Erstwhile royal of Udaipur, Vishvaraj Singh, has expressed reservation about being a part of the committee, which has been formed to examine matters relating to the controversial movie Padmavati.

Singh, a member of the Mewar royal family, was invited by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chief, Prasoon Joshi, to be a part of the proposed committee to assist it in the process of certifying Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s magnum-opus.

In a letter dated December 22, Singh said he would be `happy` to meet Joshi but also stated, &quot;I have very strong reservations about seeing the film as to my mind it will open a Pandora`s box of new and pointless discussions. Owing to the manner in which the film`s production has progressed from its very inception and seeing to how related matters have developed, I would insist on a formal clarification of the points raised by me before I make a decision regarding being on the Committee.&quot;

Singh further termed the film as an embodiment of `unprofessional and unethical style of functioning.`&quot;I cannot help but observe that all this extra effort is going into presenting a product that has been discredited and one that from the very beginning only exemplifies an unprofessional and unethical style of functioning,&quot; Singh wrote while concluding the letter.

As per reports, Singh had earlier written to the CBFC for clarifications on certain matters of the film.&nbsp;

A section of historians, however, doubt the existence of the queen and say she is a fictional character first portrayed in a 16th-century poem as having committed Jauhar, the medieval practice in which female royals walked into funeral fires to embrace death over being taken captive by an opponent ruler.&nbsp;

CBFC invites Mewar royal family to help it certify 'Padmavati'

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh spoke on the ongoing controversy around Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s magnum opus, <a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/entertainment-kangana-ranaut-explains-why-she-refused-to-sign-shabana-azmis-petition-in-support-of-deepika-padukone-25904" target="_blank">Padmavati</a> stating that the movie shall not be barred from screening in Punjab.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh noted that anything can be shown in the state as long it does not hurt anybody&#39;s religious sentiments.

He demanded the makers of the film to keep the integrity of the historical characters portrayed in the film and project historical events and facts in correct perspective.

Speaking at an event in Mohali, he noted that his government did not believe in media censorship and was totally against it.

&quot;While different historical perspectives can be there, any attempt to completely falsify historical facts cannot be tolerated,&quot; he added.

This, he said, becomes even more necessary in an age&nbsp;when children acquire knowledge through the audio-visual medium rather than by reading alone.

While addressing the media at the event, he encouraged journalists and asked them to discharge their duties fearlessly, free from bias and with utmost sincerity.

He noted that his government would immediately clear the formalities for any media organisation wishing to operate in the state.

&quot;We want the competition to grow so people get the news as they should be getting it,&quot; he said, according to an official release.

The Chief Minister also&nbsp;noted that media must be responsible in sharing information and news in a fair manner.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s &#39;Padmavati&#39; has been mired in major controversy, drenched in allegations of distorting history in its storytelling.

Padmavati was scheduled to hit theatres all across in December which was later postponed to January 2018.

There are now fresh reports of the overseas distributors to have sent a schedule to Ameican/Canadian theatre chains with a release date scheduled for February 2018.&nbsp;

Will not ban 'Padmavati', says Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh

The Bombay high court on&nbsp;Thursday slammed rightist group for asking ban on&nbsp;Sanjay Leela directed Padmavati and sending death threats to&nbsp;artists on Thursday.

Referring to the threats made to them, a bench of Justices S C Dharmadhikari and Bharati Dangre said that it was distressing to know that a person makes a feature film and several people work tirelessly towards it but are not able to release it because of continued threats.

The bench further asked that &ldquo;In which other country do you see threats given to artists and performers? What have we come to?&rdquo;&nbsp;

The court also emphasized that this was censorship of a different kind and it is damaging India&rsquo;s image.

Judges added that &ldquo;In this country, we have come to a situation where people cannot voice their opinions. Every time a person says he or she wants to voice their opinion, somebody or a fringe group says they would not allow it. This does not augur well for the state.&rdquo;&nbsp;

&ldquo;What concerns us is India&rsquo;s image and reputation as a democratic country. We are the largest democracy. We cannot take pride in the happenings of such incidents a day in and day out. We are cutting a very sorry figure,&rdquo; the judges said.

