student of the Indian High School, enthralled the audience as she sang in different languages.</p>

<p>After a formal inauguration ceremony at the Indian Consulate Auditorium in Dubai on 25th of January as part of Republic Day Celebrations. Suchetha started singing at 4.10 pm and sang almost non-stop until 10.30pm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During this program titled Music Beyond Boundaries, Suchetha sang almost all European languages, 25 Indian languages, many South American languages and Southeast Asian languages.</p>

<p>She had chosen a patriotic song to end the day in true Indian spirit. The audience included general public besides doctors, Indian diplomats, her friends, teachers and well-wishers. Congratulating Suchetha on her achievement, the Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul said, &quot;this is indeed an incredible achievement. You have done the entire Indian community proud and this record is a wonderful gift on the Republic day.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Suchetha already knew to sing in some Indian languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil. She has also been singing English songs in school competitions. But it was only last year that Suchetha started singing in other foreign languages.</p>

<p>Her first song in a foreign language was in Japanese. French, Hungarian, and German were the most difficult ones for her, she had said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Suchetha&#39;s father Dr TC Satish said that Suchetha showed interest in singing from a very young age. &quot;It all started just a few years ago when one of my Japanese friends came home and sang a Japanese song which felt very attractive to my daughter. She learned and recorded the song and send it back to my Japanese friend the next morning. This song was sung in correct tune and accent and after that my friend posted it on Facebook and was very much appreciated by the Japanese people. That&#39;s what started Suchetha&#39;s journey and after that she never looked back. She started singing in different languages after watching Youtube and it became a passion. Sometimes she learns a song in less than two hours,&quot; he said.</p>

<p>Her father added, &quot;Although she likes Armenian and Slovak songs in particular, she is also fond of songs from Arabic and Turkish too&quot;.</p>

<p>After receiving the award from the Consul General of India H.E Shri Vipul, amidst thunderous applause Suchetha dedicated the award to the PM of UAE HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and PM of India Shri Narendra Modi and to Indians all over the world and all the people living in UAE of different nationalities. She also urged the youth to take up music or sport to attain a high rather than tobacco, alcohol and drugs.</p>