Judge also stressed on the fact that if this is happening to well-financed people and what would happen to the poor?

The strong remarks were made while the judges were hearing a petition filed by family members of Dabholkar and Pansare.&nbsp;

The court also slammed CBI and CID for not arresting the main suspects of the murder of Dabholkar who was killed in 2013 and Pansare who was killed in 2015.

&quot;We cannot allow such serious matters to linger for years. We cannot allow constitutional rights to be taken away. Enough damage has been caused already. Has any senior official from the two agencies bothered to find out why the probe is not getting any head away?&quot; the court asked.

The case has now been posted for next hearing on December 21.

Bombay High Court slams  rightist group seeking ban on Padmavati

Saif Ali Khan&#39;s Kaalakaandi has generated a lot of curiosity ever since the makers have released its first trailer. A dark comedy by Akshat Verma, it has Saif Ali Khan playing a madcap living his life to the fullest after he learns he is diagnosed with stomach cancer.&nbsp;

The film was initially to release in 2017. But the censor board raised objections regarding some of its content and cleared it only now. The film is now scheduled to release on January 12th. But speculations are rife that Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s Padmavati may also release on the same date. Would Saif&#39;s film stand a chance at the Box Office if such a situation arises?&nbsp;

Parents decided to take me out for the latest blockbuster after I had gotten over with my half yearly exams in school. They thought what better way to give the child a break than make her watch a literary classic on the big screen.

A Bengali would rather discuss the shortcomings of the film, give reference to Ray and Ghatak while sipping tea at the local tea stall. He would rather go on a monologue about how Tagore&#39;s Charulata was the best literary adaptation on the big screen. And how Bhansali has always taken copious amount of liberty when he has made films. &quot;Remember Devdas?&quot; he would point out.

But for a Bengali, the outrage would only be limited to that- at the local tea stall, or inside the living room of his home.&nbsp;

For years, Bengalis have had the priorities quite right. They wouldn&#39;t compromise on things that easily and take to streets to protest about a film. This is the community that likes to shut shops every afternoon for an hour-long siesta. This is the community which lets its Chief Minister personally micromanage crowd at the Eden during the KKR&#39;s victory celebrations. So outraging over a piece of art is out of the question.&nbsp;

The only time a Bengali has ever gotten worked up is when the neighbouring state has tried to claim our beloved Roshogolla as their own. No, can&#39;t do mister. Roshogolla is ours. We will take you to court for it and win the case even.&nbsp;

A Bengali would also outrage if his favourite team-Mohun Bagan or East Bengal- does not win the match. But those outbursts are justified. At least we don&#39;t make public death threats, no?

As the saga around Padmavati&#39;s release continues to grow- I, a Bengali, will ask everyone to breathe and take it easy. Take a leaf out of our community. Channelise your anger for the right things- Food, Football, Mamata, GST, Lack Of Jobs etc- but not on cinema. Because you see, art is perceived differently by different people. What you like and think as impactful, may not be liked by the other person. And a mere film on a supposed fictitious Queen will not change the essence of your culture or roots.&nbsp;

So sit back, my dear Rajput brothers. Have a roshogolla and watch the film before you outrage. Be assured, we will not judge you or your entire community by what Bhansali shows on screen.&nbsp;

I even noticed my mother grimacing in pain at one time when Kirron Kher put up a theatrical dance performance explaining Devdas and Paro's love for each other to the entire village. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati features Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. Haryana&#39;s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Amu on Saturday threatened West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of a similar fate like Surpanakha if she continues to support Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s magnum opus &quot;Padmavati&quot;.

The party&#39;s chief media coordinator, Amu told ANI, &quot;Mamata Banerjee should not forget how women like Surpanakha was dealt by Lakshman, who chopped off her nose.&quot;

&quot;Like Rani Padmavati, she (Mamata) is also a woman. If she cannot respect a woman, she will get the answer from the people of Bengal,&quot; added Amu.

Amu made the statement after Banerjee, at an event on Friday, welcomed the film to be released in Bengal.

Hundreds of people from across the country, including filmmakers and workers, have announced a 16-minute blackout on Sunday to stand in solidarity with Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s controversial film &quot;Padmavati&quot;.

The Indian Films and TV Directors&#39; Association (IFTDA), along with19 other bodies of the film and television industry from across the country, will stop shooting for 15 minutes to protect the right to the freedom of expression of those in the creative field.

The associations that are going to participate in the protest include the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), Western India Cinematographers Association, Screen Writers Association, The Film and Television Producers Guild of India Limited, Association of Voice Artistes, Cine Costume &amp; Make-up Artiste and Hair Dressers Association, Cine Singer Association, Movie Stunt Artistes Association.

The protest call &quot;Main Azaad Hoon?&quot; will take place at Film City of Mumbai, and will&nbsp;start&nbsp;at 3:30 pm on November 26.

All the shooting units in Mumbai will put off lights and no shootings will take place from 4:15 pm to 4:30 pm.

Critically acclaimed Indian actress Shabana Azmi on Saturday said that the country is seeing episodes of hyper-nationalism and although the phenomenon was not novel, people need to be alarmed about it.

Shabana Azmi also said that understanding the difference between nationalism and patriotism was the need of the hour.

&quot;Patriotism concerns itself with the lives of the people in this geographical entity and also concerns with improving their lot. So you can continue to be very patriotic and still be critical about certain issues in the society. In no way, does it make you unpatriotic,&quot; Ms Azmi said.

&quot;But what we are seeing now (in the country) is hyper-nationalism. And that is something to be alarmed about. It has always existed. (And) Culture and arts are always attacked first because the country&#39;s image is defined by what they represent,&quot; the actress added.

The actress was addressing a panel discussion on &quot;Nationalism and Arts&quot; at the Times Litfest along with her husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar.

Shabana Azmi also expressed her support to &quot;Padmavati&quot;&nbsp;director Sanjay Leela and actress Deepika Padukone receiving death threats over the film.

She said, &quot;Criticism is fine. Dissent is fine...What is not fine is threats of death, killing people or burning them alive - as has been done with Deepika Padukone. As an actress, as a colleague, as a member of the industry, I don&#39;t think it has ever been as bad as it is today.&quot;

Javed Akhtar also addressed the matter saying &quot;It is not happening for the first time with &#39;Padmavati&#39;. But we must ask ourselves that did we earn the right to stand for &#39;Padmavati&#39;? When &quot;Fire&quot; was removed, when &quot;Kissa Kursi Ka&quot; prints were burnt...Did we stand up for all those films? How many people protested?&quot;

Critically acclaimed Indian actress Shabana Azmi on Saturday said that the country is seeing episodes of hyper-nationalism and although the phenomenon was not novel, people need to be alarmed about it. Shabana Azmi also said that understanding the difference between nationalism and patriotism was the need of the hour. "Patriotism concerns itself with the lives of the people in this geographical entity and also concerns with improving their lot. So you can continue to be very patriotic and still be critical about certain issues in the society. In no way, does it make you unpatriotic," Ms Azmi said. "But what we are seeing now (in the country) is hyper-nationalism. And that is something to be alarmed about. It has always existed. (And) Culture and arts are always attacked first because the country's image is defined by what they represent," the actress added. The actress was addressing a panel discussion on "Nationalism and Arts" at the Times Litfest along with her husband and lyricist Javed Akhtar. Shabana Azmi also expressed her support to "Padmavati" director Sanjay Leela and actress Deepika Padukone receiving death threats over the film. She said, "Criticism is fine. Dissent is fine...What is not fine is threats of death, killing people or burning them alive - as has been done with Deepika Padukone. As an actress, as a colleague, as a member of the industry, I don't think it has ever been as bad as it is today." Javed Akhtar also addressed the matter saying "It is not happening for the first time with 'Padmavati'. But we must ask ourselves that did we earn the right to stand for 'Padmavati'? When "Fire" was removed, when "Kissa Kursi Ka" prints were burnt...Did we stand up for all those films? How many people protested?" "When you are protesting against 'Padmavati', did you also protest against the play that glorified Nathuram Godse? What I am saying is that all of us carry baggage. Recently, Mr Bhansali showed his movie to a few media persons and it has become an issue now. &nbsp;How can he, in a special screening, show the movie to a group of people of his preference without getting the certificate? Even the Rajput communities who are protesting against the movie wanted such special screening but Mr Bhansali never had time for that.

This controversy has given a platform to many others who are trying to politicise the whole thing for their personal agenda. So many people have entered the controversy now. Even those who were not even popular have become popular now. Such people are doing things like threatening Deepika and announcing a bounty of 10cr on Mr Bhansali. These people, particularly, Lokendra Singh Kalvi is looking only for cheap publicity.

Actually, this has become the easiest way to appear on TV. As soon as the people have given the statement, then immediately he will become the hero on media and he will start appearing on news debates. Using such foul language makes them celebrity overnight and even media helps them.

How Mr Bhansali has portrayed Khilji will become clear only after watching the movie. To understand his personality, we have to read about him in various popular books on him written by famous historians.

There is this book, &#39;Khilji Kalin Bharat&#39; written by world-renowned historian Saiyid Athar Abbas Rizvi, which has the documented the history from 1290 to 1320.

This book incorporates translation of Ziauddin Barni, Amir Khusrow, Emasi (or Imasi), Yahya, Ibn Battuta, Farishta and Abdullah.

Historians are unanimous about the fact that Khilji was a cruel ruler. He has killed many to acquire and invade. For Allaudin, beheading and torturing someone was a game. There was a huge section of society which was suffering during his rule. After reading the book it is very clear that Khilji is even more dangerous than ISIS leader Baghdadi and Taliban terrorists.

700 years ago Rani Padmavati did Jauhar. The release has been postponed but still, Karni Sena wants the special screening for themselves. Rajput communities are not trusting Mr Bhansali on the content of the movie.

This row is not going to end anytime sooner. History has a portrayal of Padmavati&#39;s Jauhar and Khilji&#39;s brutality.

On page 29, there is a mention that there was a Hindu deity made of brass metal; it was kept in a temple in Madhya Pradesh that was destroyed and the metal was converted into various things and was sent to Delhi.

If Mr Bhansali has taken all the points from history and uses Padmavati&#39;s name, then he has to take care of many other things written in history books, and after knowing all the things only he must glamourise the character of Khilji.&nbsp;

There are many people who are supporting their argument by saying that it is freedom of expression and speech. Article 19(1) gives freedom of speech but same way article 19(2) says Indian security and integrity must be kept in mind while talking about freedom of speech and expression.

It means freedom of expression is good but one must know his responsibilities and should act with maturity.

Opinion: Alauddin Khilji was brutal; Bhansali should not glamourise him

Amid the raging controversy over film Padmavati, an education officer in Madhya Pradesh&#39;s Dewas district has issued a circular banning a song from the period drama from being played at cultural programmes in schools.

However, the district collector on Thursday ordered for withdrawal of the circular with immediate effect and said a show cause notice was being served to the officer concerned to explain his action.

In the circular issued yesterday, Dewas district education officer (DEO) Rajiv Suryavanshi directed the principals and headmasters of all government and private schools to stop using the film&#39;s song, titled Ghoomar, during cultural programmes in their respective institutions.

&quot;Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena has submitted a request letter in the honour of Maa Padmavati. It was requested that Hindu sentiments should not be offended by playing Ghoomar&nbsp;song in the cultural programmes being organised in schools. So, do not use Ghoomar&nbsp;song in the cultural programmes in schools,&quot; reads the circular.

However, Dewas Collector Asheesh Singh said he has asked the education officer to withdraw the circular with immediate effect.

&quot;I came to know about the circular this morning. Only the state government can issue such circulars. The DEO is not entitled to pass such an order. I have directed the DEO to immediately withdraw this order,&quot; Singh told PTI.

Sir, how do you view the Padmavati controversy?

Creative freedom exists in our country. The entire noise which exists around the film Padmavati is not desirable and lot of people have taken freedom of speech for granted. Whatever has happened is sad and shouldn&rsquo;t have happened. Obviously CBFC is seized of the matter. IB ministry has made it very clear that matter should be left to CBFC. Controversies like these invites people to make comments out of turn. Only way to resolve the issue is through process and dialogue.

Is it one of creative freedom?&nbsp;

That is fair enough. I cannot give you an answer from an extreme point of view. Let&rsquo;s take Padmavati aside for a moment. The debate on artistic freedom has been age-old worldwide. In France, a piece of art became controversial and it was moved. The debate about good cinema and bad cinema continues. Padmavati is a huge film. There are many people who want to see the film but there are some question marks on it too. People who have not seen the film are raising the questions. There are apprehensions and I feel dialogue is the way forward. We can celebrate the life of the queen without hurting the sentiment which also needs to be looked into.

Deepika Padukone and other actors are being threatened?

That&rsquo;s not correct. Deepika is just an artist who portrayed the character. She did what she was asked for. Film is a director&rsquo;s medium. Threats are deplorable and no one subscribes to it. Deepika Padukone is a loved artist. The law of the land applies to everyone. There were lot of controversies around Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that subsequently got resolved. I&rsquo;m sure this too shall be resolved despite all the noise. It is going to find a good closure.

Do you think bans work in the age of the internet?

I would say that let process take its course. Even if CBFC doesn&rsquo;t agree, filmmakers will still have tribunals to look into the issue. People have the liberty to approach other bodies. Artistic disagreements can happen with the CBFC and other bodies. I think it should be resolved peacefully. Music is about peace as it provides reprieve from the grind of daily life. I just hope that at the end, good for everyone shall prevail.

Lot of praise should go to the Prime Minister Modi. We will win Gujarat. The debate only makes the follow-up of the election very interesting.

How do you view Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s campaign. The Centre&#39;s economic policies have become an issue...

If Rahul Gandhi choses to take the side of the tax evaders, he will obviously find support. Lot of people wouldn&rsquo;t like to pay taxes. But lot of people also pay taxes. Honest people pay taxes. They pay taxes for the country as poor needs to be subsidised. The government needs to meet those goals. Rahul has a lineage and people will listen to him. But he is confusing people. All state elections in past have shown that the mandate has been for Modi. Congress, by promising reservations to Patels, is akin to fooling people as our senior leadership has pointed out.

Why couldn&rsquo;t this be solved by the local BJP leadership?

In a party, you cannot have six or seven Narendra Modi. He is the biggest leader and he will be at the centre stage. His move to centre from the state has not weakened the state unit. His vision is being implemented. You cannot have his replacement yet others are doing their job. He will be missed in key areas in the state but it doesn&rsquo;t mean that job is not being done.

Why is the BJP importing leaders like Mukul Roy from other parties?

Lot of people are getting convinced by our ideology. What is wrong in people joining us. People change with times and get attracted to other ideologies. Don&rsquo;t people in corporates move. Don&rsquo;t people want to do better in life. Coming to BJP is a promotion and I welcome them. When you are trying to do better in life then the better place to go is BJP. They are doing the right thing.

What were the hits and misses of the BJP campaign in West Bengal?

TMC and Left for a long period of time have practised different kind of politics. In remote areas, they have done nothing. Votes were purchased. 100 rupees also make a difference in some areas. They have given cycles in the name of government schemes.

But the BJP was not able to turn its support into seats?

BJP has not been traditionally present in West Bengal. It was Left and Congress and then TMC. We are taking steps. Mamata, out of 30 minutes, spends majority of time attacking BJP. We will do very well in 2019. We have the space in West Bengal.

Deepika is just an artist who portrayed the character. She did what she was asked for. Film is a director’s medium. Threats are deplorable and no one subscribes to it. Deepika Padukone is a loved artist. The law of the land applies to everyone. There were lot of controversies around Ae Dil Hai Mushkil that subsequently got resolved. I grew up hearing pride sagas of Maharana Pratap, Prithviraj Chauhan, Rana Sanga, Rani Padmini, Rani Lakshmibai and a lot more heroes. My grandmother had a treasure of such heroic tales. From interesting folklores to epic poems written by famous personalities, those bedtime stories gave me the fascination to know Indian history.

When I learned more about Indian history, one thing was very clear that history is always written from the perspective of the victors, not the losers. Victory tales are easier to carry forward to next generation and there are various ways of doing it, such as writing songs, poems, stories, movies etc.

Cinema has a huge impact on the people. Its content, music, theme, location, actors, play an important role in establishing the relation between cinema and society. Movies and TV serials based on history and mythology have lasting impression for decades and sometimes forever.

For instance, Ramanand Sagar&#39;s Ramayan was a very popular TV show in India during the 90s. The popular actor Arun Govil who played Ram was actually considered as Lord Ram by many believers. Once, he was beaten up by the people when they caught him smoking.

There are several other examples of such cases where people have gotten into such acts by showing their passion for a particular movie or TV serial.

Also, if it is based on fiction or myth then, why the name Padmavati is taken? He could have used some other name Leelawati or Mayawati but why Padmavati?

It is not about Padmavati&#39;s physical existence but Rajput community believes in Rani Padmavati and that belief is connected to their sentiment. Even Sai Baba was politicised, but many who believed in him still worship him. The controversy that said, &quot;Sai Baba was not a God or a Saint, he should not be worshipped&quot; just benefitted fringe groups and factions. Many of us do believe in God and Goddess but there will always be a question on the existence of God/Goddess as well. But believers are going to believe.

Second, if the disclaimer says that movie is based on real historical characters, then Mr Bhansali is proving the point that Rani Padmavati existed.

Biography of Alauddin was documented by a Persian historian Wassaf and it is one the few sources to learn about Khilji dynasty. Along with Wassaf, Amir Khusrau also has written about Alauddin Khilji.

In the 12th century, Khusrau has documented that Alauddin treated the obedient Hindu zamindars kindly and granted more favours to them than they had expected. He also stated that all the insolent Hindus in the realm of Hind had died on the battlefield and the other Hindus had bowed their heads before Alauddin.

Opinion: As a Rajput girl, I believe in Padmavati

Padmavati will not be screened in Gujarat. The chief minister of the state, Vijay Rupani, on Wednesday, stated that the home department of the state had decided to ban the film to avoid breakdown of law and order in the state which is headed for an election.&nbsp; 
 
Gujarat is the second state to ban the film. A few days back, Madhya Pradesh had declared it would not screen the film. 
 
&ldquo;No Padmavati in Gujarat. The government will not allow its release in the state. We don&rsquo;t want any controversy and law and order situation in the state,&rdquo; he said. 
 
&ldquo;There are elections here and there could be a law and order situation. Many sections are hurt and have opposed it too,&rdquo; he added. Voting will be held in Gujarat on December 9 and 14. 
 
Earlier a few BJP MLAs from Gujarat had written the election commissioner to defer the release of the film as it would clash with state elections.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have also expressed their displeasure over the content of the film. Both states have requested that the film should remove objectionable scenes- which may hurt the sentiments of the people- and only then will they allow the film to be screened in their respective states.&nbsp;

The film has been riddled by controversy for a long time and the makers have pushed the release of the film to next year. Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s Padmavati was earlier slated for a December 1 release.&nbsp;

Aditi Rao Hydari on Padmavati: Hope India understands what it's becoming

Sanjay Leela Bhansali&#39;s magnum opus Padmavati was being touted as the big release of 2017. Amid a slew of controversies, the makers decided to defer the film. The postponement may have affected the team of Padmavati, but it has surely worked in favour of other smaller films.&nbsp;

Earlier, Padmavati was scheduled to release on December 1. Smaller films had to pace out their release accordingly, considering the hype and interest around Bhansali&#39;s film. But with release date deferred many films have now moved their release dates. &nbsp; 
 
Kapil Sharma&#39;s Firangi was earlier slated for a November 24th release but is now reportedly being released on December 1. The film is yet to get a CBFC certification which is likely to come by today, <a href="http://www.dnaindia.com/bollywood/report-will-kapil-sharma-s-firangi-take-padmavati-s-release-date-2561350">DNA reported</a>. If the certification comes on time then the film would be releasing this week. But makers have also been considering December 1 as a release date, as more theaters will be available for the film. A trade source told DNA, &ldquo;Firangi will have two weeks&rsquo; run before Fukrey 2 releases. That will boost the film&rsquo;s collections as there&rsquo;s no other film to compete with. The film will get a good breathing space.&rdquo; 
 
Meanwhile Fukrey 2, which was earlier to release on December 15th will now release on December 8th. The film&#39;s producer, Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday. &quot;Going back to our original release date of 8th December.&quot;&nbsp;

Interestingly, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Monsoon Shootout has also preponed its release date to December 8th. according to a source close to the film, &quot;The film&#39;s content is strong and the makers are certain if they get a longer period at the box office, it will help them benefit from it before another major release comes by&rdquo;.

Monsoon Shootout has been directed by Amit Kumar and is a story of a rookie cop and his struggle to make a choice to convict a suspect. The film premiered in 2013 at Cannes and was nominated for the Golden Camera Award. The film also stars Tanishtha Chatterjee and Neeraj Kabi in pivotal roles. The film has been produced by Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap and has Asif Kapadia as the executive producer. 
 
While makers of Padmavati have not confirmed the new release date of the film, rumours have it that the film will be releasing in the first part of 2018. As of now, the big release that is expected to do well at the box office this year is Salman Khan&#39;s Tiger Zinda Hai which releases on December 22.&nbsp;

Kapil Sharma's Firangi was earlier slated for a November 24th release but is now reportedly being released on December 1. The film is yet to get a CBFC certification which is likely to come by today, DNA reported. If the certification comes on time then the film would be releasing this week. But makers have also been considering December 1 as a release date, as more theaters will be available for the film. A trade source told DNA, “Firangi will have two weeks’ run before Fukrey 2 releases. That will boost the film’s collections as there’s no other film to compete with. The film will get a good breathing space.” Meanwhile Fukrey 2, which was earlier to release on December 15th will now release on December 8th. Delay in 'Padmavati' release benefits other smaller films

Members of BJP wrote to the Chief Election Commissioner seeking a ban on the release of the film in Gujarat in the wake of the assembly elections in the state. Expressing concern about distortion of history in the movie, the BJP leaders stated that CBFC should only release the film after the &#39;objectionable&#39; scenes are removed.&nbsp; 
 
In Noida, Uttar Pradesh, members of the Karni Sena had vandalised a cinema hall for screening the trailer of the film earlier this month. The UP Home Minister had even written a letter to the Censor board to consider the sentiments of the people before certifying the film. They feared if the film released it would affect the peace and harmony in the state. Now CM Yogi Adityanath has stated that the film will be not be screened in the state if the desired cuts are not made. &quot;Sentiments of the people of the state should not be hurt,&quot; reiterated Yogi.

While most state CMS have opposed the film&#39;s release, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has extended her support to Padmavati. On Monday, Banerjee took to Twitter to show her support for the film. Calling the controversy &#39;unfortunate&#39;, Banerjee stated that the film industry must come together and fight as one.

Padmavati: Various chief ministers speak for and against release

A man from Gurugram on Tuesday filed an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Amu for his comments on actress Deepika Padukone and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the&nbsp;film &#39;Padmavati&#39;.

Earlier on Monday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had written to the Haryana DGP seeking action against state BJP chief media coordinator Amu.

A man from Gurugram on Tuesday filed an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suraj Pal Amu for his comments on actress Deepika Padukone and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the film 'Padmavati'. Earlier on Monday, the National Commission for Women (NCW) had written to the Haryana DGP seeking action against state BJP chief media coordinator Amu. Amu had allegedly made derogatory remarks against 'Padmavati' filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh and had announced a reward of Rs 10 crores for "beheading" the actress. The NCW requested the DGP to look into the matter immediately and take appropriate action in accordance with the law. It also asked the DGP to apprise the commission of appropriate action taken at the earliest. The movie, starring actors Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, has been facing protests from various groups, including Shri Rajput Karni Sena(SRKS), for allegedly tampering with historical facts.
